Smooth Quartz is a block added in the 1.13 - The Update Aquatic. It used to have the same texture as regular quartz but in 1.14 - Village and Pillage, it received a new texture. Smooth Quartz is often used in many modern buildings due to its smoother texture.

Regular quartz has a rim round it like smooth quartz. When making structures before 1.14 regular quartz was still used in a lot of modern buildings but after 1.14 people use smooth quartz more often.

Smooth Quartz was added so players had a choice to have quartz or smooth quartz. Until 1.14 the blocks had no difference.

Smooth Quartz can be obtained by smelting a block of nether quartz in a furnace.
