Piglins are hostile mobs that spawn in the Nether. They are equipped with crossbows or golden swords. While they are normally hostile toward the player, they become neutral if the player wears golden armor. The player is capable of bartering with them.
Spawning
In Java Edition, piglins spawn commonly in groups of 1–3 in crimson forests and uncommonly in the nether wastes biomes. Each piglin has a 25% chance of spawning as a baby.
In Bedrock Edition, piglins spawn in groups of 1–5 in crimson forests and nether wastes. Piglins have a 5% chance to spawn as babies.
Adult piglins spawn with either golden swords or crossbows and sometimes wearing golden armor. Baby piglins spawn without any equipment.
Piglins do not despawn in peaceful mode.[Java Edition only]
Unlike zombie pigmen, piglins can not spawn on magma blocks.
Drops
Piglins have a 8.5% chance of dropping their naturally-spawned equipment and drop it with random durability. Each level of Looting increases the chance by 1 percentage point (11.5% chance with Looting III).
Any picked-up equipment or other picked items have a 100% chance of dropping and drop without changing the damage that has accumulated on it. In Java Edition, a piglin who is hit while inspecting a gold ingot during bartering puts the ingot in its inventory. This gold ingot is dropped upon death. If killed in one hit while inspecting, the gold has the same chance to drop as any other held item.

Adult piglins drop 5 experience and an extra 1–3 experience per equipment if killed by player or tamed wolf.
Baby piglins drop 1 and an extra 1–2 per equipment if killed by player or tamed wolf.
Behavior
The specific instructions are:
- Baby piglin riding a Bedrock Edition baby hoglin.
- Dancing piglin animated render from Bedrock Edition.
Piglins are hostile to players, unless they wear at least one piece of gold armor. With it, they become neutral, but still attack if provoked. Piglins are also provoked by breaking or opening a chest, trapped chest, ender chest, barrel, or a shulker box in their sight. They become hostile if a player mines a gold block, but not if they mine other golden-type blocks like nether gold ore.
Piglins attack wither skeletons and withers. Additionally, adult piglins also attack adult hoglins, but keep a distance of 6 blocks if outnumbered by hoglins. Adult piglins may group together within radius 32 blocks and attack in hordes like zombified piglins.
Baby piglins are passive and never attack anything, they play with baby hoglins, running with them and mounting them. In Bedrock Edition, only 10% of baby piglins mount baby hoglins, but in Java Edition, any piglin can, and up to 3 piglins stacked on top of each other may ride a baby hoglin. Iron golems attack both adult and baby piglins; adults do not attack an iron golem until it attacks first.
When attacking with a crossbow, it shoots arrows every 2 seconds and in Java Edition, walks backward (stopping if at the edge of a drop) as soon as the enemy is close. Unlike bow-armed mobs, they do not strafe from left to right while shooting. Piglins with swords and other equipable items rush towards the player.
Piglins willingly downgrade to golden armor if they are wearing higher tier armor, or armor that has higher durability than gold, such as iron, chainmail, diamond, or netherite armor.
When in the Overworld, piglins transform into zombified piglins after 15 seconds and will start burning under direct sunlight.[Bedrock Edition only] When they transform, they retain their armor (but lose held items) and gain a golden sword. Upon transformation, the spawned zombified piglin has the Nausea effect for 10 seconds. This does not occur in the End.[Java Edition only] In Bedrock Edition, piglins in the End also transform into zombified piglins.
Piglins that are not currently attacking retreat from zombified piglins, soul fire, soul fire torches, and soul fire lanterns.
Piglins drown in water, they do not swim. They are capable of opening doors.
Despite being a nether mob, piglins are not naturally immune to fire damage.
Bartering

