For the command, see Commands/scoreboard.
Scoreboard

A screenshot of a scoreboard on the right side of the screen.

The scoreboard system is a complex gameplay mechanic utilized through commands. Mainly intended for mapmakers and server operators, scoreboards are used to track, set, and list the scores of entities in a myriad of different ways.

Objectives

Objectives each have three main parameters: A name, a criterion, and a display name. Objectives track a number of points for entities, and are displayed as integers with a full score range of -2,147,483,648 to 2,147,483,647.

An objective's name is used internally for referencing in commands, target arguments, and the file format. It enforces the 16-character name length limit in commands. In Java Edition, the allowed character set for it includes all lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, underscore, period, minus and plus. In Bedrock Edition, it can contain any character.

An objective's display name is a raw JSON text and is displayed publicly in various situations. It does not have to be unique.

An objective's criterion determines its behavior—primarily what to track. Lists of valid criteria are provided below.

An entity's score in any objective can be changed via commands unless it's read-only. It can be increased by, decreased by, or set to a given amount. Player statistics are stored separately, and as they update, scores in these objectives are updated in parallel.

A score holder is a player's name or an entity's UUID that has scores in an objective. Scores of non-player entities can be changed only by commands, and not by game events. Unlike players, when a non player entity dies, its scores are deleted.

Commands can check entity scores by using target selection with the scores argument (syntaxed @e[scores={name=min..max}]. This argument uses <name> to specify the internal name of the tested-for objective.

For example, inputting /execute if entity @a[scores={deaths=1..}] into a command block triggers a comparator or conditional command block if any player has died at least once, assuming "deaths" is an objective of the "deathCount" criterion.

Criteria

Java Edition

Single criteria

These criteria's names consist of a single alphabetical string.

Criterion name Description Can be modified
dummy Score is only changed by commands, and not by game events such as death. This is useful for event flags, state mappings, currencies,... Yes
trigger Score is only changed by commands, and not by game events such as death. The /trigger command can be used by a player to set or increment/decrement their own score in an objective with this criterion. The /trigger command fails if the objective has not been "enabled" for the player using it, and the objective is disabled for the player after using the /trigger command on it. Note that the /trigger command can be used by ordinary players even if Cheats are off and they are not an Operator. This is useful for player input via /tellraw interfaces. Yes
deathCount Score increments automatically for a player when they die. Yes
playerKillCount Score increments automatically for a player when they kill another player. Yes
totalKillCount Score increments automatically for a player when they kill another player or a mob. Yes
health Ranges from 0 to 20 on a normal player; represents the amount of half-hearts the player has. May appear as 0 for players before their health has changed for the first time. Extra hearts and absorption hearts also count to the health score, meaning that with Attributes/Modifiers or the Health Boost or Absorption status effects, health can far surpass 20. No
xp Matches the total amount of experience the player has collected since their last death (or in other words, their score). No
level Matches the current experience level of the player. No
food Ranges from 0 to 20; represents the amount of hunger points the player has. May appear as 0 for players before their foodLevel has changed for the first time. No
air Ranges from 0 to 300; represents the amount of air the player has left from swimming under water, matches the air nbt tag of the player. No
armor Ranges from 0 to 20; represents the amount of armor points the player has. May appear as 0 for players before their armor has changed for the first time. No
Compound criteria

Compound criteria's names are divided into parts, delimited with periods (.). For example, minecraft.killed_by:minecraft.zombie is a valid compound criterion, under which player scores would increment whenever they're killed by zombie.

All statistics can be used as a compound criterion whose name is its namespaced ID.

In addition, there are some other compound criteria:

Criteria base name Description Number of sub-criteria
teamkill. Sub-criteria include team colors. Player scores increment when a player kills a member of the given colored team.

These criteria follow the complete format teamkill.<team>, where <team> is a color from the list:

16
killedByTeam. Sub-criteria include team colors. Player scores increment when a player has been killed by a member of the given colored team.

These criteria follow the complete format killedByTeam.<team>, where <team> is a color from the list:

16

All objectives based on compound criteria can be modified with commands.

Bedrock Edition

Currently, dummy is the only criterion supported. As such, score can only be changed by commands.

Display slots

Scoreboard Display

An objective with two points to the player is displayed in the "list" slot, while an objective with the display name "Quest Points" with 0 points to the player is displayed in the "sidebar" slot.

