It has been suggested that this page be merged with Human. [discuss]
If this merge affects many pages or may potentially be controversial, do not merge the page until a consensus is reached.
Reason: This mob is actually the same mob as the Human, just that the model was changed during Indev before becoming the Human again.
This page describes content that exists only in outdated versions of Minecraft.
This mob existed only in Java Edition Indev: Versions 0.31 20100129 and 0.31 20100130

Steve was a passive humanoid mob, used for testing purposes, available from Java Edition Indev 0.31 20100129 until 0.31 20100131 (for 2 days).

Spawning

In-game steve

Steve in the world, along with Black Steve to the left in red.

Steve spawned randomly in the world.[more information needed]

Behavior

Steve was a passive mob. It had no animation, so it glided and jumped aimlessly around the world in the same pose, and would never pause or stop moving.

Upon death, Steve would not fall over to the ground or flash red or white and appear to die, as most mobs do. It would just disappear shortly thereafter, and drop the items it was designated to drop.

Drops

Upon death, Steve drops:

History

Java Edition Indev
January 29, 2010Steve is shown in a video posted by Notch.[note 1]
At that point, it had been stated that the player avatar would look like Steve in the future, albeit with a miner hat and a different skin.[citation needed]

A rabbit's foot is a brewing item obtained from rabbits.

Obtaining
Mob loot
Each rabbit has a 10% chance to drop a rabbit's foot when killed by the player. This chance can be increased by 3% per level using a sword enchanted with Looting.

A fox sometimes spawns with a rabbit's foot in its mouth, which always drops upon death. Alternatively, the player can drop a food item, which causes the fox to drop the rabbit's foot.

Cat gifts
Cat#Gifts
A tamed cat has a 70% chance of giving the player a gift when the player wakes up from a bed, and the gift has a 16.13% chance to be a rabbit's foot.

Usage
Trading
Journeyman-level cleric villagers buy rabbit's feet for an emerald as part of their trade: java they buy 2, and bedrock they buy 4.

A warped fungus on a stick is an item that can be used to control saddled striders.

Obtaining
|description= The durability of the two warped fungi on sticks is added together, plus an extra 5% durability.
|type= Transportation
}}

Mobs
A zombified piglin that spawns as a strider jockey holds a warped fungus on a stick instead of a golden sword, and has an 8.5% or 25% chance to drop it if killed by a player or tamed wolf, or upon death when angry. chance is increased by 1% or 5% per level of Looting, for a maximum of 11.5% or 40% with Looting III.

Usage
Similar to how a carrot on a stick is used to control pigs, the players can use a warped fungus on a stick to control a strider. To do this, the player simply holds the item in one hand and any nearby striders within view is attracted toward the player. If mounted on a saddled strider, the strider moves in the direction the player is facing while holding the warped fungus on a stick. Right clicking with the item makes the strider go faster, but reduces the item's durability by 1 for every speed boost. If the item durability reaches 0, it turns into a fishing rod.

Due to a strider's ability to walk on lava, this is a beneficial tool for using striders as a safe transport across the Nether's terrain, which is otherwise considered difficult to traverse.

Enchantments
A warped fungus on a stick can receive the following enchantments, but only through an anvil:

{|class="wikitable col-2-center col-3-right"

20100129Steve (mob) Added Steve.
Steve was made by Dock, the artist for Minecraft at the time, along with the similar-looking mob Black Steve.
20100130Steve now also drops string, feather and gunpowder.
20100131Steve has been removed.

Trivia

 • Steve, as well as all the other mobs made by Dock, have no animation because of inability of MD3 loader. They just glide around in the same pose. However, the MD3 model itself contains an animation of it walking.[more information needed]
 • Steve is a member of the japanese privy council
