Some people building in one of AVMs rooms

Multiplayer Minecraft was released officially on the 8th June 2009, after many beta trials. Users can download [1] and run the server package that allows other players to connect to and play on their server. Future versions will have multiple Game Modes.

Community spirit

In multiplayer, players can press 'T' to chat to others.
Multiplayer nurtures the community spirit; people work together to build things, and unite in the face of griefers. It is the strong policing of these rooms, powered by a "patriotic" attachment to the game, (or one's favorite server) that makes the game very hard for griefers.

Technical

The server saves the level to the server_level.dat file every minute.

Known Issues

  • It is possible in the current version to duplicate blocks easily, using chests and latency.
  • Redstone circuits do not currently work.
  • Minecarts are incredibly buggy and the tracks cause servers to lag.
