Piglins are neutral mobs that spawn in the Nether. Initially, they are hostile toward the player, but they become neutral mobs if the player wears at least one piece of gold armor. They are equipped with crossbows or golden swords. Players can barter with piglins using gold ingots to receive various items.
Spawning
Piglins spawn in groups of 4 in crimson forests, bastions and nether wastes. 5% spawn as babies. Piglins do not despawn in peaceful.
Drops
Adults have an 8.5% chance of dropping their held item (a golden sword or crossbow with random durability). Each Looting tier increases this chance by 1%.
Babies always spawn without anything.
A picked up item always drops without changing the durability.
Armor
Adults sometimes spawn with three or four pieces, which are normal or enchanted and may be:
These are dropped with an 8.5% chance and random durability.
Experience
Adult piglins drop five points and more 1–3 per armor piece if killed by a player or tamed wolf. Baby piglins drop 1.
Behavior

| — Henrik Kniberg on Meet the piglins in the Minecraft website |
Baby piglins play with baby hoglins, running around and mounting them. Up to 3 piglins may stack on top of each other while riding a baby hoglin.
Idle adults retreat from zombified piglins, zoglins, soul fire, soul torches, soul lanterns, and non-extinguished soul campfires.
Piglins cannot swim and drown if submerged. They are not naturally immune to fire or lava.
Like villagers, piglins can open wooden doors.
Hostility
The adults are hostile, but if the player wears at least one piece of gold armor, they become neutral. Piglins are provoked when players attack them, similar to iron golems and endermen. Piglins are also aggravated when a nearby chest, trapped chest, ender chest, barrel or shulker box is opened or broken; however, they are not when another container such as a hopper, furnace, or brewing stand is opened. Hence, hoppers can be used to extract items from chests without aggravating.[1] They are also provoked by a player breaking gold blocks, gold ore, gilded blackstone, and nether gold ore. Piglins will remain hostile for 30 seconds if the player provokes them in any of these ways.
Piglins can detect the breaking and opening of blocks within a range of 16 blocks in a straight line from the player (this can be altered with the invisibility effect). The block interacted with does not require a line of sight to anger the piglins.
Adults attack wither skeletons and withers. Also, they attack adult hoglins but keep a distance of 6 blocks if outnumbered. After defeating a hoglin, piglins have a 10% chance to do a "victory dance" by bobbing their heads and sticking out their arms.
Adult piglins group together within 16 blocks and attack in hordes.
When attacking with a crossbow, piglins shoot arrows every 2 seconds. In Java Edition, they walk backward (stopping if at the edge of a drop) as soon as the player is close. Unlike bow-armed mobs, they do not strafe from left to right while shooting. Piglins with swords and other equipable items rush at the player.
Iron golems attack both adult and baby piglins; adults do not attack an iron golem until it attacks first.
Piglins can briefly stop attacking the player if they are given gold items; bartering then takes place as it normally would if given a gold ingot. However, they resume attacking once the barter is complete. The only exception is if a piglin is attacking a player because the player isn't wearing any gold armor. If the player distracts them with a gold ingot and then equips a piece of gold armor while the piglin is examining the gold ingot, then the piglin will give the player an item in return and then end hostility, until the player does something else to provoke the piglin.
Bartering
Picking up items
Any piglins can pick up and equip any gold related item, regardless of their ability to pick up other items. A piglin inspects any gold-related item for 6 seconds after picking it up. However, piglins will not pick up any items if the MobGriefing gamerule is set to false.
Piglins have eight hidden inventory slots in which they can stack items. When a piglin with a full inventory encounters another item, it picks up the item and then throws it on the floor after contemplating it, leading to a cycle of continuously picking up and discarding the item. Baby piglins attempt to pick up any item and can steal from players. Adult piglins can pick up any golden item and porkchops, but they don't actively seek out and contemplate porkchops; instead, if either of those items is nearby, they instantly place it in their inventory. Piglins drop any of these items upon death aside from gold ingots, raw porkchops, and cooked porkchops.
Like other mobs capable of picking up items, piglins pick up armor and weapons. However, unlike other mobs, they prefer items in the gold tier or armor material and throw away stronger items to equip these.

When in the Overworld or the End, piglins transform into zombified piglins after 15 seconds, retaining their armor and held items. However, they can not shoot a crossbow and will only melee the player with it. Upon transformation, the spawned zombified piglin has the Nausea effect for 10 seconds.