Via the /scoreboard objectives setdisplay command (see command reference), players' scores in specific objectives can be displayed in certain 'slots' in-game. Each 'display slot' can show one objective at a time, and multiple 'display slots' may be used for the same or different objectives.

Slot Description
list Displays a yellow number without a heading on the tab menu, where online players are shown.‌[Java Edition only]

Displays a white number without a heading on the Pause Menu, where online players are shown.‌[Bedrock Edition only]

Visible even in singleplayer.

sidebar Shows on the right hand side of the screen. Shows up to 15 entities with the highest score of that objective with a heading labeled with the objective's <DisplayName>. Note that players are shown even if offline, and untracked players are not shown. In addition, fake players with names starting with a # do not show up in the sidebar under any circumstances.
sidebar.team.<color> ‌[Java Edition only] There are 16 team-specific sidebar display slots. These operate the same as the standard sidebar slot, but only display to players who are on teams which use the specified color (for example, "sidebar.team.green" displays to players on "green" teams). Valid colors are: "black", "dark_blue", "dark_green", "dark_aqua", "dark_red", "dark_purple", "gold", "gray", "dark_gray", "blue", "green", "aqua", "red", "light_purple", "yellow", "white".
belowName Shows the <Score> followed by the objective's <DisplayName> below the player's nametag above their head. This is hidden beyond ~10 blocks and when the player is sneaking. Not visible in singleplayer.

Tags

Main article: Commands/tag

Scoreboard tags are a simple list of single-word strings stored directly in the  Tags data tag of an entity. As with objectives, tags are case-sensitive.

Target selectors can be used to check whether an entity has a tag with the "tag" argument; the '!' character can be placed before a name to check for entities that do not have the tag. For example, inputting /execute if entity @a[tag=banana] into a command block provides comparator output if a player is tagged with "banana". Similarly, /execute if entity @a[tag=!banana] provides output for players who are not tagged "banana".

To test for multiple tags, use the data tag  Tags. For example, /execute if entity @a[tag=banana,tag=apple] checks for a player that has both the "apple" and "banana" tags.

Teams

"team" redirects here. For the command, see Commands/team.
Information icon
This feature is exclusive to Java Edition.

Teams consist of a name, a display name, a member name prefix, a member name suffix, a boolean allow friendly fire option, and a list of players who are on the team.

A team's Name is used internally for reference in commands, target arguments, and the file format. It is a single, case-sensitive word.

A team's DisplayName is a JSON text component of one or more case-sensitive word, and is displayed publicly in various situations.

A team's MemberNamePrefix & MemberNameSuffix are inserted before and after the names of players on the team, respectively. Prefixes and suffixes are used in the chat, the active players list, the sidebar, and above team members' heads. These can be edited with respective commands.

The AllowFriendlyFire option controls whether or not members of a team are able to damage each other. This defaults to true, leaving PvP mechanics unchanged—ergo, players can harm their teammates. When set to false, however, players on the same team are prevented from directly damaging each other with melee attacks, bows, and Splash Potions of Harming. Note that players on the same team may still inflict negative status effects on each other with potions, even if <AllowFriendlyFire> is false. Some non-player entities in a team are also affected by this.

It is important to note that each individual team member can only be on one team; teams cannot share entities.

Commands can be used to check whether team members exist by using target selection with the "team" argument. (The '!' character may be placed before a name to check for entities not on a team.) For example, inputting /execute if entity @a[team=red] into a command block provides comparator output if any player exists on the red team. Conversely, /execute if entity @a[team=!red] provides output when there are no players on the red team. /execute if entity @a[team=!] allows output when any player is on at least one team, and /execute if entity @a[team=] allows output when no players are on any teams.

scoreboard objectives add <objective> <criteria> [<displayName>]‌[Java Edition only]
scoreboard objectives add <objective: string> dummy [displayName: string]‌[Bedrock Edition only]
Create a new objective with the given internal objective name, specified criterion, and the optional display name. In Bedrock Edition, "dummy" is the only criterion currently supported. <displayName> defaults to <objective> when unspecified. See above section for more on these arguments.
scoreboard objectives remove <objective>‌[Java Edition only]
scoreboard objectives remove <objective: string>‌[Bedrock Edition only]
Delete all references to the named objective in the scoreboard system. Data is deleted from the objectives list and score holders' scores, and if it was on a display list it is no longer displayed.
scoreboard objectives setdisplay <slot > [<objective ]‌[Java Edition only]
scoreboard objectives setdisplay <list|sidebar> [objective: string] [ascending|descending]‌[Bedrock Edition only]
scoreboard objectives setdisplay belowname [objective: string]‌[Bedrock Edition only]
Display score info for the objective in the given slot. Valid slots are listed and described in Display Slots. In Bedrock Edition, if slot is list or sidebar, there is an additional optional argument ascending|descending to specify the sort order. == Usage ==

When used on a mob, a fence, or a wall, balloons attach to the mob or block, similarly to a lead. Balloons float into the air faster than the speed the player flies up, but remain grounded if tied to a fence. If tied to a mob, the balloon floats away and carries the mob into the air, before both eventually despawn or disappear.

