Reason: This mob is actually the same mob as the Human, just that the model was changed during Indev before becoming the Human again.
Rana was a passive mob that existed for the majority of Java Edition Indev 0.31.
Spawning
Rana spawned randomly in the world in groups with other Ranas. They could spawn at any light level as long as there was enough space.
Behavior
Rana was a passive mob. It had no animation, so it aimlessly glided and jumped around the world in the same, still pose, and never stopped moving around. Rana, along with Beast Boy, Steve, and Black Steve acted in this identical manner. Upon death, Rana would not fall over to the ground or flash red or white and appear to die, as most mobs do. It would just disappear shortly thereafter, and drop no items.
Drops
Rana did not drop any items in-game.

A heart of the sea is a rare item that can be crafted into a conduit.
Obtaining
The heart of the sea must be found. It cannot be crafted or obtained by trading, making it a non-renewable resource.
A heart of the sea is obtained from a buried treasure. The location is marked with a noticeable red X on a buried treasure map, which is found in ocean ruins and shipwrecks. Feeding raw cod or raw salmon to a dolphin causes the dolphin to swim toward the nearest buried treasure, shipwreck, or ocean ruins.

Trivia
* Before the heart of the sea was added to be, there was an entry found in the buried treasure chest loot table named
nautilus_core
, which was later revealed to be the heart of the sea. Despite the name change, the heart of the sea continues to be referred to as the
nautilus_core
in most game files.

Trivia
- Rana was created by Dock for a project of his own years ago. When he joined the Minecraft development team, he recreated her in a new style for the game.
- Rana means "frog" in Latin, and, through linguistic evolution, Spanish and Italian.
