CPU Usage

minecraft_server.jar consumes 100% CPU on Ubuntu 10.04.2 even when zero players are connected. This issue also existed on 1.9pre3 but not 1.8 (never tried pre1 or pre2). Update: Verified this occurs regardless of JVM (Open JDK or Sun Java).

This behavior is not present when the server initially starts. After about 30 seconds, the java process then pegs at 100%. No users need to connect at all.

This behavior is present regardless of the map. E.g., even a newly generated map in 1.9-pre4 causes the java process to peg. But new maps seem to take longer to reach a constant of 100% utilization.

There is an open issue on the Mojang Get Satisfaction page for this... if you're experiencing this issue or have info to add, please take a look and upvote it (the +1). http://gsfn.us/t/2g2yl

I believe this isn't just a multiplayer problem. Mincraft 1.9 pre-releases seem to take up more processing power than 1.8.1 in general. BaroqueWolf 20:07, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
But 100% CPU usage when nobody is present on the server? That doesn't seem right. Or at least would be nice if the server had some way of telling you WHAT it's doing with all that CPU (if anything). CeeeKay 01:16, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Mobs

Silverfish seem to act as a "Full Block" if surrounded by lava, so it does not flow on top of them. It being trapped, it will not walk into lava as other mobs would. (May be an already existing bug, or intentional) RossRoss 17:49, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Parent animal follow and push their babies non stop Chaosmonkey45 23:18, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Landscape/Seed generation

On my map (randomly generated) it looks like there are random clumps of blocks (maybe 5-10 blocks) randomly floating in the air off the side of a cliff. This may just be a seed generation thing for that particular seed, but either way it looks unrealistic. RossRoss 17:43, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

What's the seed and coordinates? (Press F3) --96.49.116.92 02:31, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

  • The randomly growing plants (flowers and tall grass) are growing in snowy biomes, removing the snow.--[iNf}INITE 13:22, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

The End

Doesn't seem to be any mobs, I thought endermen were meant to live here? Either a bug or they are not meant to be there. (I know "the end" is not finished, this may be why they do not appear for me?) RossRoss 17:16, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Cannot create a nether portal within "The End". Possible bug, maybe intentional. RossRoss 17:22, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

(Also a Sound Point) The "dark cave space" noises as I call it, are appearing in "The End". Not sure if it is intentional seen as the walls/void are there and it is picking up on that. RossRoss 17:30, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Ice doesn't seem to melt from putting torches/glowstone next to it in "The End"

Edit - In some instances it does melt, but the water does not flow from its original position. RossRoss 17:30, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Strange particle effect whilst dropping into the void of "The End". Again, maybe intentional, but it looked quite glitchy. RossRoss 17:37, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Out of memory

Falling to the Void will cause a "Out of memory" error.

I fell out of void couple of times in SMP, and didn't cause any problems. xPaw 15:00, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
: Oh sorry, i mean falling to the void while you are in "The ender". --186.92.198.109 15:06, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Sound

No chest noise RossRoss 15:40, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

sounds weren't for the pre versions... it isn't a bug but intentional holding off. also the other pre releases were soundless chests too. 96.13.106.143 16:44, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

In creative mode I double tapped to fly, and the rain noise seemed to stop when I went around 10+ high, I returned to ground to see if the sound came back and it didn't. RossRoss 17:38, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

In single player survival mode, there's no longer any sound played when placing a door. 178.174.128.240 15:23, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Items

Ender Eye doesn't seem to work properly, takes you no where (Been at this for like 15 minutes now) - It's just a normal cave system. Digging a massive hole right where it is landing (the 20 block radius) and nothing is here. (Needs confirming) RossRoss 15:52, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Uh i have seen jeb using it. It will fall not too far from where you throw it, it just points the way, does not lead directly to the stronghold. When it changes direction, then you know you are close, and if it looks like it is pointing to just one area, then you will know that's it!--Gil2455526 18:45, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
I have also seen Jeb use it in the livestream, but if I remember rightly, he was in 1.9 pre 3, not 4. And I went to the location where it sends me, as you have said, but when I dig down, there is no stronghold or obvious lead to one. RossRoss 19:21, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
Since the game has no way of actually checking for the nearest stronghold, it bases the location on the seed. If your map was generated in an older version of mc or if your seed has changed it might explain your problem. --71.11.193.135 02:34, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Maps cause saving chunks error when rendering a certain block. Not sure which. Lukesoccer21 16:18, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

They sometimes explode. And even then, doesent point to anything.