Bartering is an action the player can perform with piglins to obtain various items.
Mechanics
<onlyinclude>To barter with a piglin, either throw by dropping a gold ingot near an adult piglin or use a gold ingot on it. After the piglin takes the gold ingot and examines it for six seconds in Java Edition or eight seconds in Bedrock Edition[1], it tosses a random item to the player. Piglin brutes ignore gold ingots. Baby piglins take the ingot without giving anything in return, instead holding the ingot, which is dropped when killed.
Piglins pick up many other items that are made of gold; however, ingots are the only items that piglins accept for bartering. Baby piglins are incapable of bartering and treat gold ingots like any other gold items.
Hitting a piglin causes it to "confiscate" the ingot; the piglin does not complete the barter. It cannot be bartered with again unless it puts another item in its inventory. Piglins who are killed in one hit before they finish examining always drop the ingot.
When a piglin is admiring a gold ingot, it can still be angered by the player breaking a container or a gold-related block nearby, although its behavior differs depending on the game edition. In Java Edition, the piglin finishes the barter on the original schedule, and only starts attacking the player once the barter finishes. In Bedrock Edition, the piglin immediately finishes the barter and starts attacking the player,[2] leading to a bartering transaction much shorter than the default 8 seconds.[3] This allows piglins in Bedrock Edition to barter rapidly when gold-related blocks are repeatedly broken nearby, or when a gold-related block is repeatedly pushed and pulled by pistons.

Bartering is controlled by the loot table minecraft:gameplay/piglin_bartering. If the game rule mobGriefing is false, piglins only barter when the player uses a gold ingot on them.
If a piglin is zombified into a zombified piglin before the bartering is complete, the newly-zombified piglin drops the gold ingot.
The player can only barter with piglins, not piglin brutes or zombified piglins, even if the zombified piglin was a piglin that was zombified in the Overworld or the End.
When a piglin is admiring a gold ingot while bartering, it does not run away from nearby zoglins or nearby zombified piglins.

- Piglins sometimes pick up and equip the iron boots enchanted with Soul Speed that they have just offered while bartering. A player wanting to obtain the iron boots without killing the piglin can induce the piglin to discard the iron boots by offering a pair of golden boots.

Picking up items
Any piglin can pick up and equip any gold related item, regardless of their ability to pick up other items. A piglin inspects any gold-related item for a moment after picking it up.
Piglins have eight[JE only]/three[BE only] hidden inventory slots in which they can stack items. When a piglin with a full inventory encounters another item, it picks up the item and then throws it on the floor after contemplating it, leading to a cycle of continuously picking up and discarding the item. Baby piglins attempt to pick up any item and can steal from players. Adult piglins can pick up any golden item and porkchops, but they don't actively seek out and contemplate porkchops and gold nuggets; instead, if either of those items is nearby, they instantly place it in their inventory. Piglins drop any of these items upon death aside from gold ingots, raw porkchops and cooked porkchops.
Like other mobs capable of picking up items, piglins pick up armor and weapons. However, unlike other mobs, they prefer items in the gold tier of armor material, and throw away stronger items to equip these.

Bundles are used to store different [[item|item type]]s in the same [[inventory]] slot. This does not, however, increase the total capacity of the slot: each bundle has 64 "bundle slots" and each item placed in the bundle takes up these slots similar to how they take up space in a normal inventory slot: items that stack to 64 take up 1 bundle slot, items that stack to 16 (for example, [[egg]]s) take up 4, and items that do not stack (such as tools/weapons/armor) take up the whole bundle, all 64 slots.

Some items, when {{control|used|use}}, place a [[block]] (ItemBlock) or [[entity]] (minecart, spawn eggs, etc.) version of themselves into the game world. Put simply, they are an item when in the [[inventory]], and a block when placed. For example, [[boat]]s turn into an entity when placed, and [[bed]]s turn into a group of blocks when placed. When selected in the [[hotbar]], items briefly display their names above the [[HUD]].
The only method by which an item can be properly displayed within the game environment is to place it into an [[item frame]].
If an item that does not become a block is dropped, it becomes an [[Item (entity)|entity]] represented by a sprite that floats above the ground for 5 minutes in a loaded [[chunk]] before despawning, unless the player walks over it to pick it up before it despawns, it is picked up by a mob, [[hopper]] or [[minecart with hopper]], or it is destroyed by [[fire]], [[lava]], [[cactus]], or [[explosion]]s.
