General Bugs

  • Sometimes opening inventory crashes the game, displaying the out of memory message. 79.103.58.219 17:30, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Lava continues to flow when it goes underwater. Pictures in the reference. [1] (DeadlyDuck 16:50, 12 September 2011 (UTC))
  • You can hit mobs through blocks.
  • When the mushroom is placed on another mushroom, the block under will turn into dirt.
  • Some blocks on platforms and waterways within a monster grinder seem to disappear over time. A mob grinder built on a new world after 1.8 pre-release left for several hours has platform blocks disappearing for no apparent reason. (most logical cause: endermen stealing blocks and dying resulting in dissappearing blocks)
  • The new textures can't be seen, they're shown as a pink coloured block, this happens rarely on laptops 195.84.40.132 09:04, 12 September 2011 (UTC)acmfan
  • When trying to use a bed at night, you may wake up at midnight without any mobs attacking you out of bed when they should - Teeman92
  • Trying to connect to an SMP server with "online-mode=true" causes the client to crash. setting "online-mode=false" seems to correct problem.
  • Leaving a world when its day or night then joining will reset time to the middle of the night. > Might be caused by the F6/F7 Time Scrolling feature, leaving and re-entering the world resets the time as if it hadn't been fast fowarded. Nameless023 04:55, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • If you right-click with a hoe on a dirt block that has a block above it the dirt block becomes Farm Land (Move to correct section if needed) - IlliXXion
  • Hunger Bar can be missing
  • Destroying a monster spawner causes sound to stop functioning, can only be fixed by completely exiting Minecraft and restarting it
  • Swords break wood planks faster than empty hand, but slower than Axe (Intentional?) Swords break anything faster than fists, but also take double damage for that. It is an intended feature and has been that way for some time. Nameless023 04:55, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Sometimes when smelting the game will Crash. - Kwarter
    • To be specific, the game will crash when you activate the furnace or alternatively deactivate it due to a Nullpointer-Exception in zz.class. There is a fix for singleplayer on minecraftforums.net in the 1.8 Section. - Anon
  • Also, randomly your items will Shift-Click in your inventory even if not holding Shift. Can be fixed by completely closing and restarting Minecraft. - Kwarter
  • Also kick's you from the game
  • Melon in 4x4 crafting grid produces melon seeds, pumpkin does not produce pumpkin seeds 75.151.144.109 14:54, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Mouse4/5 keys cannot be bound to any action (tested on Linux only)
  • Game won't load on any computer running OpenGL 1.2. A call to org.lwjgl.opengl.GL13.glClientActiveTexture() crashes the game on world load. This mainly affects machines with older video cards that can't be upgraded to OpenGL 1.3 (e.g., Macbooks w/ GMA 950, among others).Krues8dr 17:07, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Gameplay

  • all furnace crash glitches are from the furnace trying to make light, it wont happen outside during day time and wont happen if you cover your furnace completely in torches/put a torch on any face that isn't blocked. stop posting about furnace/smelting crashes (Xotano)
  • As known, when switching a flying player from creative to survival he/she will be stuck in fly mode. the only way to disable it then is to switch back to creative, or to fly down to the ground. The only problem with this method is that the game will calculate fall damage from the height where the player switched to survival mode, causing severe damage or death. bug fix suggestion: when switching to survival mode while flying, teleport the player down to the ground, causing no damage and disabling fly mode.
  • F6 used in Creative mode to fast forward the day/night cycle also works in Survival. (on the other page, it says "This may not be a bug." It IS a bug, as Notch listed this as a "Creative Mode Only" feature... Fallior 04:30, 12 September 2011 (UTC)Fallior
  • Ran forced update because of all the issues going on with my 1.8 update and now world reverted back to original Gameplay. World is in 1.8, but new features no longer available + no animals (survival mode...peaceful).
  • Needs a toggle fog button like in 1.7 by pressing the F key. The toggle fog key feature was removed on 1.8. It is official, Notch mentioned it (can't find where). Nameless023 04:55, 12 September 2011 (UTC) | As long as the game is full of memory leaks and slows down to an unplayable rate on slower computers - which can be solved temporarily by changing the render distance as it reloads the world - this can be considered as a problem. A "reload world" hotkey would do the trick anyway. - HavocS
  • When dropping an item, after picking it up you get it back in your inventory, but it looks like it stays on the ground.
  • The Achievement "Sniper Duel" does not work, meaning shooting from the top of the world and killing a skeleton at the bottom with a bow and arrow will not work
  • In a 1.7 world, some grass is a dark green color.
  • When putting items in a crafting table, then pressing inventory button to exit, the items fall out, but can't be picked up.
  • (Single Player Survival) Upon crafting tools, for example a stone shovel. When I exit the crafting table, the piece of stone I used is ejected and left on the floor. Can't be picked up, and prevents blocks being placed. Eventually decayed through reload or digging down I believe, but very annoying. Ibrulz 20:33, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
  • In survival mode, a creeper blowing up, and killing me, next to a skeleton spawner caused the game to crash.
  • In creative mode if you are half submersed in lava the lava texture vanishes.
  • If you visit the Nether in creative, you cannot make a new portal there and have to relight your old portal to get back.
  • Upon waking from a bed there will be a random aggressive mob even if your bed is in a shelter. (Workaround: Place blocks around the head of the bed.)
  • The opening/closing sound of a door does not appear in SMP when right-clicking. (Only when you have out your hands)
  • When putting things in a furnace fuel spot with a stack while right clicking, the game will display the "saving chunks" then crash. When you reopen the game, the furnace still works, but when the furnace stops burning, the game will again display "saving chunks" and crash again.
  • It happened to me only when I were burning trees to make charcoals with wooden planks. Didnt happen when I cook food with coal, or with wooden planks, nor for crafting glass, not for refining iron no matter night or day to what I've seen, when I use charcoal to burn woods it crashes the same, when the furnace stop burning with wood inside it crashes... I do believe it is the wood in the furnace that bugs.
  • Crashed when I smelted cobble on coal.
  • Crashed using charcoal and Iron Ore. Have not tested others.
  • After looking into this, the furnace fuel crash bug seems to happen when you use a duplicated item as fuel and leave the game. This bug was puzzling me, because i was using coal, charcoal, sticks, fences etc as fuel and nothing seemed to happen. But then I put a peace of duplicated charcoal into it and i noticed that i had an infinite furnace. After using it for a while I left the game, and when I returned, my game crashed whenever I used any fuel in the furnace. I tried making new furnaces and destroyed the ones I thought were bugged, but the problem still persisted. After a while I gave up and started a new world, and furnaces seemed to have started working again! At this point I went back into my previous world, but unfortunately furnaces still crashed the game when used. It would seem to me that after using duplicated fuel in the game, it corrupts your world in a way that bugs out smelting.
  • When a player presses F3 and Saves and quit to title the Lag Graph stays there on the screen.
  • Thats in 1.7* also. It would be nice if that disappeared when you go to the title screen.
  • F3 no longer shows a number above mobs of any type. This may be intentional to stop people from pressing F3 to find dungeons, cave systems, and strongholds. -It is intentional-
  • For some reason, You can get into a Minecart from 24 blocks away, allowing easy teleporting. (Only tried in creative, am I the first to notice this? Purerock100.)

--Doesn't work in survival, long distance click is a feature of creative mode.

