This page is about planned versions of all editions of Minecraft. These updates either have major sources to their existence or have received development versions.
Note that only editions with known planned updates are listed here; if no known planned updates exist the edition is left out.
Java Edition
1.17
1.17, the first release of Caves & Cliffs, is an upcoming major update to Java Edition announced at Minecraft Live 2020 set to release in mid-2021, which will make revamp mountains and cave generation.[1]
Combat changes
The combat system is planned to be reworked in a future update, keeping the cooldown but only allowing the player to attack when fully charged. It is not known yet when those changes will be made, as they are developed in parallel to other features and will make it into the game "when they're good enough". The update in which they are included will also not be a combat-themed update.[2]
Bedrock Edition
1.16.100
1.16.100 is an upcoming minor update to Bedrock Edition, set to release on November 17, 2020[3], which will add new commands, expanding and improving the add-on and script engine mechanics, more parity from Java Edition, revamps the achievement/trophy UI and fixes bugs.[4]
1.16.200
1.16.200 is an upcoming minor update to Bedrock Edition with no set release date, which will add some of the first features from the Caves & Cliffs update behind the experiments toggle, new audio settings, ray-tracing features, changes to death messages and fixes bugs.[5]
1.17.0
1.17.0, the first release of Caves & Cliffs, is an upcoming major update to Bedrock Edition announced at Minecraft Live 2020 with no set release date, which will make additions and revamp mountains and cave generation.[6]
RTX Update
RTX Ray Tracing capability using the RenderDragon graphics engine is planned to be added to Bedrock Edition in a future update. It will be available on Windows 10, using a compatible NVIDIA graphics card. It is not known yet when this will be implemented, but the feature is currently in beta development.[7] The current beta version is .
