Redstone is a substance most commonly found deep underground in the form of Redstone ore that was introduced in Minecraft Alpha, version 1.0.1_0. When Redstone ore is destroyed by a Pickaxe made of Iron or Diamond, it drops 4-5 piles of Redstone dust. This dust can then be placed on the ground to make a wire, or be crafted with a stick to make a Redstone torch.
Redstone could refer to:
- Redstone (Wire) - Redstone wire is redstone that has been placed on the ground.
- Redstone (Ore) - Redstone ore found deep underground.
- Redstone (Dust) - Redstone dust that can be placed as wire, or used for crafting.
- Redstone Torch - Redstone torches are often used to make redstone power go further. It is also a major component in redstone circuits.
- Redstone circuits - Redstone circuits is the practical use of redstone.
- Mechanisms - Mechanisms are created with redstone circuits. sometimes, many circuits are used for one mechanism.
- Traps - Traps are used for "farming" mobs for their resources, as well as protection against players in multiplayer.
Redstone box
Notch commented that he liked the idea of a redstone box, which would store circuits in one block. He commented it would be interactive like a workbench, only, for redstone circuits. This object, however, is unconfirmed.