  • When a player dies with a lot of experience your server becomes unplayable because of the lag. I can confirm this and have found that the more experience you die with the worse the lag will get. Also found that using pymclevel you can clean out all the orbs in a world while offline. most people will need to do this if your server starts to lag and everything else seems ok.
  • When charging, entering the water will drop you to normal speed. However, if you continue to hold forward, your are still registered as sprinting. This is evidenced by the increased knockback when hitting an enemy, just as if you hit them while sprinting.
  • The player stops sprinting once they run into a block.(Probably intentional)
  • When you destroy a block a ladder is sitting on, you will get the ladder back, creating a stack (creative). The same goes for all other blocks that require other blocks to not pop off, like doors, torches or hatches.
  • Placing a Leaf block in the Nether will cause the game to crash.
  • Sometimes when moving you will carry on going in the same direction even after trying to go another way: there will be a second delay before going the intended direction.
  • when using the crafting table and you exit it without taking the blocks out of it it will be on the ground but you can't take them up.
  • when using the crafting table and you exit it without taking the blocks out of it it some times will make the game crash
  • Occasionally, after death, dropped experience later picked up is infinite
  • When Sprinting over redstone repeaters, you will fall through the repeater.
  • When you place items in the furnace the game crashes (when you right click to place a specific amount instead of the whole stack, the game crashes when you put one in and when you restart minecraft the entire stack is gone, except for the one in the furnace)
  • When you drop more than one out of a stack of items, a couple of the items can not be picked up again.
  • When falling through cobwebs you can get infinite critical hits. Seems logical based on getting critical hits from attacking while falling, but also seems overpowered.
  • When sitting on a pig you get infinite critical hits.
  • you can get critical hits on minecarts, while sitting in them.
  • When swimming and pressing SPACE, the end of the sea blinks. (same while sitting in a boat apparently)
  • Changing items while the furnace is smelting doesn't reset the smelttime. (The arrow filling)
  • If you change time to night with f6/f7, you can sleep, but still night when you get up from bed.-
  • Using the middle mouse click to quick select blocks on your hot bar based on what you are looking at no longer works.
  • When you shoot an arrow an from arrow dispenser and the arrow hits a block then the arrow wont stay at the same place it shot at instead it goes to the top of the block, I tried this with wood and dirt.
  • Randomly "saves chunks" and causes game to crash. ~Leyf
  • Sleeping while the FOV is turned on will make you see inside your head.
  • walking in a doorway then shutting the door on yourself makes you see inside your head.(was in 1.7.3 too)
  • It is already mentioned you can't constantly punch a MineCart to destroy it, but its worth mentioning that its the same with boats.
  • It rains through mushrooms.
  • Mobs that fall to their death drop experience.
  • Random blocks in the nether will be darker than the blocks around them until broken and replaced.
  • Blocks in the nether will immediately reappear after breaking when in survival mode, making it impossible to mine or terraform.
  • In SMP (Not confirmed in SSP) rain falls through blocks, all the way to bedrock.
  • In Survival and in Creative mode. When "Sticky Pistons" are placed in front of or around stone blocks it cause them to not push/pull blocks properly. ( this was found in 1.7.3 and Pre-release of 1.8 see video for example. Youtube search "Minecraft - Secret Bookcase Door [Tutorial] (Like Jebs Door)" ) ~~D.Salv000
  • When walking through desert biomes, I sometimes come across invisible cactus's.
  • Endermen die when picking up cactus parts.
  • Ravines can generate through mines, NPV villages, dungeons and StrongHolds.
  • NPC Villages can spawn above water.
  • NPC Villages' Pathways are uneven and wierdly shaped.
  • NPC Villages need to have more light spawned.
  • Making Red Giant mushrooms taller (By 1 Block) will allow people to make better shroom houses.
  • In multiplayer PVP, Experience orbs, and spawning items, causes lag for everyone.
  • Endermen in Multiplayer and single, endermen dont freeze, and tp to you.
  • You cannot spawn individual/specific monster-spawners in creative mode. You cannot spawn any "new" blocks such as silver-fish or giant mushroom. -SirRamen
  • Abandon mines seem to be floating at points or don't connect well or are in blocked off areas. -onespect
  • When exploring in Abandon Mines sometimes the wood support blocks will be on fire but no ignition source is anywhere to be found. - Danger.107 05:43, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When an unburnable item (such as fences) are placed in a furnace the game crashes.
  • Fences cannot be opened by left click.
  • If you hit the upper vine, you don't get the ones unter it.
  • Mobs can be attacked through glass panes when part of their body renders through the pane. This may apply to other thin blocks as well, such as fences. (1.8 Pre-release). Dreoth 15:48, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Cannot destroy blocks in the Nether while in Creative Mode (1.8 Pre-release). Dreoth 16:00, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Falling through bedrock triggers a kick for "floating for too long" in SMP, instead of dying and respawning. Dreoth 17:00, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • During storms, Endermen will spawn in the rain, and die. I would imagine during a storm, Endermen spawns should be restricted to biomes that don't produce rain. Dreoth 17:25, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • While in creative mode, the switch from left-click to right-click on doors/switches is a confusing. I would suggest disabling instant-destroy for certain items (maybe three hits to destroy?) Dreoth 17:25, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Punching/Digging

  • Stone Bricks have the same damage durability vs tnt as regular stone but take much longer to mine.
  • Stone Bricks take just as long to mine with stone picks as they do with diamond picks
  • The animations for digging and hitting seem a lot faster when they are digging. The arm moves at a faster rate then it used to.
  • Digging a block while on a ladder takes a lot longer than normal- about 3/4 the same amount of time as underwater.

ImminentFate 08:42, 11 September 2011 (UTC)ImminentFate > Not a bug This is because while on a ladder the player is considered to be mid-air or floating like it happens while swimming, and so the game applies the mining speed reduction. Nameless023 04:47, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

  • When attempting to jump up a block occasional falls into the block and suffocates to death.
  • When going through a doorway slowly takes about half a heart of damage occasional.
  • Breaking blocks (especially when the game has been running for a while) sometimes does not update the visible geometry. The block physically disappears but graphically it's still there letting you walk inside a block. In some cases breaking the adjacent block updates the bugged one. Sometimes when you break a block the block under it becomes transparent letting the user see whats below. (this might be because of memory leak).
  • When attempting to break a block underwater while being physically above the water line doesnt display the breaking animation
  • You can't break a minecart by holding left-click down, but if you repeatedly left-click in rapid succession, the minecart will break.
  • when using toomanyitems in creative if you click anything in inventory it will crash the game. | a faulty mod is not a game bug, don't report these here
  • When punching a door (left-click) the door-sound will play and door will open/close. Right-clicking the door still opens/closes the door, but, however, will not play the door-sound.

Lighting

  • Paintings appear dark and black when placed. This was only tested in SMP creative mode. It is unknown if placing a torch next to it fixes this issue.
  • Trying to turn the Smooth Lighting off via 'Options' (from the title screen) results in a crash.

EDIT: This is caused by all graphical options trying to update the world as they are set. As the options screen on the title screen has no world to work on, the result is a NullPointerException. The error occurs on line 245 of the i.class, where it tries to get the class type of the world it's in, where a null is present.

  • Pigs jumping in the water appear to get darker and ligter.
  • Lighting appears bugged in areas underground. i.e sometimes light will be as bright as day, other times will be pitch black(preexisting)
  • Placing a block on the right side of a redstone repeater will cause the repeater to turn black
  • Torches and other sources of light don't work in the Nether.
  • Torches placed underwater immediately gets removed but the light from torch stay behind.
  • When at bedrock level, while lighting is lessened by each level, entering water will shift lighting back to normal. Tomahawkkk 04:07, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Stone Brick steps are stuck in shadow and do not respond to lighting changes around them
  • Lighting on stairs is bugged. The blocks on the sides appear unusually dark.
  • Glowstone behind glass appears dark.
  • Everything under glass in sunlight is black by me. Even if its one block thick. 3 levels makes little difference, looks blacker then black.[1] [2]
  • Lighting still may generate improperly when generating chunks quickly, except now it seems to mainly turn stair-like descents black. Sometimes if you place a torch and remove it to update the lighting, all affected blocks except the one with the torch will revert to black.
  • Monsters (esp. Spiders and Endermen) appear as bright white when they are just outside viewing distance in the fog when looked out of the corner of the eye ImminentFate 08:47, 11 September 2011 (UTC)ImminentFate
  • Lighting on repeater is dark. They should be lit up but they are not.
  • If you have fog on, you can see the Mobs lit up through the fog.
  • Placing a torch in or close to the water then removing that torch will keep its light and make some glowing water.
  • Pictures are very dark, and aren't lit smoothly (clearly visible on large pictures). Some pictures are completely black.
  • The top part of chests appear black when you put a torch above it: When you move your cursor around, it varies in darkness.
  • Chests sometimes appear dark. As the player looks around, the chest may return to it's actual color, but it will not stay like that.
  • If you look beneath a boat while riding it in third person, then you can see underwater. [3]
  • Underground torches dont emit light correctly. the block theyre on, the block under them and the block on the wall on the other side are super-bright, but all others become orange
  • Glowing redstone sometimes get darker depending on the surrounding light level. [4] Jmaasing 22:50, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Top stair of stone brick stairs has no light value
  • In oceans you can find lava lakes gone obsidian. They still glow.
  • Holes in the ocean floor, down to caves beneath, seem to produce their own light in Creative (fly over an ocean to see).
  • Naturally spawned torches in npc villages need to be broken and replaced for lighting to work properly.
  • On Fast graphics the lighting may turn the player extremely dark for a few seconds. Most common at spawn. (71.210.12.24 02:58, 12 September 2011 (UTC))
  • Confirmed, added to the page IPeer 12:25, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Torches placed in bright daylight actually cast shadows on obscured objects, causing them to appear very dark.
  • This isn't really a bug, but it is anoying. If you have costum terrain and have deep valeys etc, when standing in the valley the "you are deep underground so there is fog" fog goes on and it ruins your view of the valley even though there is a clear line to the sky. MaxArceus AtWarp 15:09, 12 September 2011 (UTC)MaxArceus_Atwarp 17:09 UTC+1
  • At sunrise and sunset, the intensity of the orange glow in the sky is dependent on facing the sun's direction; looking just slightly away reduces the orange intensity even in parts of the sky (and clouds) which were already in your field of vision. Rofang 15:23, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Underground brown mushrooms seem to give off a small amount of light 90.210.61.254 16:22, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Graphical

-Colour of top of grass block sometimes different from side of grass block. Screenshot:[5] NB: In a swamp biome at the time. JetpackAwaaay 17:16, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

-As when swimming, the horizon is flickering while you're travelling in a boat. The ocean is also flickering.