When a balloon is shot by an arrow or a trident, or floats into a solid block, it pops, summons particles, and is destroyed. It drops nothing. A balloon tied to a fence post bursts when a player strikes it in any direction.

The Ankle monitor was a joke foot item.

Usage
Ankle monitors were equipped in the boots slot. In survival mode, when equipped, it could not be taken off. However, players in Creative mode are unaffected.

When equipped, the player would be afflicted with Slowness I.

During the night, being a certain number of blocks from the world spawn, above a certain minimum,how much? would prompt the following message in chat: "CURFEW WARNING! You are violating your house arrest! Get back by [distance] meters!"

If in the Nether or the End, a different set of messages would be cycled through which can be seen in the section below.

Nether and End messages
* CURFEW WARNING! You are violating your house arrest! Uuuh... where are you anyway?
* CURFEW WARNING! Hello, are you there?
* CURFEW WARNING! I'm sure you have important things to do, but you need to go back!
* CURFEW WARNING! We're lonely back home!
* CURFEW WARNING! By "we" I mean I. I'm lonely.
* CURFEW WARNING! Ok enough games... GET BACK RIGHT NOW!
* CURFEW WARNING! LAST WARNING!
* CURFEW WARNING! LASTEST WARNING (really now)
* CURFEW WARNING! ...
* CURFEW WARNING! So... Where are you?
* CURFEW WARNING! Having a good day?
* CURFEW WARNING! Did you see that monster over there?
* CURFEW WARNING! Give it a whack, if you would be so kind.
* CURFEW WARNING! Teheee...
* CURFEW WARNING! Ok, enough of this!
* CURFEW WARNING! Last straw!
* CURFEW WARNING! Now you die.
* CURFEW WARNING! Boom!
* CURFEW WARNING! Hehe, fun right?
* CURFEW WARNING! Ok, you will not hear anything more from me now!
* CURFEW WARNING! You'll be as lonely as I am.
* CURFEW WARNING! How does that feel?
* CURFEW WARNING! Stop. Please. Stupid.
* CURFEW WARNING! I know, I'll wipe my memory. That way, I can start over!
* CURFEW WARNING! *bzzzzttt*

A firework rocket is an item (and entity) used for creating decorative explosions, boosting when flying with elytra, and loading into a crossbow as ammunition.

Obtaining
Fireworks can be obtained by crafting. java, a firework with no explosion effect is available on the Creative inventory and can be crafted as shown below. bedrock, fireworks with the different base colors or no explosion are available in the Creative inventory.

Up to seven firework stars can be used by using firework stars instead of additional gunpowder. All firework stars explode almost simultaneously when the rocket detonates.
type=Miscellaneous
foot=1
}}

Usage
Launching fireworks
To launch a firework rocket, use its item on a block. They can also be launched from dispensers and crossbows. If shot from a Multishot crossbow, then 3 rockets fire with the same effects.

Elytra
Using a firework rocket while flying with elytra propels the player in the direction they are facing. The duration of the speed boost depends on the flight duration of the rocket. If the rocket is equipped with a firework star of any kind, the player takes damage when it explodes.

Crossbow
A firework rocket can be used as ammunition for crossbows, although it deals damage only if it has an explosion effect. A higher flight duration gives the firework rocket a longer range, and more damage is added per firework star. The Piercing enchantment has no effect on firework rockets shot from a crossbow.

java, if a firework rocket shot from a crossbow hits an entity, the rocket instantly explodes, no matter the flight duration. Attempting to do this bedrock, however, results in the firework passing through the entity, so the player must plan where to aim.

Behavior
Firework Star#Effects

Once launched, fireworks fly out vertically, with random horizontal offset up to 5 blocks. bedrock, fireworks can fly in any of the 6 directions a dispenser can point. After some time, the firework explodes into a colorful explosion based on the effects of the firework stars added upon crafting, or no explosion if no firework star was used. If multiple firework stars were added to the rocket upon crafting, they all explode simultaneously.

