The Aether Collaboration is a content mod which includes the Aether realm, several new blocks, mobs, and items, as well as a whole new accessory system.

Installing

In order to install the Aether Collaboration you will need three pre-existing mods: ModLoader, AudioMod, and ShockAhPI. Installing these in the wrong order may cause your game to crash. Always make sure that you install Modloader first, and the Aether collab after AudioMod and ShockAhPI.

Installation is easy, just make sure you create a backup copy of your minecraft.jar file in the bin folder before you start. Then just copy the contents of the mods into their respective folders.

In some cases the order of installation does not matter, I suggest that you only change the order if You are re-installing The Aether mod.

If you are having issues, install each mod one at a time, restarting Minecraft and loading a world after each mod to see if each works. This way you can see where your issue comes up. Make absolutely sure you have downloaded the recommended version of each mod.

Features

Patch 1.01

This patch was directed towards bug fixes. The contents of the patch is as follows:

  • Moas were untamable/unfeedable. This has been fixed, with Blue Moas requiring 3 Aechor Petals, White Moas requiring 4 Aechor Petals, and Black Moas requiring 8 Aechor Petals. You still need to wait for the Baby Moa to "digest" its food before feeding it again.
  • There was an Overpopulation/Underpopulation of Mobs (e.g. Too many Zephyrs, very little Aechor Plants, occasionally no Swets, etc). This has been fixed, by scaling down the Zephyr spawn-rate a lot more.
  • Golden Oaks were minable effectively with a Pickaxe instead of an Axe. You should now be able to gain Golden Amber/Skyroot Logs from Golden Oaks with Axes.
  • You could not craft Zanite armor, as only the gloves were craftable. This has been fixed, with all recipes added.
  • Non-generated Quicksoil was still returning drops with a Skyroot Shovel. This exploit has been patched.
  • Icestone used to freeze not only the source block but the stream also. When the source was frozen the stream would stay behind and doesn't go away. This has been fixed so that the source blocks are frozen instead, and the streams disappear afterwards.
  • Zephyrs used to drop Gunpowder. This has now been changed so that they drop a large stack of Cold Aercloud.[1]

The spawn rate issues, however, don't seem to be fixed after the v1.01 update. (also see Current Known Bugs).

Aether realm

The Aether is a realm in the sky. Its main features are floating islands and solid clouds. Normal torches and Fire cannot be used in the Aether, although water brought from the normal Minecraft dimension works properly. As in the Nether, beds will explode if the player tries to sleep in one. When a player falls from the Aether, they'll be spawned from the sky of the normal overworld, usually on top of their original portal, unless they fell too far away from their original Aether spawn. A player will then usually fall to his death, unless they're playing on peaceful, riding a moa or flying pig, has a Cloud or Golden parachute in his inventory, or falls into water. Sometimes a falling player may re-appear standing on a tall mountain. The sun in Aether realm will not move, but a version of night occurs when the sky clouds over and the light dims slightly. No one is sure whether this is rain, or actually nighttime. The Aether "day" is as long as three Earth days.