-breaking a block with 1 block of water above it will not show cracking animation. Most noticeable in swamp waters and rivers.

-sometimes after breaking a torch, the flame stays in the air for several seconds. May be lag.

-EDIT- This has been a bug since early beta.

-When a wolf is in water at night, it turns black, but returns to normal after leaving the water. Pacha 23:44, 11 September 2011 (UTC)Pacha he page tidy and help com

-Endermen and spiders when viewed from afar at short or tiny fog setting at sunset/midnight/rise do not scale with the fog at the same rate as the terrain, i.e. they're the color of the sky while the the terrain is still dark. They're reverse silhouettes.

  • (They glow white) (slight edit by Xotano)

-spiders sometimes just turn fully red when you hit them, and their sprite disappears while receiving damage

-When Sprinting on coloured wool blocks, the sprinting particle effect is that of white wool, not the coloured block. (white particles for red wool etc) -If you place a block in front of a vine the vine appeares unter the block.

-Your ocean horizon might be pink, if you look at it with pressed "F3" button - MegaDamnAge

-when trying to turn on advanced openGl from the main screen i experience a crash. - James4832

-same here. to clarify: turning OpenGL from off to on makes the interface to disappear and a few seconds later the screen turns to black. - xbluemonkx Graphical options from the Options menu in the title screen have this problem. They try to check the world type they're in, even though they are in no world. NullPointerException happens. See the Smooth Lighning option issue above for more details.

  • Leather pants do not animate with legs (pants stay in the standing position while the legs are in the boat position) in the inventory while riding a boat. I haven't tested it with the other armor types yet.
  • The different types of wood all have the particle effects of the normal log, like pre-1.7. All other damage-value blocks still have correct particle effects. -Andrew0085

sometimes the chests bug out and the lighting screws up and they go black. Occasionally stays permanently dark just a quick relog fixes it. and friendly mobs aren't spawning near light/torches at night

  • the chests lid and base are z-fighting when closed - most noticeable when close or a texture pack is used

-(for custom texture pack support) enderman_eyes.png and spider_eyes.png ignore alpha channel, now they add color instead. For example, #00FFFFFF background will make all mob look white despite of its transparency. It worked okay in 1.7.

-I concur with the above post; I'm working on a texture pack and my custom eye textures for the spider and enderman are causing both mobs to be tinted white and glow in the dark, even though I know the backgrounds of the eye textures are completely transparent. Here is a screenshot

--I'm having the same problem as above and hope this gets fixed in the final release.

-Sometimes when I am digging the floor becomes transparent for a couple of seconds so I can see the underground

-Existing light sources created by npc houses do not give off light when the sun sets, can be corrected by placing a light source near it.

The stone stairs have a graphical glitch. the actual stair turns black or brown doesn't change when you place a torch or anything near it.

-some giant mushrooms in the nether are invisible

-Chests placed before updating go black once updated, can be solved (sometimes) by placing a block next to them.

-Inventory items are much lighter. This bug was present in a recent update before it was eventually fixed in a bug fix sub-update.

-Large Chunks of blocks are invisible but still there and can see through to lava and caves, also these blocks when dug through are all very dark black and wont light up with torches. These also occasionally reset and become bright again.

- (Workbench in corner. Stone behind it, and glass panes on one side.) Glass pane beside workbench forms a "T" shape (top view) and perpendicular glass connects to the workbench. Reappears each time workbench is placed.

______________ -Vines on tree's stuffed up. vines hang, but are in "blocks" and are grey, breaking them just makes them disappear.

- Flying is like walking on ice, you slide when the momentum tranfers.

~CeaseToExist. _____________

- On ocean floor and or river beds blocks seem to spawn uniformly, (Very symmetrical) They also spawn in more than one in a very close space. (71.210.12.24 03:04, 12 September 2011 (UTC))

- Very laggy on low end PC's, cuts frame rate in half w/ massive lag spikes that are extremely consistent and impossible to get rid of. (Not sure if that is because of all the new elements, or if it is a performance bug like in 1.6) (71.210.12.24 03:04, 12 September 2011 (UTC))

-Regarding the problem of enderman and spider eye textures causing those mobs to be tinted white in game, I found that problem can be solved by making the backgrounds of the eye textures completely black instead of transparent. I don't know if this is an intentional change or not but it seems to work.

- Sometimes a block will be visisble after being broken. It can be walked through, and if gotten in the same space as the player's head, it will act like an x-ray block.

  • The chest skin graphic goes completly black (like a sillhouette) when looking in a certain direction.

- If flowing water cross flowing water, that are 1 level lower, the lower level water gets the same high as the upper level water (I think the picture does describe it better): http://i.imgur.com/o6lCL.png --SanAndreasP 16:28, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Stability

  • After a while of playing the Experience orbs are built up to a point when you die and get them or someone else obtains them the server can over load and crash. Error Will be placed in here once i can get a hold of it. ~super_6_1
  • It may just be my PC, but it appears that one second before your food bar goes down a little, you get a FPS spike, going down, very annoying. 71.196.105.174 22:28, 11 September 2011 (UTC)Dilwolf
  • Maybe it's just my PC, but the 1.8 version of minecraft gives launcherFrame error on startup under linux. 1.7.3 worked fine.
  • Pressing F in-game no longer alters the render distance setting
  • This is intentional.

  • Serious Lag: when a player dies, all their experience orbs drop, causing minecraft to run ridiculously slowly (30 mins for a 30 second journey) and massive lag for servers, in one case a player was 5-10 minutes behind everyone else block-place and chat wise.
  • The performance can be tempermental by a drop in the smoothness of the gameplay E.G on the 1.7.3 most pc's could play the game on best graphics but on 1.8 you are unable to play it like this because something is stopping the game working as well as it used to.

The "saving chunks" image that apears after cooking something in a furnaces sometimes appears when jumping into water or playing in water. DefianceUnstable 22:14, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

When i create a server and host it, when players join it will lag for a while but then goes. Also i noticed that people who join my server tend to keep disconnecting and then come back and tell me "that lag made me disconnect". Thanks Assim

Memory

  • If the server is started with Xmx > Xms, the server will list the free memory % as if the maximum memory was equal to the maximum the server has so far consumed, rather than how much is actually free. -Raptor2213
  • When you go in unexplored area the Memory usage increases and does not go down. It seems its loading the new area into the RAM, but not unloading area you are not in, so the RAM usage just goes up. -kookster
  • Memory Leaks are quite frequent, and RAM usage is quite high. Running 1.8 with Fast graphics and near fog on a PC with 4GB's RAM and i3 Processor with 512MB dedicated graphics is a lot laggier than running 1.7.3 on a Laptop with Fancy and Far Graphics with only 1GB RAM and Centrino Processor with 128MB Shared graphics. • Sometimes when you take a screenshot it will overload the memory and crash the game

--76.79.107.107 03:35, 10 September 2011 (UTC) Actually, that depends on your computer. That happens in 1.7.3 and earlier too. So, you need to free some space up.

Oh, okay then, I thought it was a bug because I was able to easily in 1.7.3, I mean, I had over 50 screenshots

Well it did say it could have been a bug. So it could be a bug maybe or it might just be your memory but I would still look in to see if it is just a bug.

Actually, I get SERIOUS lag from the pre-release. when I go to new places, the game just stays all laggy, like you said. --fireglo450

Tell me if my computer is screwy or what, but I changed the time in survival. Everything went fine, then a saving chunks screen. This happened also when I was in my mine. I heard a sound, and crashed. Saving chunks = memory, right? Call me oej98.

#1 You are not supposed to be able to change the time in survival, this is a bug (You aren't really 'surviving then, are you?)
#2 Yes, this "saving chunks thing IS a bug, and most likely not your computer

  • when i play 1.8 it lags alot almost unable to play without lag

- Out Of Memory Error -

The Standalone 1.8 Minecraft exe very often hits OOME whereas when I play Minecraft in the Browser (1.7.3) I have no stability problem at all. System is Vista 64 12Gbyte, Browser IE 9 32 bit, latest 32 bit java from java.com ver 6 update 27.

I had the same trouble with the 1.7 exe that's why I played 1.7 in Browser only.