The explosion of a firework rocket deals damage to mobs and players that are within 5 blocks and not obstructed by solid blocks. The maximum damage of a rocket with one firework star is 7, with the damage decreasing with distance. Each additional firework star on the rocket adds 2 points of damage, for a maximum damage of 19 with 7 stars. Using commands to add additional firework stars results in more damage. The damage dealt is unaffected by any other ingredients used. The explosion does not destroy end crystals nor damage the Ender dragon, but does destroy armor stands.

There is a delay between the detonation and the player hearing the sound, emulating real fireworks, but this sound travels much more slowly than in the real world. java, the explosion of a firework can be seen 64 blocks away, regardless of its height. bedrock, the explosion can be seen from your render distance.

If the explosion exceeds the (unmodded) particle limit of 16,384, the oldest particles are removed before displaying new ones, resulting in severely diminished firework quality / duration. At most a firework should have 3 trail stars, more than that could waste diamonds, firework stars, and other fireworks. Particle counts per star are:

Ball Type !! Plain !! Trail
Small || 98 || ~1300
Large || 387 || 4000+
Star || 122 || ~1600
Creeper || 266 || ~3500
Burst || 72 || ~930

Twinkle effect adds 2 particles to the count.

Like most other entities, they can be moved by water and explosions, and teleported via portals. They also cannot move through solid surfaced blocks, upon hitting one, they either move to a side or explode based on the duration. If a firework explodes under a block, its explosion is flattened.

Duration and direction
Fireworks travel different heights based on the amount of gunpowder added. The number is displayed as a tag on the item's tooltip with the description of "Flight Duration".

The height it rises is between 8 and 20 blocks with 1 gunpowder, 18 to 34 blocks with 2 gunpowder, and 32 to 52 blocks with 3 gunpowder.
(Note: Using command blocks, firework rockets with higher durations go higher and keep accelerating with virtually no terminal velocity. If the duration is long enough, the firework rocket could reach heights of over 1,000,000 blocks and speeds of over 10,000 m/s in a matter of minutes. Such fireworks with significant X and Z motions speed up sideways exponentially and reach outside the world boundary in a matter of seconds.java)

When spawned, <!-- server-side --> fireworks have a vertical speed of .05 and a random small X and Z speed (random value near zero with a standard deviation of .001). Each firework also determines its lifetime in ticks by 10 × (number of gunpowder + 1) + random value from 0 to 5 + random value from 0 to 6, after which it explodes. Each tick, the firework accelerates horizontally by multiplying its X and Z velocities by 1.15, and vertically by adding a constant factor of .04.

Fireworks can be made to travel different directions by being dispensed or launched under flowing water. The firework's direction combines with the flow of the water to go diagonally.

Firework rockets without firework stars shot from a crossbow upon hitting terrain elements will traverse along until stopped by a ledge or into unobstructed terrains again continuing its original flight path. Ledges as tall as one pixel high (e.g. from Dirt Paths to Grass Blocks) will also block the firework. They will still vanish if they hit entities early amidst their flight.

Village Raids
After successfully defending a village from a Raid the villagers may celebrate by setting off firework rockets.

Boosting elytra
Fireworks can be used to boost elytra when in flight. Normally, elytra can glide for a short distance, but with the use of fireworks, the player can fly a long distance, gain speed, and take off from the ground.

Simply using the firework rocket with elytra spread boosts the player in the direction the player faces. It can leave behind a trail sometimes.

Although fireworks with firework stars can be used, the player takes blast damage if they use it in flight.

There are four types of rockets, with three types of flight duration. Higher flight durations mean longer boosts. bedrock, the fireworks obtained from the Creative menu have a flight duration of 1, while java, the fireworks obtained in the Creative menu have a flight duration of 1, 2, or 3.

A spider eye is a poisonous food and brewing item.

Obtaining
Mob loot
Spiders
Spiders and cave spiders have a 1 chance of dropping a spider eye when killed by a player or tamed wolf, but not when killed by environmental damage (such as falling). The maximum amount of spider eyes is increased by 1 per level of Looting. The chance of a spider not dropping any spider eyes can be found using the formula <code>2 / (Looting Level + 3)</code>. For example, Looting III gives a 1 chance of not dropping any spider eyes. All other amounts have an equal chance of occurring.

