TNT JE3 BE2
This page describes an experimental feature in Java Edition.
This feature is not enabled in-game by default and requires the use of the "update_1_20" experimental data pack to be implemented.

A sniffer is a passive animal that digs seeds out of the ground and loves to sniff.

Spawning

Currently, sniffers can be spawned only by using a spawn egg or using commands.

Drops

When killed, sniffers drop:

  • 1–3 experience points, if killed by a player or a tamed wolf.
  • 10% chance of dropping a moss block if killed by a player or tamed wolf. Looting increases the chance by 2% per level, for a maximum of 16% with Looting III.‌[Java Edition only]

Upon successful breeding, 1–7 is dropped.

Behavior

Sniffers wander aimlessly, avoiding hazards and obstacles. They occasionally smell their surroundings and track seeds by pressing their nose to the ground and when they find a seed, they drop to the ground and use their noses to dig into the ground until they get torchflower seeds.

The following blocks are diggable by the sniffer:

Breeding

The player can feed the sniffers using torchflower seeds. When feeding them, the adult sniffers breed to create a snifflet. Parents have a five minute cooldown before they can breed again.

Healing

Sniffers are healed by 2♥ health points each time they are fed a torchflower seed.

Snifflets

A baby sniffer is called a snifflet and they have a bigger head in Bedrock Edition than they do in Java Edition.[1]

Sounds

Java Edition:
Sniffers use the Friendly Creatures sound category for entity-dependent sound events.