What seems to help is reduceing distance setting from Far to Normal and selecting F11 (full screen) right when the game choose menu apears and not later. Toggling full screen window and back leads to crash (not so with browser) Before print screen pressing escape (menu/saveing) then go back helps else I often have that print screen (F2) crash also. Crashing was especially often in the first hour playing when discovering new areas.

- I've seen a noticeable improvement by swapping to x64 JRE from x32 on my 64 bit machine. However, now MC often gobbles up 1-1.4GB RAM, which is less than ideal --Powareverb 08:29, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

this happens when you close minecraft (had only MC running, and only closed that) http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/2331/afterclosingminecraft.png

I tested this bug. After clicking on my world, it took about one and a half minute to crash. Without moving! I looked on my task manager and the java-program needs more and more RAM until everything is used and it crashes. It's not in special situations, it's everytime and everywhere. -- Mike --85.180.119.132 09:53, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

  • While in creative mod if you go to the Nether and bury yourself in sand, it causes the sand and lava you buried yourself in to become invisible, and a weird mask like thing shows up covering your view partly. This happens every time you bury yourself in sand.

if you find a stronghold while its raining, sometimes the rain comes through the cracked stone bricks on the roof

  • Walk around a little, dig a lil, and try taking a screenshot. Game goes to "Saving chunks" then crashes "out of memory". i never had this problem before, i assigned 1,5 gigabytes of memory to minecraft. (win xp sp2, 2gb ram, 2,8ghz pIV)

^^ some of the memory issues may be because of some common memory allocation issues. When using the .jar Minecraft client the .bin to run it should be similar to this:

java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp Minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame

When allocating additional memory the Mxs should not be greater than the Xmx and the Xmx should not be greater than 1/2 of your total system RAM on older systems (DDR2 or earlier). With high end systems that use a graphics card with over 1Ghz on-board memory and DDR3 Ram or higher on the system board you can allocate more if you choose to; However, the bottleneck then becomes the system bus and the number of threads/channels the CPU can process. --Illian.Amerond 11:48AM(PST) September 11, 2011

  • Slighty random bug but I've done it a few times, open up a furnace, click/right click on planks and it goes to the saving chunks screen with "saving chunks" in grey, Does not create world corruption, it happens more often when a log is in the top furnace and you right click to put a plank in the bottom part of the furnace where coal goes. 12/09/2011 (GMT) Demonitrax

Using a Bucket on a Cow works fine for me in SP, did not test milking a Cow in SMP. -- Forest Hale 2011-09-11

  • When I punch a pig, the sides of their heads flash white.
Pre-existing Bugs

Diamond armor gives infinite health. Any mob or any action agaisnt you that could hurt you will not lower your health with (full?) diamond armor.

^ With this as i have seen and tested if you have full armor, health and food the health is taken away but the food keeps it regenerated to make it look like this.
but your armor goes away. Once The food begins to be used the health no longer regenerates.

Since I can't edit the main page, there was an issue with my server having bad performance, upon loading the map in single player I was greeted with several hundred cows bringing my pc to a crawl and making the save unplayable on single or multiplayer, never had this issue with 1.7.3 or below

  • Endermen kind of respond

If you walk up to an enderman and look at it, it will not teleport to you, only turn and stare at you while the black particles float around it.

Non-Pre-existing Bugs

I have seen endermen alot in my server for 1.8 and they just stand around. You can look directly at them and they just turn around and look at you. The black teleportation particles float around him but he will only react when you hit him. - Very known bug that Endermen are just like Wolves on 1.8 servers.

On my private server, Animals don't despawn, but also don't respawn. This is an issue. I don't want all animals to be extinct and have to live off of bread.

This is intentional. you have to generate new animals. also , in 1.9 they will be able to breed

all animals are randomly getting stuck in tree tops when the chunks load

When you anger an Enderman, and you look at it while it's chasing you, it will stop until you look away as if you hadn't angered it yet. (Might be intentional?)

  • Monsters spawning in lit areas

I have seen monsters spawning in very well lit areas at night. I have a world with a big city me and my friend have built and we have placed lights everywhere to ensure no monsters would spawn in it, but when I walk a certain distance away from any lit area monsters start spawning in there. This may be happening because of the glowstone we used to light it up.

I am sure this is a bug because I have never seen it happen on 1.7 .

  • Squids occasionally spawn w/o water and inside blocks.
    File:Bug.png

    3 squids inside sand.

Peaceful animals spawning during the night time in Creative mode. (Note: Either they are spawning or they don't despawn like in 1.7 and before)

  • When i hit an untamed wolf when i am near a tamed wolf, my tamed wolves seem to be angered, yet they are still sitting and jumping at me like spiders.

derp.

  • Spiders fade to white if you walk away on small render distance (Confirmed, also happens with Endermen.).
  • Animals are spawning in bodies of water, even in deep oceans. Dreoth 15:56, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Weather

Rain sometimes glitches through solid blocks. Inde97 08:22, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

--- I've seen this as well. When I logged off and back on during a storm, it began raining in the cave I had mined out previously, but not in areas mined afterwards. (Talrose 05:40, 11 September 2011 (UTC))

The rain through the blocks

--Just after sunrise it started to rain and my minecraft crashed. anyone else had this problem? EDIT: It was just my fernace turning off and crashing. obviosly known bug

--Looking into a desert while it is raining will make rain appear in the desert. Looking back from said desert into the rainy biome will not show the rain (but the splash particles will still be there). Landmine 16:42, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

--It seems to me that you only see rain while you are inside it, outside it can be heard but not seen. I found this over a river going between 2 desert biomes, while in the river, it was raining, but on the shore I heard the sound but could not see it

--Rain going through roof of dirt and in deep parts of cave. It seems to happen only in the area one spawns. I left the house and logged off, then on. I went back in the house and the rain was no longer going through the roof.(Version 1.8) 9:53am, 11 Sept. 2011 (EST)

Linux Bugs

- Sometimes you can only turn about 180 degrees till you opened the menu once (also in 1.7.x, 1.7.3)

- Sometimes some keys "stuck" and you move on until you press them again (very old one!)

- Some Librarys like lwjgl and libjawt are old. Minecraft stops working on (orcale!) java 7 on most linux machines. Fixable by running "sudo ldconfig /opt/java/jre/lib/amd64/" before every start of Minecraft.

Window Panes

They have much the same glitch as glass did when weather began, they do not block the noise of the rain as the other blocks do.

Rain and clouds

Rain doesn't fall through clouds. So when you are under a cloud it is dry.

This may not be a issue as a mistake from the fact that it does not rain on the sand. otherwise it is not a problem with all users. DefianceUnstable 22:23, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Shears Bug

When you are placing a torch under water the torch pops of, but the light is still there!

When using shears on tall grass, you can aquire a placeable, unnamed tall grass block.

Vines Bug

When trying to place a vine on another vine block causes you to lose a vine but no new vine block (or any other block) appears.

When placing a vine in the Nether, the crashes? (Confirmed on SMP, untested on SSP.)

When Cutting vines with a sheers if you cut one higher then the lowest, expecting 2 vines to drop like it would with a cactus one one vine drops.

Vines will continue to spread indefinitely. This can cause a structure with a few vines to become a complete mess over time.--Samp20 19:56, 11 September 2011 (UTC) File:Vinesovergrown.png >This and the smelting crash bug are the most annoying bugs in the Pre-Release. Wool Bug

After using some wool and reaload minecraft some blocks are deleted.

Sprite Bug

I wasn´t able to pick up planks which dropped on the ground after i closed the craftingtable. A single block remained, after I received all my other blocks.

>I had the same problem also. And my game crashed after those "unpickable" <insert crafting material here> remained on the ground. The only way to remove the problem currently would be to use a lava bucket.

>Same problem here, I tried to craft a pickaxe and the extra sticks that i had in the crafting area were impossible to pick up again after I closed the crafting table.

if you don't take the items out of the crafting grid before you close the inventory it causes the items to be stuck on the floor. Although you can pick up the items the sprites still remain until restarted the game.

  • I to had the same problem, but it was with wood. Execpt If i dropped all my wood i got an infinite stack of wood.

I had this problem several times. It happens if you exit the crafting table with items still on it. The items then are picked up but ghost items are left. Note: the ghost items can be moved by placing blocks

  • I had the same bug, but the block kept going back to me and was infinite,so i could pick it many times,it was with wood

Put any item in crafting table and press esc and it will drop item pick them up and if you keep right clicking it gives you more and more of that item

when i crefta eny thing and forget to clera my tabel i will drop all my items and i will collect them and 1 will be left on the floor an uncolectebul i dont know why this happens

by brian.warner Sometimes the items you put into a crafting table fall to the ground and become un-pickupable.

attention this is a duplication bug, credit goes to Antvenom

It appears when you craft something, leave materials in the grid, and exit crafting, double the amount of items will drop on the ground. you can pick up half, but the other will stay there for for a long time. When you walk to these "ghost" versions of, you will pick up an unusable version of it, that you can not place/use. The items however will stay there still. - catron44

The Problem with both the above is that the crafting inventory, upon close, reads the items twice while droping them. This bug can be solved easily by forcing the crafting table to clear out once it checked the item twice. Why it is checking the item twice, I wasn't able to find out. The easiest solution is placing a clear item code (this.a.a(k,null);) after the code (line 50 of uf.class). However, the double reading is the real problem.