Witches
Witches have a chance of dropping 0–6 spider eyes upon death. This is increased by 3 per level of Looting, for a maximum of 0-15 spider eyes.

Chest loot
spider-eye

Usage
Food
When eaten, a spider eye restores 2 hunger points and 3.2 saturation points, giving a nourishment value of 1.6. It also applies a Poison effect lasting 5 seconds to the player, causing damage, which reduces hunger/saturation by 6 points.

Leggings may be repaired on an anvil by combining them with their corresponding crafting material (leather, gold ingots, iron ingots, diamonds, or netherite ingots), with each repair material restoring 25% of the leggings' maximum durability, rounded down. Any enchantments are retained. Chainmail leggings may be repaired in this way with iron ingots. Leggings may also be repaired by crafting them together with another pair of leggings of the same material, although enchantments are lost.

Mob loot
If a zombie, piglin, zombie pigman or skeleton is wearing armor, there is an 8.5% chance (9.5% with Looting I, 10.5% with Looting II and 11.5% with Looting III) for the mob to drop leggings upon death. The leggings are usually badly damaged and may be enchanted.

Usage
Leggings can be placed in the 3rd armor slot of a player's inventory for activation.

Defense points
Defense points are each signified by half of a shirt of mail in the armor bar above the health bar. Each defense point reduces any damage dealt to the player that is absorbed by armor by 4%, increasing additively with the number of defense points. Different materials and combinations of armor provide different levels of defense.

The following table shows the number of defense points added by leggings.

Knockback resistance
Netherite leggings provide 10% knockback resistance.

Durability
The following table shows the amount of damage each piece of armor can absorb before being destroyed.

Any "hit" from a damage source that can be blocked by armor removes one point of durability from each piece of armor worn for every 4 of incoming damage (rounded down, but never below 1). Damage taken but not protected by that armor (such as falling or drowning) does not damage the armor, even if it is enchanted to protect against that type of damage. The following chart displays how many hits leggings can endure.

Netherite armor is not damaged by lava or fire when worn.

Smelting usage
Piglins
Piglin are attracted to golden leggings and pick them up, examining them for 6 to 8 seconds. Piglins can wear other leggings but are not attracted to them. They prefer stronger leggings over weaker leggings, with one exception: They always prefer golden leggings over all other leggings, throwing out stronger leggings in favor of gold leggings. Enchanted leggings are preferred over unenchanted leggings.

Unit repair
Helmets can be repaired in an anvil by adding units of the armor material's repair material, with each repair material restoring 25% of the helmet's maximum durability, rounded down.

Mob loot
If a zombie, husk, stray or skeleton is wearing armor, there is a 8.5% chance (9.5% with Looting I, 10.5% with Looting II and 11.5% with Looting III) for the mob to drop a helmet upon death. The dropped helmet is usually badly damaged, and may be enchanted with enchantment levels 5-19.

bedrock, vindicators and pillagers spawned in raids have a 8.3525% chance (10.28% on hard) to drop iron helmets. The dropped helmets are usually badly damaged, and have a 50% chance of being enchanted with a random enchantment.

Natural generation
Two armor stands are found in each taiga village outdoor armory, one of them equipped with an iron helmet.

Chest loot
BE, a sealed room in woodland mansions can appear that has a chest sometimes containing an Efficiency I leather cap.

Trading
java, novice-level armorer villagers have a 40% chance to sell an iron helmet for 4 emeralds. Journeyman-level armorers have a 40% chance to sell a chainmail helmet for 1 emerald. Master-level armorers always sell an enchanted diamond helmet for 11-27 emeralds. Apprentice-level leatherworker villagers have a 2 chance to sell a leather cap for 5 emeralds. Master-level leatherworker villagers offer the same trade.

Armorer villagers may give the players with the Hero of the Village effect a chainmail helmet.

bedrock, novice-level armorer villagers have a 25% chance to sell iron helmet for 5 emeralds, 1 chance to sell chainmail helmet at journeyman-level for an emerald, and 50% chance to sell enchanted diamond helmet for 8 emeralds at master-level. Apprentice-level leatherworker villagers have a 50% chance to sell leather cap for 5 emeralds as part of their trades, and 50% chance to sell an enchanted leather cap for 5 emeralds at the master level.

Usage
Helmets can be placed in the top armor slot of a player's inventory for activation.

Defense points
Defense points are each signified by half of a shirt of mail in the armor bar above the health bar. Each defense point reduces any damage dealt to the player that is absorbed by armor by 4%, increasing additively with the number of defense points. Different materials and combinations of armor provide different levels of defense.