Jeb said they, sometimes, could go back to The End...--Gil2455526 18:45, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Anytime I use the Fire Resistance potion to jump into a pool of lava, fall damage is taken either when I swim out of the lava or let myself sink to the bottom of the lava pool. It's obviously fall damage because the damage I receive is equal to the damage I would receive by simply jumping off onto solid ground from the same height. Persephoneia 7:05, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Portal

Entering in a ender portal just take 1 miliseocond to enter, unlike the nether portal, not sure if its a bug. --186.92.198.109 15:56, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

I doubt it's a bug. If it took time to travel then you would just fall thru it and die in the lava being as the portal is horizontal and you fall thru it instead of vertical and you stand in it. 217.129.86.249 16:05, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Placing lava ontop of lava

You can place lava (And mabey water) ontop of other lava blocks. It is realy annoying in creative when filling in an area with lava and it creates a 2 high stack of it.

Multiplayer

If you die in Multiplayer, you ALLWAYS respawn in the skydimension (looks like it) - Shadow_CH 18:43 13th Oct (UTC)

  • Tried this out, died, respawned at my bed like normal 6:24pm PST 13th Oct
    • Never respawn by my bed for any reasons - anyways, we found an interesting fact. What I mentioned as skydimension was an area which really was a skydimension generation, but by walking to the coordinates the spawn was set to (for any reasons), it was connected to the "normal" overworld. So may this has to be specified (and / or bether researched by me). It's an 1.9 Pre3 World after the change to 1.9 Pre4. Will try to simulate this again as soon as I have time to set up another server in another environment. Shadow_CH 22:56 14th Oct (UTC)

Snowgolems still have no models Shadow_CH 18:43 13th Oct (UTC)
If you sleep in a bed, your spawnpoint will not be resettet (you still spawn on the initial world spawnpoint (except for the die / respawn bug into skydimension) Shadow_CH 18:43 13th Oct (UTC)
There are still no baby animals in multiplayer Shadow_CH 18:43 13th Oct (UTC)

Full-screen on Linux

Full-screen mode (F11) fails on all 1.9preX versions on Ubuntu Linux 11.04 with nVidia drivers: Instead of expanding to full-screen (as it did in 1.8.x and before), the window only expands to the top and bottom Gnome panels, hiding relevant content (including the hotbar) behind the bottom panel. Bigfootsbigfoot 20:36, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

Potion effect naming

Potion of Harming's text "Instant Damage" is missing the "I" at the end (Instant Damage I) to represent that it is level 1, however It's level 2 variant's title is correct (Instant Damage II)

Same with Potion of Swiftness (Speed (3:00)). Possibly not a bug? --10.0.0.124 09:38, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Experience

I got experience every single time I jumped, probably a bug ^^

Sun moving from south to north

Not only is the sun round now, but it appears to be rising in the south and setting in the north! Can someone confirm this?Captain Chaos 15:58, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Notch intentionally made the sun round and he tweeted "Aaaand now the sun rises in the east."(http://twitter.com/#!/notch/status/124414532847284224) meaning that was what he intended east and west to be. BaroqueWolf 20:19, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
What we consider east has always supposed to have been north (+Z is south, and +X is east). Third party mods and tools that indicate direction should update accordingly. Tahg 21:19, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

End portal block missing

It seems that the ender portal blocks are missing from the creative menue. I dont know if this is a bug or not but it seems like it should be there. Chow9984.19.96.96 16:35, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

Torch Issues

When I place a painting near a torch and its a big painting it will be behind the torch and the torch won't fall. I don't know if this is only in multiplayer but i think its in both.

I was destroying columns of gravel quickly by breaking them and immediately placing a torch underneath, however about 3 times the torch was just placed and the gravel balanced on it like it does if you had placed the torch first...

Silk Touch

Monster Spawners retrieved using the Silk Touch enchantment only spawn Pigs. I doubt notch would want to devalue breeding/food so it's somewhat major. --71.11.193.135 02:31, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Potions Brewing Crashing Bug

Well, When having 2 people view a brewing stand and one person puts a water bottle in the bottle section then puts a netherrwart to start the potion brewing, the person who was veiwing but not doing anything crashes, genericreason apparently.

Reproducing steps:

1. Get 2 People

2. Have one person get a water bottle and a netherwart, along with a brewing stand

3. Have both people interacting with the stand, then have one person start the brewing as explained above.

4. The person "viewing" the brewing (Who did NOT add anything to the brewing stand) Should crash.