The unusable version can be crafted with. You will pick up exactly one as long as there are none of that item in you inventory. I once duplicated a diamond, put the original back into my chest and crafted a full set of armor with the duplicate. This is great fun, but still needs to be adressed. -AbroLinx

^^ i'm 99% sure that the item duplication bug and the extra sprites bug are connected. they are listed on the wiki. --Nl37tgt 17:56, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Though the sprite / item duplication bug has been mentioned repeatedly, the page doesn't document all the details. People have been saying that you can't use the items (or can only use them once) and that they don't stack. However, you can craft with them, and the crafting results stick around. (At least on Mac OSX). If you drop one iron ingot off a crafting table, you'll automatically pick it up. If that was your only iron ingot, it will form a new stack (of 1). If you then re-open the crafting table, and place that ingot in the grid, you'll pick up another single new ingot, which you can put in a different space of the grid. After nine clicks, you can turn them into an iron block. That iron block is now a real iron block, which can be placed as normal. More importantly, you can then place that iron block into the grid and escape out of the crafting table. The iron block falls to the ground twice. Re-open the crafting table, and you'll have an infinite supply of iron blocks. Each such block takes just two clicks to turn it into 9 iron ingots, all of which stick around and behave as normal. So it's a relatively fast process to get yourself a next-to-infinite supply of iron. I've done the same thing with sticks and coal to make a huge number of torches. My tiny starting island's only resources were one tree, one vein of coal and a two-block micro-vein of iron, but I've now got dozens of everything you can make from them. I'd say this is the single most game-breaking bug of 1.8, and needs to be top priority for debugging. --r_b_bergstrom

  • (sometimes) When item is dropped and then picked back up the image will still show on the ground, despite that item being added to your inventory.

Invisible Blocks

Cobble blocks turn invisible when placed beside cobble stair blocks.

When placing a fence next to a vine, the section of vine right next to the fence will disappear.

Rotten Flesh

  • If you are poisoned by Rotten Flesh it does no damage. Only your food bar is green and It doesn't seem to effect anything(Except hunger goes down quicker). I believe you take more damage when poisoned.

^perhaps the faster hunger depletion is the only effect that was intended?

  • After eating Rotten Flesh and getting "poisoned", eating another Rotten Flesh will not reset the timer on the "poison". In this way you can just eat another right before the timer is up and your back to full hunger without being "poisoned".

Mushroom Bugs

  • Mushrooms can be placed on every block, even on bedrock. If you use bonemeal on them the ground block becomes dirt. If you then "dig" the giant mushroom away you can dig the dirt and place a mushroom on the bedrock block below and further. With this it would be possible to come under the world without using Creative Mode or hacks.
  • When two mushrooms are placed next to one another, they are both are destroyed, leaving the dropped versions on the ground. However any mushrooms next to the destroyed ones remain planted. This also rarely happens when the mushrooms are generated next to each other. -> This happens when the light level of the area where the mushrooms were placed is too high or in direct contact with sunlight, making the mushrooms instantly pop out. The reason why it has a chain reaction effect is because placing or removing any block will update the chunk and in this case the nearby adjacent mushrooms will recognize their location as invalid (light levels too bright) and pop out. This is NOT a bug, it's part of the game mechanics. Nameless023 04:35, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When there is a mushroom present next to a (possible only wood) block on the same level as the mushroom, removing the block sometimes causes the mushroom to be destroyed. Read my explanation above Nameless023 04:35, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • When there are 2 or more mushrooms generated next to one another (forming a row, square, etc), destroying one will cause a chain reaction, destroying mushrooms adjacent to the manually destroyed one, then destroying any mushrooms adjacent to those, and so on. Read my explanation above Nameless023 04:35, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I have found brown mushrooms generated on tree branches in forest areas (that was the case before 1.8).
  • If you use bonemeal on a mushroom, you can make a big mushroom. Then, if you plant a mushroom on the top of the mushroom you have already made, and use bonemeal on that, when you break the second one you have made at the base it turns into dirt, instead of still being the top of a mushroom.
  • Mushrooms do not appear to be spreading (SMP, unconfirmed SSP) - After observation, it seems to only apply to red mushrooms in both SMP and SSP. Can anyone confirm?
  • When you grow mushroom with bonemeal during the rain, it block can pass the rain water
  • Using Bonemeal on a Mushroom in a dark area, such as a cave, where there is not room for it to grow, the mushroom block will emit light.
  • In Creative Mode, when a mushroom is placed on top of another mushroom, they duplicate.
  • When growing a mushroom using bonemeal, the block under it will turn to dirt. Players can remove bedrock that way.
  • Mushrooms grown with bonemeal into giant mushrooms will not be destroyed by fire (possibly a feature?)
  • I've found mushrooms in a cave where the lighting of the blocks they're on are slightly pink, out of sync with other blocks next to them
  • When you grow a mushroom with bone meal, you may be trap inside it, thus will cause you to suffocate.

Stick Bugs

When you use a stick, the icon stay in your inventory, and they cant be used. You can drop them, but you cant take them.

I got a bug with ALMOST infinite sticks. Similar to the infinite maps glitch in SMP during 1.7.1 (or .2???)

- If you drop sticks and take them again, the icon of the sticks is still on the buttom, but you got the sticks in your inventory.

(this is from the duplication bug mentioned a million times not a new bug)

Glass Bugs

  • When you destroy a block that a glass pane is connected to, it becomes distorted.
  • When a glass pane is put adjacent to a door, it wont expand properly.
  • Glass panes don't connect to stairs properly.
  • Glass panes don't connect to double stone slabs properly.
  • Glass panes shouldn't connect to leaves. (Why not?)
  • When glass is held in your hand it looks hollow.
  • Glass panes disappear when a tree grows next to it.

Cactus Bugs

  • If the cactus is on floating sand, and the sand falls, the cactus stays floating in the air.

Dropped item bug

  • When digging a 2 deep hole, throwing items in it, and filling the hole again, you won't be able to pick the items up again.

(Ummm maby because there buried? with glass blocks item stay in instead of poping out like other solid blocks do, this bug has been like this for at least 1.7.2 or earlier DefianceUnstable 22:48, 11 September 2011 (UTC) )

Melons / Stems

  • When placing the stems in a chess pattern and a melon grows all surrounding stems will connect to that melon. So you only recieve 1 melon from 4 stems at its worst case
  • Melon stems will attach to Pumpkins and Pumpkin stems attach to melons.

Loosing Items due to XP Items on Dead

  • I died in considerable safe spot (worked out room) with a lot of items and XP. When I hurried and returned to it to pick up the items.. it took several seconds where it gathered the XP back but no items where collected. All the items were gone. It seems to me it was due to the large amount of "XP-Items"

Ice Blocks

  • Wend they melt from torches the water doesnt flow.

-I'm still playing 1.7.3 and it does it there too, so probably it's an old bug -I believe Notch changed Ice Blocks, they don't flow water anymore.

Door bugs

  • Doors do not make a sound if opened by right clicking. They do make a sound if you left click.
  • doors spawned in strongholds float in mid air if there is no block underneath it until you open it then it updates and pops off. this is related to the under ground caverns and ravines etc. spawning through a stronghold EXAMPLE DefianceUnstable 22:37, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Tree Bugs

  • Cutting down trees with an axe will cause the item to drop, but the texture remains. one can move trough the texture but it doesnt go away after relight. (Tested with stone axe on Birch and Oak) (This is due to the new and improved 'memory-leak' bug)
  • This is a pretty minor bug but I've encountered a few trees that have spawned in water, on sand. (This is intentional)
  • Trees spawn under 1 block of water in swamps. However, trees cannot be planted under a single block of water. Intentional or oversight?
  • Normal Trees spawn in swamp biomes
  • Tree's leaves can still grow into other blocks replacing them. 88.72.195.184 16:56, 12 September 2011 (UTC) BloodyRain2k
  • Swamp biome had a tree that the 3rd block up was a mushroom and the 4th block was the rest of tree.Finch9 05:25, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Map bugs

  • The player icon on the map is slightly off balance. (already since 1.7)
  • A created map does not start a new "center" and create a new map- it simply copied the previous map exactly
  • When multiple players have the same map (usually through creative mode, map_0), they all show up on it, but all the pointers point the same direction, which is the direction the player looking at the map is facing. Mouseas 06:48, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Wheat bugs

  • Upon opening a saved world all former blocks of wheat are now iron bars.