The following table shows the number of defense points added by helmets.

Knockback resistance
A netherite helmet provides 10% knockback resistance.

Durability
The following table shows the amount of damage each piece of armor can absorb before being destroyed.

Any "hit" from a damage source that can be blocked by armor removes one point of durability from each piece of armor worn for every 4 of incoming damage (rounded down, but never below 1). Damage taken that armor doesn't protect (such as falling or drowning) does not damage the armor, even if it is enchanted to protect against that type of damage. The following chart displays how many hits helmets can endure.

Netherite armor is not damaged by lava or fire when worn.

Repair
Helmets may be repaired by using them along with some of their crafting material (leather, gold ingots, iron ingots, diamonds or netherite) in an anvil. Chainmail helmets may be repaired in this way with iron ingots. They may also be repaired by crafting them together with another helmet of like material.

Enchantments
A helmet can receive the following enchantments. Note that while iron and chainmail have the same durability, chainmail has a higher enchantability than iron or diamond.

Turtle shell effect
Equipping a Turtle Shell turtle shell provides the Water Breathing status effect, allowing the player to remain underwater for an additional 10 seconds. The time that this effect lasts does not begin to count down until the player dives underwater, then the 10 seconds are counted down. The effect immediately recharges after exposure to air.

Brewing ingredient
A turtle shell can also be used as a potion brewing ingredient.

Smelting usage
Piglins
Piglin are attracted to golden helmets and pick them up, examining them for 6 to 8 seconds. Piglins can wear other helmets but are not attracted to them. They prefer stronger helmets over weaker helmets, with one exception: They always prefer golden helmets, throwing out stronger helmets in favor of gold helmets. Enchanted helmets are preferred over unenchanted helmets.

*Unlike the other helmets, the netherite helmet covers most of the player's face, due to a nose guard and cheek plates.
*The turtle shell is the only helmet that is not part of a complete set.
* In Bedrock Edition, there exists a bug that makes it possible to obtain a Leather Cap enchanted with Efficiency I from Woodland Mansion chests with a chance of 1.45%. The enchantment has no effect on the cap, however.

}}

The Footprint was a joke item from Java Edition 20w14∞, found only in the missing dimension.

Appearance
This item is semi-transparent with a grey colour scheme.

Obtaining
Dimension
Footprints were obtained only from a chest in the missing dimension. Only existing in 2020 April fools snapshot 20w14∞, it cannot exist in any non-April Fool's joke versions and April Fool's joke versions before or after 20w14∞. There is a maximum of 2 footprints that can be obtained legitimately in any given world.

Cheats/Creative Mode
Despite these footprints not being available in the creative inventory, it is still possible to acquire them via the command or duplicating them by holding down middle-click whilst in creative mode.

Usage
As of snapshot 20w14∞, this item cannot be placed or used in any way other than a trophy. This item can be inserted and/or rotated inside of an item frame, and it has a stack limit of 64.

A bundle is an item that can store up to a stack's worth of mixed item types within itself in a single inventory slot. Items that stack to 16 occupy more space within the bundle, and items that do not stack occupy the entire bundle without allowing space for any other items.

2=Item stack sizes (top row) and the number of bundle slots they take up (middle row). Sticks stack to 64, so they take up one bundle slot; ender pearls stack to 16, so they take up four; and swords do not stack, so they take up the whole bundle. So, for instance, a bundle may have 32 sticks and 8 ender pearls inside (bottom), which take up a total of (32×1)+(8×4)=64 bundle slots.
}}
Bundles are used to store different item types in the same inventory slot. This does not, however, increase the total capacity of the slot: each bundle has 64 "bundle slots" and each item placed in the bundle takes up these slots similar to how they take up space in a normal inventory slot: items that stack to 64 take up 1 bundle slot, items that stack to 16 (for example, eggs) take up 4, and items that do not stack (such as tools/weapons/armor) take up the whole bundle, all 64 slots.

Although bundles themselves cannot be stacked, a bundle can be placed inside another (nested): the inner bundle itself uses 4 slots plus the number of slots already occupied by the items in that bundle.

To place items inside a bundle, either (1) pick up the bundle in the inventory and right-click on the item(s) to be placed inside or (2) pick up the item(s) and right-click on the bundle. When placing bundles inside another bundle, the interface uses the first method: picking up Bundle A and right clicking on Bundle B attempts to store Bundle B inside A.

