Sea grass is a non-solid plant block that generates in all oceans.

Obtaining

Sea grass can be obtained with shears. If mined with any other tool or the player's fist, it will drop nothing.

Turtles

Turtles will drop 0–2 sea grass when killed. The Looting enchantment will increase the maximum number of possible sea grass drops by 1 per level.

Natural generation

Sea grass generates in either its tall or small form in ocean biomes, near kelp.

Bone meal

Using bone meal underwater will generate sea grass. The bone meal must be used on a non-transparent block under at least 2 blocks of water, with the water directly above the block being non-flowing. If these conditions are met, a one-block tall sea grass will generate on that block, and if available, sea grass will also generate on surrounding blocks.

Usage

The sea grass item can only be placed on non-transparent blocks.

Breeding

Sea grass can be used to breed turtles.

Bone meal

Applying bone meal to a one-block-tall sea grass will turn it into a two-block-tall sea grass.

A heart of the sea is a rare item that can be crafted into a conduit.

Obtaining
The heart of the sea must be found. It cannot be crafted or obtained by trading, making it a non-renewable resource.

A heart of the sea is obtained from a buried treasure. The location is marked with a noticeable red X on a buried treasure map, which is found in ocean ruins and shipwrecks. Feeding raw cod or raw salmon to a dolphin causes the dolphin to swim toward the nearest buried treasure, shipwreck, or ocean ruins.

Trivia
* Before the heart of the sea was added to be, there was an entry found in the buried treasure chest loot table named
nautilus_core
, which was later revealed to be the heart of the sea. Despite the name change, the heart of the sea continues to be referred to as the
nautilus_core
in most game files.

18w07aAdded sea grass.
18w07bSea grass is now used to breed turtles.
The block sea grass occupies now behaves more like water, for example, mobs can no longer spawn within the plant underwater, nor can they replenish their breath by swimming through it.
