The Sky Dimension (otherwise known as the Floating Island Dimension or the dream world and sometimes referred to as heaven) is a work in progress by Notch. It "performs well, [but] looks ugly"[1]. It is now a confirmed update[2] but the releasedate is not known. In a live webcast on the Swedish gaming site feber.se Notch revealed that the Sky Dimension would "probably be a dream world" and that when "you go to bed there is a certain chance that you get dragged into the dream world instead. Then you will be able to do it on purpose later on."

History

The Sky Dimension was first announced after Notch played Spleef against a man with the twitter account named "Evil_Notch" (video is on twitter). It was probably made to be like a "heaven", since the "Evil Mojang" team declared the Nether to be "hell". The sky dimension was not completely confirmed until Notch released an update via Twitter stating: "And because PC Gamer made such a big deal of the sky dimension, I guess I'll have to finish it. Consider it confirmed." [2]

Trivia

  • There is a mod with a similar premise as the sky dimension called the "Aether" mod.
  • It has been found that Notch has left the data in for the sky dimension in the game and can be enabled with a mod made by 303[3]. (Note: The thread title says it's meant for 1.6.4, but it works just fine with 1.6.5)
  • It is always midday in the sky dimension.
  • It does not rain or snow in the sky dimension. Cloud cover appears, but rain or snow does not fall.
  • Sugar cane cannot be found in the sky dimension. Because of this, you cannot make a map in it unless you bring the materials before going there.
  • Although rare, it IS possible to find Redstone and Lapis Lazuli in the sky dimension. Diamond is even more rare, but is still possible to be found.
  • If you select the Map (Item) while in the Sky Dimension, your game will display the saving chunks screen and crash.