Boat bugs

  • When breaking a boat in creative mode, you still get some wood blocks and sticks.
  • In survival, if blocks underneath a boat get pushed upwards by pistons, the player in the boat dies immediately.

  • Traveling a rather long way with a boat and then "parking" on half-steps with that boat will instantly kill you. like this: www.abload.de/image.php?img=2011-09-12_14.23.388uxj.jpg

89.15.7.26 12:43, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Painting bugs

  • Paintings can randomly disappear from walls(Unconfirmed in survival mode).
  • When placing a painting, if it is against the ceiling, it will appear black.
  • In creative mode, if you try to break a painting, it will occasionally break the block behind.

Rail bugs

when placing water on a rail you will not receive the rail block

EDIT:if the water falls directly on to it. (does have to be a source block) ADD: This also occurs with redstone, small, mushrooms, torch's, repeaters, etc. this may be on purpose, but if so its really annoying. (This basically only occurs if the block is updated from above, not from the side.) DefianceUnstable 22:56, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

World Generation

When you teleport to someone in multiplayer game, it takes about 30sec-1min for the world to load.

THIS. It's a very bad issue because if you teleport someone now far away it takes them up to 2 minutes to load, even if they disconnect and reconnect. It's terrible. Doesn't seem to happen to people that are hosting the server on the same computer they are playing on.

World Generation

  • Survivor world generated with seed "seedy" (109314088) never has passive mobs spawn.

The game will print the errors "Unable to find spawn biome" and "Placed stronghold in INVALID biome at (6, 49)". Propably because near the starting area is just one kind of biome.

  • Noticed a bug where location x:0 y? z:0 sets a world chunk discontinuity on multiple random seeds. the main effect of this bug is that there is a dicontinuity separating clearly the terrain between x+/x- and z+/z- leaving the general + coord quarter side of the map clearly visible without coordinates.
  • Old worlds updated to 1.8 will have bug with new generated chunks. At the border between old and new chunks, grounds and biomes doesn't correspond at all. [Edit: This is not surprising. The world generator algorithms have been completely changed, not just altered slightly to add new content. Mouseas 06:51, 12 September 2011 (UTC) ]
  • Floating sand blocks (and perhaps others, as well) may appear after world generation. [Floating sand[7]]
  • Roses are not generating in 1.8pre [[8]]
  • Square discontinuities in desert biomes: A chunk will generate in the middle of a desert and will be topped with a checker board pattern of grass & sand.
  • trees that spawn when the world first generates are sometimes missing random stem pieces.
  • Generated mine shafts are not continuous and therefore look very sloppy and unprofessional. One would expect mine shafts to have "clean" connections to other mine shafts encountered. Instead intersecting mine shafts can be above, below, half-way, etc. My guess is that generation is happening in parallel threads instead of sequential, causing shafts that encounter each other do so under very awkward conditions. This is not an issue while playing, but it does look bad and might be important for the XBox release.

Spawn Bug

  • I've generated 5 1.8 worlds, in which my spawn locations have varied from the very edge of a high cliff side, on top of trees(3 times) and once on a lone island surrounded by a seeming never ending ocean.(Not a bug, just an unlucky man)

How is this a bug at all? they just got rid of the always spawn on sand idea

  • I just spawned in an underground cave/lake completely surrounded by stone.
  • In two of the three games I played I have spawned on treetops, in the other game on a high stone mountain peak that I had to fall off and take damage in order to get pick making materials.
  • I generated multiple worlds with the same seed, and spawn in the same exact location each time. The game is not varying the location of the spawn in a world (mentioned at the beginning of my let's play: watch?v=1AqmvLZUBP4)

^ I'd consider this a good change, not a bug. Same seeds should give the same gameplay experience, and this also shall include the spawn location, imo.

  • I have generated a fresh world, blank world seed and everything, and my starting spawn point was inside a dungeon, complete with spider spawner.
  • Not a new "bug".
  • Spawn points can sometimes be generated mid-ocean, causing a rather long (and annoying) swim in a random direction in hopes for shore. Sometimes, this distance can be long enough to delay the game from day to night when starting a new world.

* Location of Respawn after death changes upon reloading the same world or restarting the server. Spawn points are not consistent.

Mine/Village/Stronghold bugs

  • Abandoned mines are spawn too often and too large. (maybe they should be smaller or generate in different sizes or not)

^I think that a bug has caused mines to be either to big or to common. I have made several pre 1.8 worlds and dug down for about 3 mins to find one. Makes finding diamonds pointless because they're common in the chests. Also mines are also huge! I used about 7 stacks of torches lighting one! Is this a bug, or am I just lucky to find lots of 'em?

^No the they are Over generating. Using the X-ray texture pack I noticed that they where absolutely everywhere there must be some kind of bug that is causing them to over spawn. and they just seem to go on forever

^Yeah pretty much every ravine have its own abandoned mine system. Even if that is not bug, I think they are waaay too common, in contrast to strongholds which are waaaaay too rare. But on the other hand, chests inside are not that common anyways. And I have not got anything more valuable from them (only lapis, coal etc.).

^Too many mineshafts have floating wood blocks, not connected to any other blocks. They should spawn only on stone, otherwise they look awkward and as if the spawn independently of the surrounding land.

- I have several times encountered mineshaft generating on top of each other, like it has 2-4 levels, but with no floor, because they are so close to each other, the level takes away half of another mineshaft.

I agree with pretty much everything said here, I also think mineshafts are slightly to common, and that 1-stronghold-per-world is too rare, especially given how worlds are nearly infinite. 115.70.37.198 14:34, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Stronghold not Generating Correctly

Underground strongholds seem to be generated before mineshafts. The result is often totally messed up strongholds because they are penetrated by random mineshafts.

- A group of 6 dirt blocks were floating about 30 blocks in the air.

^Floating block spawns are not usually bugs, and are quite common with some seeds.

  • NPC Village - Doors at wrong level
File:Door generated underground.png

If a building generated next to a hill or at the edge of a hill, the buildings door may be inaccessible. This village's prominent cobblestone building was inaccessible until we took out a window. This is probably also related to the other bug where village roads can be placed across this terrain awkwardly.

  • In NPC Villages all houses' door's of one building are at the same level, so that you can't reach all from the ground. Also some steeps spawn in the gravel roads instead of on them, and uneven roads(one side is a block higher).

[[9]] [[10]] [[11]]

  • In NPC Villages somtimes parts of a building will not spawn like a wall and if you walk into it you take damage.
  • Sometimes they villages be placed on the terrain but a cave will be in the middle of the village so parts of houses or roads will be incomplete or goofy-looking. Houses are sometimes above or below the terrain so that doors open into ground or mid-air. Roads don't always form properly so they appear to be just blocks placed at random heights in a line. (Talrose 08:17, 10 September 2011 (UTC))

A similar thing happens in or near deserts where cacti can be found with blocks on top of them or on blocks that they shouldn't be. Shenaniguins 13:32, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

^Example of this is cacti on top of fences etc. DefianceUnstable 23:15, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

  • NPC Houses are split in the middle (Seed: 21 X67 Y71 Z533)

[12] [13]

  • NPC Village generated doors and torches not behaving properly

^Discovered unknown bug that gets you stuck when standing next to the door at some houses in villages not frequently occurring seems to be more common on servers than in single player? might be invisible torches tested on two private servers and on single player with friends sadly forgot to take any picture of this needs more looking into.

  • In NPC Villages, while on a SMP (Hamachi) the doors to some houses only open halfway, blocking the doorway from being used. will upload a picture as soon as i can. - Emperor_Nick(MC LOGIN)
  • In some NPC villages, the gravel paths extend into areas well outside the actual village, seemingly leading to nowhere. Another glitch is where the gravel on the paths is placed at the wrong height. Sorry, i have no pictures at the moment. - burn_the_rope (MC LOGIN)
  • In NPC villages, the torches doesnt always light up, and you have to replace them manually.

(Don´t know if its also like that for abandoned mineshafts, but i think its world-generated torches that doesnt always work)

  • Ravines spawn underground, resulting in very large tall caves that spawn huge amounts of monsters. This also spawns in the same place as mines and dungeons, resulting in cobwebs and wooden arches and even monster spawners floating in mid-air.
  • Spawned mines overlap one another, resulting in floating arches, broken tracks in pick-up-able form and large wooden platforms with chests on them.
  • Mines will also overlap dungeons, resulting in this:

^ That does not seem undesirable. Dungeons are usually hard enough to run into as it is, so having mineshafts run through them seems like an improvement.

