— Tom Stone[1] |
Scaffolding is a block used when building structures to help the player reach higher places, or safely go downwards without taking fall damage.
Obtaining
Scaffolding is broken instantly, and no tools are required.
Crafting
Ingredients | Crafting recipe |
Bamboo + String |
Usage
A stack of scaffolding created by only placing another scaffolding block on the side face of the bottom scaffolding block.
When the bottom block of scaffolding is destroyed, all scaffolding blocks above it will break, similar to chorus plants; this makes it easier for players to make temporary structures.
The placement of scaffolding is different from any other blocks in the game. When pressing use on the side of a scaffolding, the scaffolding will be added on top of the highest scaffolding in that location, allowing the player to build the scaffolding structure higher on the ground. Pressing use on the top face of the scaffolding will add the scaffolding to the side, depending on the direction the player is facing. While sneaking, pressing use on the top face of the scaffolding will place the new scaffolding on top of the targetted one, but if there's already a scaffolding there, then it will try to place it under the targetted scaffolding. Pressing use on the side while sneaking will place it on the side like placing other blocks.
Scaffolding has no collision detection. The player can climb up or down by jumping or sneaking respectively. A scaffolding block can be moved by pistons, allowing them to be broken easily.
A diagram showing that scaffolding can only be placed 4 blocks away from the base of support.[PlayStation 4 Edition only]
Scaffolding can only be placed 6 blocks[Java and Bedrock editions only] or 4 blocks[PlayStation 4 Edition only] out from its base of support; any further scaffolding placed will fall down to the ground.
Scaffolding cannot be placed inside lava; if scaffolding is placed next to lava or fire, the scaffolding will also be destroyed. If it falls into lava or fire, it will also be destroyed immediately when it touches them.[Bedrock and PlayStation 4 editions only]
Scaffolding can be placed inside lava but burns after some time.[Java Edition only]
When holding scaffolding, the hitbox of scaffolding in the world will be a full block. Otherwise, you can interact with other blocks through the scaffolding.
Fuel
Scaffolding can be used as a fuel in furnaces, smelting 0.25 items per block in the Java Edition and PlayStation 4 Edition, and 6 items per block in the Bedrock Edition.

Raw iron is a raw metal resource obtained from mining iron ore.
Obtaining
Mining
Iron ore and deepslate iron ore mined with a stone pickaxe or higher drops 1 unit of raw iron. If the pickaxe is enchanted with Fortune, it can drop an extra unit per level of Fortune, allowing for a maximum of 4 with Fortune III. If the ore is mined using a pickaxe enchanted with Silk Touch, it drops the ore block instead.

Chest loot
shears
Usage
Shearing
Shears lose 1 durability when used to shear something.
Shears can be on a sheep to remove its coat and drop 1–3 wool of the corresponding color. The same sheep can be sheared again after it eats from a grass block to regenerate its coat.
Shearing a mooshroom drops 5 mushrooms of the corresponding color and irreversibly turns it into a normal cow.
Shearing a snow golem irreversibly removes its pumpkin, dropping it and revealing its face.
Shearing either a beehive or bee nest that is full of honey makes it drop 3 honeycombs and resets it to honey level 0. The same beehive or bee nest can be sheared again if it is able to reach full honey again. If sheared by hand without a campfire below the hive or nest all bees within will exit and all nearby bees will attack the offending player.
Dispensers can use shears in any of the above listed ways, interacting with any valid block or entity in front of the dispenser's face. This decreases the shears' durability. A dispenser shearing a beehive or bee nest will not anger bees or cause them to leave even if there is not a campfire below it.
Shearing a pumpkin turns it into a carved pumpkin, dropping 4 pumpkin seeds java or 1-3 pumpkin seeds bedrock.
java, shearing the tip of cave vines, kelp, weeping vines, or twisting vines sets its age value to 25 and stops further growth.
Breaking blocks
Shears use 1 durability when is used to break any block, even if it breaks instantly by hand.
Shears can be used to harvest cobwebs, leaves, grass, tall grass, seagrass, tall seagrass, ferns, large ferns, dead bushes, nether sprouts, vines, glow lichen or hanging roots and obtain them in item form. They can also be used to break tripwire connected to a tripwire hook without activating it.
When shears are used to break weeping vines or twisting vines they are guaranteed to drop in item form instead of the usual 33% chance. This only applies to vines directly broken by shears and not vines that are broken due to the destruction of their supporting vines.
The following table shows information about blocks that can be broken with shears. Colors indicate what gets dropped when the block is broken:
*White: The original block.
*Blue: The block's normal drop (i.e. string, sticks, seeds, saplings, apples).
*Red: Nothing.

