This page is about Redstone Dust. For more information about Redstone in general, see Redstone, and for information about redstone ore, see Redstone Ore

When Redstone Ore is destroyed, it drops 4-5 piles of Redstone Dust. This can be placed on the ground to make a wire system, or be crafted with a stick to make a Redstone Torch (Also known as "Red Torch"). These items are very useful in the production of more complex Traps or Electric mechanisms. Currently, the Redstone Ore can be found underground, often 1-7 blocks above the Adminium located at the bottom of maps in-game.

The introduction of Redstone was a large step towards interactivity, and brought with it the mechanics of Electric Circuits, making it possible to create circuits linked with switches, buttons, levers, pressure plates and logic gates, which can currently be tied to things like doors, minecart tracks and TNT. It is possible to connect levers, buttons and pressure plates directly to these objects, as the redstone dust is not always needed.

Wires made from redstone dust will not carry their charge further than 15 blocks. However, it is possible to extend their range to a degree by making gates.

Some of the possible uses of this new substance include:

Redstone dust can be placed on the ground to make a wire system, or crafted with a stick to make a Redstone Torch. These items are very useful in the production of more complex traps or mechanisms. Redstone used to be "destroyed" when stepped on in-game, but this was changed due to an update, making the idea of "tripwires" no longer plausible.

Redstone dust changes shape depending upon if there is more redstone dust next to it. In order to open a door, the dust must be facing towards the door (not sideways)

  • Note: Map areas generated before the Redstone Update was applied, will not contain Redstone.
