Illager patrols[1] are common naturally spawning groups of pillagers and vindicators that attack villages.
Spawning
Illager patrols spawn as a group of a maximum of five pillagers (weight 55) or vindicators (weight 27), one of which is the patrol "leader".
Illager patrols spawn 200 blocks away from villages in plains, taiga, desert and savanna biomes, as well as their variants, on sand and grass blocks with a block light level of 0–8 and a sky light level of 10–15. They will also spawn near outposts, patrolling the area around the structure; patrols which spawn near outposts will not include a patrol leader.
The patrol leader will wear an
illager banner on their head.
Behavior
Illager patrols will circle inwards to villages and then proceed to attack the village and try to kill villagers and iron golems.
The patrol leader always drops an illager banner upon death.
Bad Omen
Upon killing a patrol leader, the player will have the Bad Omen effect applied to them. This effect lasts for 30 seconds, and has no immediate effects on the player. However, if a player enters a village before the effect fades, it will immediately be removed from the player, and a new illager patrol will spawn near the village after approximately 5 seconds. Patrols spawned as a result of the Bad Omen effect will not include patrol leaders.
