Hacking is altering software in order to make it work in a way not originally intended. It is not be confused with 'Cracking' - the process of forcing entry into a network or unit over which you have no right.
In Minecraft, hacking refers to using a memory editor in order to alter the variables which the Minecraft java, or standalone application is storing on your computer. This allows you access to blocks not usually available.
Method
- Pull out Cheat engine or another memory editor.
- From the PROCESSES List, select 'java.exe' (Please note: If you have downloaded the standalone, select 'Minecraft.exe' from the list instead.)
- In minecraft, make sure you have the first block in your UI as stone.
- Scan for the exact value 1
- Go to minecraft and change the first block in the UI to cobblestone.
- Scan for the exact value 4
- Go to minecraft and change the first block back to stone
- Repeat step 4
- This should yield one or two addresses. Pick one (or both) and change the value to one of the following material locations given underneath.

Any selections above the highest block number will freeze your game due to the fact that there are no blocks to fill the slots for those numbers yet.
Consequences
Trying to do this can result you in getting banned/kick/ipbanned in multiplayer servers, though the server will know when you're cheating/hacking. It'll say "Cheat detected: Tile type" and will reset everything back to normal, so it only works in Single player. It should be noted that hacking is only appropriate in single player mode, and attempting it on a multiplayer server can result in the software kicking you from the server.
Memory Hacking/Editing
A cube of destruction after the action.
Cube of destruction (CoD)
A cube of destruction is actually a 2*2*2 cube of tnt, that has been frozen on the TNT state and will never change back to air (until MC changes block addresses). To do this you need a memory editor with the ability to "freeze" a value. Then go into the game, survival, /indev/, /infdev/ works all the same. Gather 8 blocks of the same type (dirt is not good as the starting block since there are very much dirt on a map, use plank, sand or wool/ 2 sets of blocks is better), get the number of the blocks of the above list, place the 8 blocks, scan for the value of the block, remove the blocks, scan for air (0), maybe use the second set of blocks if avaible, repeat. Repeat until you only have 8 blocks left, change those blocks to number 46 (tnt) and freeze/save them on this value. Activate the tnt, run for your life (except its unlimited) and have fun looking at a MC nuke.
New update resource
More and more updates come and you realise that if you want any of those new "Things" you need to make a new map. But now there's a solution. For example: You really would like to try out the new "Red powder". You just need to do the above to make 64 pieces of useless dirt into 64 pieces of extremely useful red powder. you can also try this with the mob spawner or the mossy cobble-stone. or you could just use this to get lots of cart tracks as they require quite a lot of iron.
Alternatively, to get new resources in alpha, thanks to the continuous generation of level data, you only need to travel to an unexplored section to get something new.
