American Girl WikibooksAmerican Girl is a doll and toy company (originally Pleasant Company, now owned by Mattel). The company launched in 1986 with its first line, the Historical Characters (called BeForever from 2014 - 2019); this line focuses on the lives of fictional girls through books and collections that provide a girl's perspective on noted American historical periods such as the early and mid-20th Century, the 20th century Civil Rights Era, Indigenous people, the 1970s and 1980s, the turn of the millennium, and the Revolutionary War. In 1995, a modern era doll line was launched (currently named Truly Me) to focus on modern times, along with a baby-doll line, Bitty Baby. In 2001, the limited edition Girl of the Year was launched to offer modern characters with more contemporary situations, with a brief expansion into Contemporary Characters. In 2016, WellieWishers, a elementary-age targeted line was released; in 2017, purchaser-designable dolls became available; in 2021, World By Us, a contemporary line with focuses on social and political justice launched. The American Girl Wiki was founded in July 2008 and and focuses on the expansive world of the characters and products. Our goal is to offer a comprehensive, semi-professional, well written knowledge database on all the aspects of the company including characters, stories, items, and releases; we seek to provide knowledge on as many aspects of the company as possible--not just past and present products for purchase, but the characters and stories behind them that make up the backbone of the company.