Bundles can be used inside the inventory to take out the last item put in. In this way, items are accessible LIFO (last in, first out). When used outside the inventory, it dumps all the items out into the world.

Hovering over the bundle shows its contained items in its inventory slots. The number of bundle slots used is displayed as <fullness>/64 in the tooltip. If the bundle is full, then the empty slots are greyed out with an <span class="invslot">Bundle full</span>.

Shulker boxes cannot be placed inside of bundles.

A beetroot is a food and dye ingredient.

Obtaining
Farming
Beetroots are obtained from harvesting a fully grown crop block, which drops 1 beetroot and 1-4 seeds (2 seeds per plant harvested on average). Seed yield can be increased using a tool enchanted with Fortune, with Fortune III harvesting an average of 5 seeds per plant.

These crops can be found growing in villages or can be grown from planted beetroot seeds.<!-- Do not add locations for finding seeds. Where to find seeds is described in the article about the seeds. -->

Usage
Food
A beetroot can be eaten to restore 1 hunger and 1.2 hunger saturation. Six beetroots can be crafted into beetroot soup, which restores six times the hunger and saturation of a single beetroot.

Crafting ingredient
crafting usage

Breeding
Beetroots can be used to breed pigs. Pigs also follow a player who is holding beetroot.

Villagers can pick up beetroot items to become willing, allowing them to breed. Villagers need 12 beetroots before they can breed.

Composting
Placing beetroot into a composter has a 65% chance of raising the compost level by 1.

Trading
Novice-level Farmer villagers have a 25%bedrock or 40%java chance to buy 15 beetroots for an emerald.

Sugar cane is a block found as 1–4-block-tall. It plants near water in the Overworld. As an item, it is an important crafting ingredient.

Obtaining
Sugar cane can be mined instantly with anything.

When the spot a sugar cane block is placed in becomes unsuitable, such as when the supporting block is removed, the sugar cane block uproots and drops as an item. be, sugar cane uproots immediately after all adjacent water is removed. je, sugar cane uproots on the next block update or random tick.

A sugar cane block drops itself as an item if a piston tries to push it (trying to pull it does nothing) or moves a block into its space.

Natural generation
Sugar cane can generate naturally near water and ice, as two (11 chance), three (5 chance), or four (2 chance) blocks tall. Rare taller sugar canes can be found if the world generator places two smaller canes on top of each other. It generates in approximately 0.8 sugar cane per chunk seeing as how they only generate near bodies of water.

Sugar canes attempt to generate 10 times in any Overworld biome, which requires water. An extra 10 attempts are made in swamp biomes, and 50 in desert biomes, which makes sugar cane twice as frequent in swamps and six times as frequent in desert biomes, making the banks of rivers that cut through deserts lined with sugar canes. Sugar canes do not grow faster in swamps or deserts they only spawn a increased amount.

Sugar cane cannot generate in caves je.

Trading
Wandering traders can sell sugar cane for an emerald.

Usage
Due to its water-displacing properties, sugar cane can interestingly be used to create underwater paths, allowing players to move at normal speed and breathe if it is two blocks in height.java

Sugar cane takes on a different shade of green depending on the biome in which it is placed.

Crafting ingredient
crafting usage

Farming
Tutorials/Sugar cane farming

Sugar cane can generate naturally up to any number of blocks tall, but grow only to a height of three blocks, adding a block of height when the top sugar cane block has received 16 random block ticks (i.e. on average every 18 minutes on Java Edition<!-- Average 68.27 seconds/tick * 16 ticks/growth = 18.2 minutes --> or 54 minutes on Bedrock Edition, but the actual rate can vary widely).
Sugar cane must be planted on a grass block, dirt, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, podzol, mycelium, sand, red sand, suspicious sand, moss block, or mud that is directly adjacent to water, waterlogged block, or frosted ice (not merely above or diagonal to water), or on top of another sugar cane block. The adjacent water block can be covered with another block, whether opaque or transparent, and sugar cane can still be placed and grow next to it. Sugar cane grows regardless of light level, even in complete darkness.

bedrock, bone meal can be used to instantly grow sugar cane to three blocks. Only one bone meal is consumed. java, bone meal cannot be used on sugar cane.

On average, it takes 18 minutes for a single block of sugar cane to grow 3 blocks tall.

Composting
Placing sugar cane into a composter has a 50% chance of raising the compost level by 1.

