A random patch is a terrain feature composed of naturally generating clusters of plants or fungi such as grass, ferns, and flowers.

Vegetation patches can be composed of:
- General: grass, ferns, flowers, sugar cane, sweet berry bushes, pumpkins, mushrooms, bamboo and melons
- Underwater: seagrass
- Oceans: kelp
- Deserts: dead bushes and cacti
- The Nether: fire, mushrooms
