This article describes content that may be included in a future update.
This content has appeared in development versions, but the full update containing it has not been released yet.

This article is about the hostile mob from bastion remnants. For the mob that can be bartered with, see Piglin. For other pigs, see Pig (disambiguation).

A piglin brute is a hostile mob which guards the bastion remnants. This one exhibits different features from a piglin, spawning with a golden axe and attacking even if the player is wearing golden armor. Piglin brutes are not found with armor nor do they equip any type.

Spawning

Piglin brutes are found in bastions only upon generation.

Drops

There is an 8.5% chance of dropping the held item (naturally a golden axe with random durability).

5 experience points are dropped upon death if killed by a player or tamed wolf.

Behavior

Piglin brutes harm players, wither skeletons, withers and are not distracted by gold related items or blocks. The Peaceful difficulty causes them to not attack. Piglin brutes do not retreat from soul fire related items, zoglins or zombified piglins.

When in the Overworld or the End, piglin brutes transform into zombified piglins after 15 seconds. Upon transformation, the spawned zombified piglin has the Nausea effect for 10 seconds. This Nausea effect is purely cosmetic and has no impact on the behavior.

Trivia

  • Piglin brutes were created late in 1.16 so they were pushed to a minor release as the developers did not want to add a new feature so close to release.[1]
  • Despite having more than three times more health than piglins, they are not larger in size and do not appear to wear any armor.
  • The golden arm guard is meant to work as a "protection" and is the reason behind their high health.[2]
  • A piglin brute is able to track you even through a wall if you open a chest or break any gold related block.
