Pointed dripstone is a block which makes up stalactites, stalagmites, and stalagnates.

Obtaining

Pointed dripstone can only be obtained from the Creative inventory or by using commands.

Breaking

Pointed dripstone can be mined with any tool, but pickaxes are the quickest. Pointed dripstone breaks instantly when a trident is thrown at it.

Usage

Pointed dripstone comes in two different forms, stalactites and stalagmites. Both forms can be connected to form a stalagnate. It can be waterlogged.

Stalactites

Stalactite

A stalactite.

Stalactites are created when pointed dripstone is placed on the bottom of a block.

Pointed dripstone drips water particles onto the ground, but it will not fill a cauldron below it unless there is a water source above the dripstone. Placing a lava source above the dripstone drips lava into cauldrons, making lava a renewable resource. Due to a bug, only stalactites that are one block tall can fill a cauldron.[1] A waterlogged dripstone at the tip of a stalactite does not produce drips or fill a cauldron. Waterlogging other parts of the stalactite doesn't affect the dripping.

Breaking stalactites that are at least two blocks off the ground will cause the unsupported pointed dripstone to fall and cause damage to any player and mobs standing beneath it, similar to a falling anvil. Damage is 2♥ for each block of height after the second. Stalactites with multiple pointed dripstone does multiple damage, however, damage immunity cancels most damage.

Stalagmites

Stalagmite

A stalagmite.

Stalagmites are created when pointed dripstone is placed on the ground.

Falling onto stalagmites multiplies the fall distance by four to calculate the total amount of fall damage, using the formula roundup(fall_distance × 4 − 3). Note that the distance travelled during last game tick of falling time is not included in this calculation, making it slightly off at higher distances; see Damage § Fall damage for more information.

Stalagnates

Stalagnate

A stalagnate.

Stalagnate are created when placing a pointed dripstone between a stalagmite and stalactite without sneaking. They are used only for decoration.