New blocks

Name Description Image
Aether Dirt Aether dirt is the basic dirt in the Aether, and will grow into Aether Grass when exposed to sunlight. It is easier to break than normal dirt found on the surface. Skyroot trees and Golden oaks are the two primary plants that grow on it. File:AetherDirt.png
Skyroot Logs Skyroot Logs are the main base of Skyroot Trees which are located throughout most of the islands. They provide the basic essential for your Aether adventures, and can be crafted into four Skyroot Planks These planks can be crafted into Skyroot tools, which will give twice their intended item when used. This can be an advantage when collecting materials such as Holystone or Ambrosia File:SkyrootLogSide.png
Skyroot Leaves Skyroot Leaves are the leaf blocks of Skyroot Trees. As normal leaves do, some of them will drop a Skyroot Sapling to replant. File:SkyrootLeaves.png
Golden Oak Logs Golden Oak Logs make up the base of Golden Oak trees which can be located sparsely scattered throughout the normal islands, in silver dungeon boss rooms, and lining the top of gold dungeons. They are embedded with Golden Amber, which can be used to craft very powerful Golden Darts. The logs require Zanite or greater axes to cut. (1.01) File:GoldenOak.png
Golden Oak Leaves Golden Oak Leaves are the leaf blocks of Golden Oak trees. They occasionally drop Golden Oak Saplings and Golden Apples.
Skyroot Sapling Occasionally dropped from Skyroot Leaves. Skyroot Saplings allow you to replant Skyroot Trees when placed on Aether Dirt or Aether Grass. File:SkyrootSapling.png
Golden Oak Saplings Golden Oak Saplings are occasionally dropped from Golden Oak Leaves. They can be replanted into Aether Dirt to regrow a Golden Oak tree. File:GoldenOakSapling.png
Skyroot Planks Skyroot Planks can be crafted from Skyroot Logs. They can be used to craft Skyroot Sticks and from there, Skyroot Tools. File:Plank.png
Holystone Holystone is the common stone block in the Aether, and can be used to craft Holystone Tools and other blocks such as Incubators and Enchanters. File:Holystone.png
Mossy Holystone Mossy Holystone is a slightly rare Holystone block that can be found at the base of bronze or silver Aether Dungeon entrances. It is available in much larger quantities than Mossy Cobblestone. File:MossyHolystone.png
Cold Aercloud Cold Aerclouds are the very common type of Aercloud found in the Aether. Long strips of them can be found in the formations of clouds. When landing on them they randomly prevent fall damage, though this is an all-or-nothing function. Use them wisely, but be wary when falling from large heights. They can also be crafted into Cloud Parachutes. File:Aercloud.png

Blue Aerclouds

Blue Aerclouds are slightly rarer than Cold Aerclouds, forming only small cloud formations. They can also be obtained from killing Blue Swets. Blue aerclouds bounce mobs, items and the player when coming into contact. They propel the player about 18 meters into the air and randomly prevent fall damage on impact. File:Aercloud.png
Gold Aerclouds Gold Aerclouds are the rarest type of Aercloud. Alone, they do not have any special properties from normal Cold Aerclouds, but they can be crafted into Golden Parachutes which have 20 uses rather than the normal 1. File:Aercloud.png
Quicksoil Quicksoil can be found on the fringes of islands or their cliffs, making it difficult to dig at most times. When mobs walk on it, their movement speed is increased. However, it takes a while to build up speed. These can be both a good block to use because of its speed modifying properties, but also a dangerous block to come into contact with. If you accidentally fall on it, your character will not stop walking, and you'll eventually be thrown off the side. File:Quicksoil.png
Icestone Icestone can be found in large chunks, usually on the sides of islands. On placement, they will freeze all water and lava sources around it. File:Icestone.png
Ambrosium Ore Ambrosium Ore is a common block found in the Aether, surrounded by holystone. It drops Ambrosium Shards, which can be used for Ambrosia Torches, fueling Enchanters, and even healing. File:AmbrosiumOre.png
Zanite Ore Zanite Ore is slightly rarer than Ambrosium Ore, and can be found on the sides of islands and surrounded by holystone. Zanite Gemstones are dropped from these ore blocks, and can be used for a variety of recipes (including Zanite Tools, Armour, and more). File:ZaniteOre.png
Gravitite Ore / Enchanted Gravitite Gravitite Ore is the rarest ore-type in the Aether, and can be placed into Enchanters to create Enchanted Gravitite blocks. This ore can be found near the bottom of the islands. Gravitite Ore, by default, will float up into the air. However, Enchanted Gravitite only floats up into the air when powered with redstone. Enchanted Gravitite is required to craft powerful Gravitite Tools and Gravitite Armour. File:GravititeOre.png File:EnchantedGravitite.png
Pillar A decorative Pillar block found on the outside of Silver Dungeons. File:PillarSide.png
Pillar Top A decorative Pillar Top block found on the outside of Silver Dungeons. File:PillarTop.png
Ambrosium Torch Ambrosium Torches are like regular torches, just crafted with Skyroot Sticks and Ambrosium Shards instead. They're given at a 2:1 supplies ratio, rather than the normal 4:1. File:AmbrosiumTorch.png
Enchanter Enchanters are a new type of tile entity which can be crafted, requiring 8 Holystone blocks and one Zanite Gemstone to craft. By default, it uses Ambrosium Shards as fuel, and can repair damaged tools or items; the more damaged the tool is, the more fuel it requires. It can also enchant a few existing items into more powerful versions. It can NOT however, repair dungeon boss rewards. You must complete more dungeons and earn the rewards again. File:EnchanterSide.png
Incubator Incubators are a new type of tile entity which can be crafted. They require 8 Holystone blocks and one Ambrosium Torch. By default, it used Ambrosium Torches as fuel, and can incubate Moa Eggs into Baby Moas that you can tame. File:IncubatorTop.png
Locked Chest Locked Chests are found in Dungeons, and cannot be broken. To acquire their rare loot within, you must obtain a key by killing the Dungeon Boss. File:LockedChestFront.png
Dungeon Stones Decorative blocks found within the Aether Dungeons. File:AngelicStone.png File:CarvedStone.png File:HellfireStone.png
Dungeon Lightstones Decorative blocks found within the Aether Dungeons which radiate a small amount of light. File:LightAngelicStone.png File:LightCarvedStone.png File:LightHellfireStone.png
Aerogel A slightly transparent block which is resistant to all explosions. These can only be found in Dungeon treasure chests. File:Aerogel.png

