The Aether is a popular content mod which includes the Aether realm, the opposite of The Nether that includes several new blocks, mobs, and items, as well as a whole new accessory system.
Installing
The current Aether version 1.9 Pre-release 2 works with Minecraft 1.2.5. In order to install it you will need these versions of these mods:
The contents of Forge and Player API go in to minecraft.jar file. With Aether 1.9, the contents of the rar's Jar folder go inside minecraft.jar, and the contents of the rar's Resources folder go inside your Minecraft's resources/ folder. Note: Make sure to create a backup copy of your minecraft.jar file in the bin folder before you start. Install these mods in the order listed above, and test-run Minecraft after installing each mod before moving on to the next one.
If you have issues, install each mod one at a time, restarting Minecraft and loading a world after each mod to see if each works. This way you can see where your issue comes up. Make absolutely sure you have downloaded the recommended version of each mod, and check the troubleshoot installation page to learn how to resolve some common installation issues.

Version History
The version history page provides easy access to information about recent changes and bug fixes for the different versions of the mod.
The Aether
The Aether is a realm in the sky, as opposed to The Nether underground. Its main features are large floating islands and formations of Aeroclouds.
Since the Aether Mod is an expansion to Minecraft, due to this when you start in the Aether using your diamond tools to cut trees from the Aether takes longer than to do it with you bare hands, thus it's like you have to start a new game in Minecraft, albeit, in the Aether instead.
Normal torches and Fire cannot be used in the Aether, although water brought from the normal Minecraft dimension works properly. Beds from 1.01 will explode if the player tries to sleep in one, beds from 1.02 don't. When a player falls from the Aether, they'll be spawned from the sky of the normal overworld, usually on top of their original portal, unless they fell too far away from their original Aether spawn. Therefore normal worlds be used to cover distances from the Aether rather quickly.
A player will then usually fall to his death, unless they're playing on peaceful, riding a moa or flying pig, has a Cloud or Golden Parachute in his inventory, or falls into water. Sometimes a falling player may re-appear standing on a tall mountain.
The sun in Aether realm will not move, the rain or snow are also absent although the sky dims slightly like in desert biomes of the overworld. Same applies to thunderstorms: sky dims a lot but precipitation and lightning don't show up. If you defeated the Gold Dungeon Boss, the aether can become night. The Aether "day" is as long as three Earth days. If it begins raining in the real world, the sky in the Aether will darken accordingly albeit without rain or snow.

Armor
Zanite Armor: Armor that gets stronger with use. By default, iron-level protection.
Gravitite Armor: When the full suit is worn, the player is capable of jumping 6 blocks high, and takes no fall damage, even when they fall back down to the Overworld. Diamond-level protection.
Neptune Armor: A full suit allows the player to go through water at maximum speed. Diamond-level protection.
Phoenix Armor: Full suit grants complete immunity to lava and fire damage, but clutters the HUD with flames. If the player enters water, the armor will quickly cool into Obsidian Armor. Diamond-level protection.
Obsidian Armor: Extremely durable armor. 33% stronger than even diamond armor.

Dungeons
Dungeons in Aether are much more complex than in normal world. Each of them will have a boss which has to be defeated to get the key required to open the grey chest located inside the dungeon boss room. Blocks which make up the main structure of the dungeon cannot be destroyed or obtained until the boss of the dungeon is defeated.
Bronze Dungeons
The entrance of bronze dungeons are located on the sides of normal islands. Bronze dungeons can have a varying number rooms. Non-boss rooms contain sentries which try to kill the player, and sometimes have chests on 4x4 tables. Some of these chests are mimics, however. The boss of this dungeon can't be attacked with a sword. He can take damage from any tools (pickaxe,shovel,etc.). 9 blocks on the floor of each antechamber aren't minable at all. The boss room's walls are only minable once the boss is dead.
Silver Dungeons
These dungeons are located within Parthenons in the sky. These have multiple floors, typically 3, each with multiple rooms. Most rooms have chests inside them, and while the majority of the chests are fake (Mimics), others contain some items. Silver dungeons are inhabited by Valkyries, which only attack when the player attacks them. When playing on Peaceful, Valkyries still appear, but will teleport away when you try to attack them. Killing a Valkyrie yields a single Victory Medal. The boss of this dungeon can only be attacked by presenting it with 10 of the medals, which can be done by right-clicking on it with the medals in hand. The Silver Dungeon boss can be attacked with any weapon.
Gold Dungeons
Gold Dungeons are located within spherical islands with lots of Golden Oak trees growing on top of them. This dungeon normally will only have the boss room in it, with no treasure/mob rooms beforehand. The boss cannot be killed by attacking it directly and must be killed by hitting the white object he throws back at it multiple times. Every time it is hit with the white object, it sends out a smaller version of itself to kill you.
Dungeon Rewards
| Name | Description | Found in |
|---|---|---|
| Golden Feather | The Golden Feather is an accessory that allows the player to float slowly when falling. This also prevents fall damage for the player. | Silver Dungeon |
| Iron Bubble | The Iron Bubble is an accessory that prevents drowning underwater. | Gold Dungeon |
| Regeneration Stone | The Regeneration Stone is an accessory that heals the user over time. | Silver Dungeon |
| Invisibility Cloak | The Invisibility Cloak is a cape that may be worn to make the player invisible to mobs. However, attacking or using items will briefly lift the cloak, and mobs will see and track the player as normal. | Silver Dungeon |
| Valkyrie Lance | The Valkyrie Lance is a strong weapon with extended reach. It allows you to target up to 10 blocks ahead and deals 5.5 damage but, perhaps due to a bug, you can only hit enemies at normal range. | Bronze Dungeon |
| Vampire Blade | The Vampire Blade is as strong as a Diamond Sword and heals the user when they strike an enemy. | Gold Dungeon |
| Phoenix Bow | The Phoenix Bow fires flaming arrows when used. | Bronze Dungeon |

| Neptune Armor | A full set of this armor will allow the player to swim faster. | Silver and Gold Dungeon |

Compatibility with other mods
The Aether attempts to achieve maximum compatibility by existing libraries where possible. Because it uses Forge and PlayerAPI, it's only the main menu class that the Aether mod changes. Most mods which work with Forge will therefore be compatible with the Aether.

Trivia
- Aether is the Greek personification and elemental god of "the bright, glowing upper air of heaven -– the substance of light". He embodies the pure upper air that the gods breathe, as opposed to the normal air breathed by mortals. The aether was also known as Zeus's defensive wall, the boundary that locked Tartarus from the rest of the cosmos.