  • Spawned village farms, can spawn up a hill.
  • In mines, frequently there will be large dirt patches that spawn

Example 1 Example 2

  • If dungeons generate below sand, the sand now falls into them instead of remaining suspended.
  • Sometimes, torches generated in the wood of mineshafts don't light.

Mines will render/spread into already rendered chunks. http://i.imgur.com/Bib17.jpg The space is because I imported a schematic in and it was not a clear chunk to chunk grab.

  • Villages are just cut off somehow. that will result in things like this:

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/819/buggdeel2.png/ and: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/827/bugggb.png/

  • Mineshafts generate for extremely long distances under layer 30

River Bugs

Rivers are missing water, but still show signs that there used to be a river there.picture Hihi7 22:53, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Biome Bugs

  • Swamp Biome is much too frequent and i rarely ever see desert or Flatlands.
  • Snow biomes seem to be gone completely. Same here! - Nope, they're still there, the snow just doesn't generate any more.
  • Also the underwater land generates way too spotty and sometimes has gaping holes leading deep underground flooding countless caves!
  • There is no sandstone under the stacks of sand which leads to the gaping holes which flood many caves (description above).
  • Large mushrooms do not spawn naturally, there is no designated "Mushroom Biome". //Not a bug, Mushroom Biome's aren't implemented in the leaked version.
  • melons do not spawn naturally.
  • Biome grass colors do not fade smoothly into another biome sometimes even multiple colors.
  • ravines spawn too often, this also causes abandoned mines to float in mid air also.
  • Ravines should only rarely scrape the surface. It is epic to find one in a rare occasion, but this happens far too often currently. Most ravines should just be underground.

^ Not true. Ravines can be canyons when they reach the surface. If anything, they should just be somewhat more rare. Mouseas 07:01, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Mushrooms spawn in trees (unsure if bug) pictureHihi7 22:54, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

^this is an occurence since early releases. Not new

  • Biomes are way too flat and boring now. Most biomes should be a bit hilly, something in between the current flat land and the mountain biome. (especially redwood forests)

^Have you actually tried more than one world? I suggest you try inputting the seed "Wolf Pack". Then tell us Biomes are flat. Or "NyanCatNyanNyanNyan" It's bettert than Glacier ImminentFate 09:04, 11 September 2011 (UTC)ImminentFate

^Yes, mountain biomes are not flat, but thats not the point here. All others are pretty much completely flat.

  • Vines COMPLETELY take over whatever is around it. it looks terrible. If you plant a vine inside an illuminated mine, the vine will eventually take over the roof and all walls, and then proceed to grow down all the passageways - maybe this could be fixed by requiring nearby water if a vine is growing underground.

^I kinda like this, if you don't like the vines taking over everything then cut them down! It adds to the jungle feeling (or is it suppose to be a swamp?). Acutally no, it is a bad thing. Vines spread too fast in every direction (instead of only downwards like you would expect them to) and could probably cover entire biomes (surface and underground) after some IRL days of gameplay. The entire spread algorythm needs to be redone. Nameless023 04:23, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Snow doesn't generate in snow biomes.
  • Taiga (the pine tree snow biome) is very often next to desert.
  • Desert is often next to forest biomes. There really should be plains / savannah / shrubland in between forests and deserts.
  • I have swamp Biomes next to Desert biomes, they intermix aswell so cacti and reeds are in the desert.
  • Mountain biomes have no / very few trees (not really a bug, but it would be nice if they had some trees at ground level at least, or some snow on the actual mountains).
  • NOT A BUG - I would like to see the swamp-trees in one-block-deep water generate more often, they give it a more swampy feel. As it is, it's more like a forest with lots of vines and pools. Also more long grass or ferns or something would help.
  • Beaches don't spawn anymore, very rarely is their sand near small water pools, otherwise it spawns underwater in circular patches, the same occurs with clay.
  • Roses don't spawn anymore.

Lava Pools

Lava Pools spawn much more now.

^ so what? This is not necessarily a bug. It's not at annoying levels.

Lava/Water Interaction

  • Surface Lava flow was found flowing into water, and not turning into Obsidian/Cobblestone.

Water/Sea bugs

  • Floating islands are occasionly generated in deep water, making it dangerous when trying to resurface.
  • Air pockets is generated in water but does not fill in automaticly, making it easy for long underwater-exploring.

Main Menu Bugs

If you try to change the Video Settings in the main menu the game closes.

^specifically when attempting to change the graphics settings from "fancy" to "fast" or vice versa.

workaround simply change these settings in game.

Background Flickers

I noticed while in the ocean that if you look slightly below the skyline you see the void because the chunks have not been generated/loaded yet. However that's not the problem. The problem is that the color of the void will flicker from the blue sky color, then to the dark blue color you see while underwater. It does this fast and repeatedly. Workaround: When you look down even more to the point where the skyline is out of view the background does not flicker but stays at the blue water background. (However this is annoying.)

General Survival Bugs

Gameplay

Enderman remove player placed blocks TNT now explodes when hitting it, Eating anything then going to bed stops healing you, Cookies cannot be eaten now :( - They can be eaten fine. Your hunger meter was probably just full.

-Got the time to farm and time to strike achivement, at the next start they are gone and I can't get them again.

-Holding down the right mouse button to place blocks doesn't work for me any more (works with left mouse button to destroy blocks). This is annoying, since I have to click for every single block :(

  • Yeah, i hate it too!(someone else)

-Multi Player bug: When many people die at once or one person dies with tons of exp balls the release of these balls cause EXTREME SERVER LAG for everyone even those not nearby. ^ This is a major problem for my server as well, especially since the orbs never seem to despawn. Better options might be to keep gained xp permanently, or not have it be dropped at death. Or maybe this will not be a problem once uses for xp have been added? Mouseas 07:08, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

  • giving a mushroom bonemeal (survival, doesnt work in creative) makes it a huge mushroom. each block has a chance of giving

off another mushroom of the same type, allowing for nearly infinite mushrooms for the player to make (just thought it would be fair to fix this so the food meter has actual meaning...)

Crafting

-When exiting out of the crafting table's menu while still having items sitting in the crafting area, the pieces fly out normally. Yet when you pick them up, one item will stay there even though you pick it up and it appears in your inventory. (Duplication glitch?) When you throw the item you picked up from the glitched item, it behaves the same. Eventually after using (crafting) these glitched items a few times they will disappear. The only way to clean up the glitched items lying around on the ground is to exit Minecraft and open it again.

EDIT: Ok, I found that they also disappear just like any other item if left on the ground for a while.

-New edit: The items that you put in the crafting table that got thrown out. these items can be used as an infinite generator of that item by right clicking. The item that is doing the duplication will have no number and can also overwrite a same item stack if placed on one by left-click.

-To go with the above, if one of these items is placed in a furnace it becomes an infinite stack powering the furnace forever. The picked up blocks do not stack but two can exist in your inventory at once in separate places. These items can be used to craft in a crafting table. These items do not work with shift clicking. They can be manually placed in a chest but can not stack. The things made from crafting can be used and are not bugged.

When you get close to an enderman it will look at you, if you look at its eyes it just keeps building/ breaking blocks, But if you stare at its body it will attack (sometimes die)

I also found that if crafting something in a crafting table and you exit out of it with items still in it, the items will pop out as normal but you are unable to pick them up by any means.

The enderman just attacks me when i look at it, it just fights without freezeing....

- When putting a wood block in both slots in the furnace the game says Saving Chunks and crashes. When you start again the game will crash again withing a few seconds.

- The game only crashes for me when I put things in a furnace on old maps. I generated a new map and it doesn't crash, but still does in the 1.7.3 map. And this happens with any item.

[Next glitch by gravypod :>] - When smelting a log [to make coal] with a wooden plank the game crashes, when you restart the game the logs will be smelting but all items in your hand will be gone :<

[Next glitch by kazzicopter ] - When accessing the furnace, placing copper in the smelting slot crashes the game. When you restart, furnace is smelting normally, no loss of items.

- there is a huge fire gif when a spider goes in lava or fire ..etc

- When trying to smelt Cobble Stone with coal, it duplicated the coal. I moved that coal and a new one appeared. They do not stack but appear to work in smelting.

General Creative Bugs

  • Arrows are not unlimited. When you put an arrow in your inventory and use a bow, the arrow will disappear. You must stack arrows to fire multiple, but stacking doesn't make sense in creative mode
  • When you take a bucket that has liquid ( lava, water , and milk) from the item scroll,

you can only use them once, they arent unlimited.

  • If your minecraft runs out of memory while you are playing creative once you play again if you try to right click on an item in the inventory the game will crash.