Trivia
*When a sugar cane is broken at the second level, the time resets (for example, if a two-block high sugar cane is broken, but is just about to grow to the third stage, it would reset that time).
*By placing more sugar canes on top of a sugar cane plant, it is possible to create tall sugar canes (up to y=319, the maximum height for building), although they do not naturally grow this high.
*Before sugar cane received an official name, they were sometimes referred to as bamboo, a block added 9 years later. Other names were "reeds" and "papyrus".

Fishing
Enchanted books can be obtained as a "treasure" item from fishing with a fishing rod as part of the "treasure" category. The book has the equivalent of a level 30 enchantment from an enchantment table, but treasure enchantments are available and the chance of multiple enchantments is not reduced.

Trading
bedrock, librarian villagers have a 50% chance to sell enchanted books as part of their trades at novice, apprentice, and journeyman-level, and have 1 chance to sell enchanted books at expert-level as part of their trades, meaning each librarian villager can sell up to four books. The price ranges between 5-64 emeralds per book. Based on the level of the enchantment and whether it is classified as a "treasure enchantment" (meaning they are not obtainable by enchanting, e.g. Mending), which doubles the cost, or not a price is determined.

java, librarian villagers have a 2 chance to sell an enchanted book as part of their trades at the novice, apprentice, and journeyman level, and have a 50% chance to sell an enchanted book at the expert level, meaning each librarian can sell up to four books. They may contain any available enchantment (except Soul Speed and Swift Sneak) at any available level. See trading notes for more information on enchantments and prices.

Drops
Vindicators and pillagers that spawn from raids have a small chance to drop an enchanted book with a level 30 enchantment, which may be a treasure enchantment.bedrock

Enchanting
Players can create an enchanted book by enchanting a book on an enchantment table. Books have a decreased chance of getting multiple enchantments (specifically, if multiple enchantments would be added, then one is removed at random), and have a lower "enchantability level" than most other items. Treasure enchantments such as Mending cannot be obtained from an enchantment table.

Bartering
Players can barter with piglins by using or throwing gold ingots, and doing so has a 5 chance for piglins to give the player an enchanted book with any level of Soul Speed. Soul Speed enchanted books are only obtainable through bartering, chest loot inside a bastion remnant, and fishing. They cannot be obtained through enchanting or trading.

Usage
Anvil mechanics

In Survival, enchanted books are the only method to obtain certain enchantments on certain tools, such as Unbreaking on shields. Enchanted books have a shine effect on their sprite.

To use an enchanted book, the player must place an item in the first slot in an anvil, and a book in the next. In order to complete the enchantment, the player must have the required amount of experience. Note that using an enchanted book gets significant discounts at the anvil. Enchanted books themselves can be combined to create a single book with increased or multiple enchantments, similar to combining tools or weapons.

When combining items, the compatible enchantments from the book in the second slot are transferred to the item from the first slot, keeping the highest level of any type. If two enchantments have the same level and a higher level is available, they combine into the next level. If a book is applied to an item that can't take all of its spells, the appropriate spells are transferred, while the unusable ones are lost. Enchanted books are single-use.

Enchanted books do not exhibit their enchantment. For example, a book with Sharpness IV as an enchantment does no more damage than an un-enchanted book, or any non-weapon item, would when used as a weapon. An exception is the Fire Aspect book which can ignite TNT and light campfires and the Mending book if the block mined can be broken by fist.bedrock

Enchantments

Enchanted books can enchant the usual items that can be enchanted at an enchanting table, but unlike an enchanting table, they are able to boost enchantments such as Sharpness or Thorns to their maximum power, and may apply the following enchantments to items (the table displays only netherite tools and armor, but any type can be enchanted):
<!-- do not change the items listed in this table. It is supposed to show the items that can receive these enchantments from an enchanted book, but are NOT possible through an enchanting table. -->

Creative mode
The player can enchant any item with any enchantment in Creative mode, allowing any applied effects to exhibit themselves.java For example, a stick can be enchanted with Silk Touch to allow the player to successfully dig grass blocks. The enchanted item can still be used in Survival mode without any loss of enchantments.

Enchantments that are normally incompatible are still incompatible; for example, Piercing and Multishot cannot be both applied to the same item, even in Creative mode.

If a block is enchanted, it loses the enchantment upon being placed in the world.

Disenchanting
Disenchanting an enchanted book at a grindstone yields a normal book and some experience depending on the quality of the book.

Chiseled bookshelf
the chiseled bookshelf while having an enchanted book in the main hand will put the book inside the chiseled bookshelf.