A beetroot is a food and dye ingredient.
Obtaining
Farming
Beetroots are obtained from harvesting a fully grown crop block, which drops 1 beetroot and 1-4 seeds (2 seeds per plant harvested on average). Seed yield can be increased using a tool enchanted with Fortune, with Fortune III harvesting an average of 5 seeds per plant.
These crops can be found growing in villages or can be grown from planted beetroot seeds.<!-- Do not add locations for finding seeds. Where to find seeds is described in the article about the seeds. -->
Usage
Food
A beetroot can be eaten to restore 1 hunger and 1.2 hunger saturation. Six beetroots can be crafted into beetroot soup, which restores six times the hunger and saturation of a single beetroot.
Crafting ingredient
crafting usage
Breeding
Beetroots can be used to breed pigs. Pigs also follow a player who is holding beetroot.
Villagers can pick up beetroot items to become willing, allowing them to breed. Villagers need 12 beetroots before they can breed.
Composting
Placing beetroot into a composter has a 65% chance of raising the compost level by 1.
Trading
Novice-level Farmer villagers have a 25%bedrock or 40%java chance to buy 15 beetroots for an emerald.

Nether sprouts are a non-solid fungi block that generate in warped forests.
Obtaining
Natural generation
Nether sprouts generate in warped forest biomes.
Breaking
Nether sprouts can be mined instantly with any item. The block also breaks if the block below is removed, or if water flows into its space. The block only drops if broken with shears.
Post-generation
Applying bone meal to warped nylium creates nether sprouts on that block and surrounding nylium, along with both types of roots and fungi.
Usage
Nether sprouts can be planted on the same blocks that fungi and roots can be placed on: nylium, soul soil, grass, podzol, mycelium, moss, dirt, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, and farmland. However, they cannot be planted in flower pots.
Composting
Placing nether sprouts into a composter has a 50% chance of raising the compost level by 1.

Beetroot seeds are items that can be used to plant beetroot crops.
Beetroot crops are planted in farmland and used to grow beetroot and beetroot seeds.
Obtaining
Natural generation
Village farms have a chance of growing beetroot. The exact chance depends on the village:
Village style !! Chance
desert-village Desert || 20%
plains-village Plains || 5%
Breaking
Harvesting fully-grown beetroot yields from 1 to 4 seeds per crop harvested (2 seeds per crop harvested on average). The Fortune enchantment can be used to improve the drop rate.
Chest loot
beetroot-seeds
Trading
Beetroot seeds are sold by wandering traders for one emerald.
Usage
Farming
Beetroot seeds can be placed on farmland. After being placed, it goes through four stages of growth. When fully grown it can be broken to produce beetroot seeds and beetroots.
<!-- Java Edition only? -->While beetroot crops have only four growth stages compared to eight for wheat, carrots, and potatoes, each growth tick has a 1 chance of not advancing the growth stage and therefore beetroot grows slightly faster than other crops.
Crops grow faster if the farmland they are planted in is hydrated. One application of bonemeal has a 75% chance of advancing growth by one stage. This is less effective than for other crops: an average of 5 are needed to fully grow beetroot compared to 2 for other crops.
Breeding
Like other seeds, beetroot seeds can be used to breed chickens, lead chickens around, and make baby chickens grow up faster by 10% of the remaining time.
Taming
Like other seeds, beetroot seeds can be used to tame parrots.
Composting
Placing beetroot seeds into a composter has a 30% chance of raising the compost level by 1.
Trading
Wandering traders may offer to sell beetroot seeds for one emerald.