Dungeons

Dungeons in Aether are much more complex than in normal world. Each of them will have a boss which has to be defeated to get the key required to open the grey chest located inside the dungeon boss room. Blocks which make up the main structure of the dungeon cannot be destroyed or obtained until the boss of the dungeon is defeated.

Bronze Dungeons

Main article: /Bronze Dungeon/

The entrance of bronze dungeons are located on the sides of normal islands. Bronze dungeons can have a varying number rooms. Non-boss rooms contain sentries which try to kill the player, and sometimes have chests on 4x4 tables. Some of these chests are mimics, however. The boss of this dungeon can only be attacked with a pickaxe. 9 blocks on the floor of each antechamber aren't minable atall. The boss room's walls are only minable once the boss is dead.

Silver Dungeons

Main article: /Silver Dungeon/

These dungeons are located within Parthenons in the sky. These have multiple floors, typically 3, each with multiple rooms. Most rooms have chests inside them, and while the majority of the chests are fake (Mimics), others contain some items. Silver dungeons are inhabited by Valkyries, which only attack when the player attacks them. When playing on Peaceful, Valkyries still appear, but will teleport away when you try to attack them. Killing a Valkyrie yields a single Victory Medal. The boss of this dungeon can only be attacked by presenting it with 10 of the medals, which can be done by right-clicking on it with the medals in hand. The Silver Dungeon boss can be attacked with any weapon.

Gold Dungeons

Main article: /Gold Dungeon/

Gold Dungeons are located within spherical islands with lots of Golden Oak trees growing on top of them. This dungeon normally will only have the boss room in it, with no treasure/mob rooms beforehand. The boss cannot be killed by attacking it directly and must be killed in another way.

Current Known Bugs

  • Aerwhales tend to get stuck in the terrain all the time.
  • Swets occasionally spawn on peaceful difficulty.
  • Tamed Moas despawn.
  • If a player's game crashes or logs out during a dungeon boss fight in either a bronze or gold dungeon, upon logging back in the boss may have vanished and the room remain sealed permanently off. Without a method of killing themselves available, players who find themselves in this position may be forced to create a new map (confirmed for bronze dungeon situationally).
  • Spawn rates still seem to be off after update 1.01 with the spawn rates of Zephyrs, Aerwhales and Cockatrices way too high, and the of all other mobs too low.
  • Black Moas only jump 6 times instead of 8.
  • Black Moa babies only take 7 instead of 8 Aechor Petals to grow into an adult.
  • Golden Oaks drop Skyroot Logs instead of Golden Oak Logs, but they can still randomly drop Golden Amber.
  • Sentries can instantly spawn and explode inside the player.
  • While indestructible by ordinary means, dungeon chests are susceptible to explosions.

Compatibility with other mods

The Aether Collaboration attempts to achieve maximum compatibility by using as many libraries as possible. Because it uses ModLoader, Audiomod and ShockAhPI, the Aether Collaboration itself doesn't edit any of minecraft's main classes. Most mods wich make use of Modloader and/or ShockAhPI will therefore be compatible with the Aether Collaboration.