  • When you open a chest, It opens a regular inventory, as blocks u have mined and happened to have picked up, it may not be a bug, but shouldn't it show a creative inventory with all the blocks?
  • More items that are missing from the inventory that aren't in the list: birch and spruce saplings, and tall grass (not as sure if we're meant to have this one, but since we DO have those dead bushes from the desert that normally we can't pick up...) 68.65.39.9 13:35, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Blocks

- I do not know if this is a bug or is intentional, but middle click (scroll) no longer works. It doesn't select any item. :(

- When breaking a placed TNT block while in creative mode, the block drops into an item, which can be picked up and placed again. JHeim 01:26, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

- Clicking on a colored wool, and then clicking on a different colored wool, in the item selection list, gives two of the original color, rather than discarding it. (i.e. red then green gives two red, not one green.) Not entirely sure if this is a bug. JHeim 17:53, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Placing a redstone torch next to a piston and quickly removing the piston leaves the extension. [14]
  • When you open your inventory, and click on an item or block in your inventory hotbar, it seems to give you a Saving Chunks error then crashes. Not sure if this happens to most people. -vdudz

Yes I am getting this issue aswell. A real pain as I cannot do anything in creative except what I am already given. - Tom

Yes i got this bug too!!It's realy hard too play in creative without us using the inventory section!!

PLEASE FIX IT!!!!!!!!

when exiting a crafting bench with a block placed on it causes infinite blocks i have uploaded video proof at

Placing sand in creative mode will sometimes grow grass.

TNT can destroy lava.

When you get close to an enderman it will look at you, if you look at its eyes it just keeps building/ breaking blocks, But if you stare at its body it will attack (sometimes die)

Rarely pistons when placed on a server flip downside and repeatedly activate/deactivate for no reason. This is a client-side bug that can be fixed when relogging into the server (the piston is then placed correctly and does not activate repeatedly).

On a server if a sticky piston pulls a block and immediately another piston tries to push that block upwards, the block simply vanishes if the delay between these actions is minimal. This can be reproduced with 2 pistons powered by the same switch where the pulling piston is delayed by a repeater. On setting 1-2 of the repeater the block vanishes, on 3-4 the block is properly lifted.

A player in creative mode on a server cannot destroy blocks in the Nether (whether generated nor placed). All blocks destroyed are only removed client-side and prevent the player from moving and re-appear after a few seconds.

On a server if a server is rebooted Redstone circuits are frozen in the state they have been during shut-down. This can be easily reproduced if a circular circuit using repeaters (to keep the initial impulse running in circles) is build (aka repeater-pulser). If the circuit is activated again it will (in my case at least) work properly, so it could be that this is only a visual bug.

Bonemeal

There is no bonemeal item in the inventory. A reason to need bonemeal is to build giant mushrooms.

- You can just craft it from bones using a crafting table!

Crashes

When you select a diamond sword from the creative item menu you will get a blue screen and a game crash.

When you stop sprinting after jumping in a river, your minecraft crashes sometimes. <-Sprinting?

When you put a wooden block above another wooden block in a furnace the game crashes.

Game usually crashes when you use the furnace. The game crashes if you change the graphics to fancy in the main menu after you have just ran minecraft.

Whenever I open Minecraft on the browser, it simply crashes. This has happened every time. I have correctly installed the minecraft.jar yet I am unable to play 1.8.

^That might be related to the fact that 1.8 isn't fully out yet, so it might screw up the browser... The browser also doesn't respond quite the same to modifying the .minecraft as the launcher. Download the launcher, much more reliable.

-Yet another dedicated Minecraft fan

  • When trying to get a compass in creative mode the game crashes.

Items

When you give your self an arrow from the creative menu and then shoot the bow you lose the arrow and need to get another.

Added -neobenedict

^You are supposed to have unlimited arrows on creative without putting arrows in your hotkey bar

^ It seems that in creative mode, without adding any arrows to your inventory, you are only able to shoot the bow once.

--Shift clicking will give you a full stack of 64 arrows

^ This was in 1.7.X as well. Sometimes it even spawns unlimited stack of a item at 111 ~Super-6-1

While shooting your bow and switching to another item or block will make your bow unusable.

--You also can't hold the bow normally, if you press F5 and look at yourself, you're holding the bow like you would a book (It's normally like that) not like the skeletons hold it, with 2 hands and it's going through their hands.

-You can't eat any of the food you spawn.

-There is no way to create items such as Bonemeal because there is no crafting interface. Either Notch should add more items, or make crafting possible. Solution: Use a crafting table.

-Furnaces don't work and auto automatically saves and quits.

-Water and lava buckets are not infinite, new buckets have to be gotten after each use.

-Putting a crafted item in workbench then canceling it, while standing 1block high 3block back, will cause infinite spawn of that item next to bench. (also stack able item glitch works, but only for using in a craft, and can't be stacked with real ones; moving stackable item and stand next to work bench as doing same step to first, will cause a 1stackable item to gen each time and u can grab and use in crafting without uses)

-Doors are usable underwater, and create air pocket.

-If you hold right mouse button with a sword and click a block, then release the right mouse button, the sword will attack one time.

-You can break blocks while blocking with a sword.

-Mushrooms can spawn on tree leaves

Up to now it's only tested with stair blocks, but it could also occur using other non.solid block.

Pumpkin Chrash

When i tried to click the pumpkin in creative mode's block menu it's coming up with the "Saving Chunks" Chrash, i tried atleast 5 times and it's happend all the times. I wrote this because it's kinda annoying, if your going to use pumpkins in your creations. (95.34.190.225 20:41, 10 September 2011 (UTC))

- It has already been noted that the game crashes in a random fashion with the "Saving Chunks" message. --Griffrez 00:56, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Pumpkin Graphical Error

When roaming, sometimes you come across patches of dirt in grassy areas sometimes with 1 or 2 pumpkins near by. When you try to walk on them you start bouncing around and can't move much like standing on fences used to be like before 1.6 beta. If you try to place any block on the dirt patch, a pumpkin then appears as it should have. You don't love inventory of what you tried to place, even if you place a pumpkin. You can fix the graphical glitch if you save and quit and rejoin. Happens on servers mostly. Survival mode (gamemode: 0) I was OP, and it happened both at night and in the day, while roaming around generating new land.

Silverfish use same sound as spiders

Falling onto cobweb

If you fall onto a cobweb from a height that would normally kill you, after the slow trip through the cobweb to the ground you will still die as if you were falling at max speed. -this is an old bug

Sword "one more hit" bug

When holding right button, and clicking left and then releasing right - sword will make one more hit. And this hit is not just animation - it does damage. So this bug can be annoying when playing with people on SMP.

Drowning and Shooting Yourself

1) If you are walking forward, and shoot the bow on the lowest charge, you will be hit by the arrow and take damage

2) When working around water just barely high enough to breathe in, it is possible to begin to drown, get air, but continue drowning with a full air bar.

3) Experience orbs make no sound when picked up.

4) Experience orbs (if there are a lot of them) will all fly around your head, making it impossible to see, for as long as it takes for them all to be collected.

5) Air pockets spawn underwater in large bodies of water.

Minecraft.net login server overloaded

With everyone trying out 1.8, the minecraft.net login server appears to be overloaded. I typically timeout when I try to login. It went from a successful login for each 1-2 tries to a successful login after 5-10 tries today.

^ Not related to 1.8

- It doesn't really make sense that this was the only thing stressing the server. All you had to do was download a 1.8 MB jar file. Doubt it was the source of the stress. Maybe the fact that most people needed to reinstall Minecraft was the source. I think the server was optimized during the downtime. But, yes, this is not a bug. Shall be deleted, in my opinion.

In SMP (fast) doubleclicking a chest leaves it open

In SMP when I doublerightclick a chest it is left open even if I close the chest GUI.

^ I can confirm that. Easy to reproduce.

Left-Clicking with a Bow

Left-clicking with a bow in your hand results in being able to hit monsters that would normally be too far away to hit.

Hunger Stays same while in Boat

Your hunger will not go down while in a boat. Note: While testing to confirm this I stayed moving in the boat for an hour. I was also moving full speed about 90% of the time.

Mob spawns, tall grass & block "crackling" & F3 functionality

I found a ravine in the first three or four minutes of playing, not only was the bottom covered in dirt, but coated with cows & tall grass. Also, when breaking blocks (I noticed it with sand) you will not see the crackling/breaking animation when you look through water at the block you are breaking.

F3 appears to have no use other than showing your X/Y/Z. Intentional? No Mobs seem to have spawn numbers. 24.182.4.202 23:09, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

I hope the f3 problem is not a bug, as it makes the game more fun. Also it shows the seed of your world.

Your not supposed to see the cracking animation while looking through water. Please do some reaserch befor posting. Sorry :] The F3 thing was posted by me a yesterday... Realy annoying aint it? Cant find any dungeons anymore with that!

final use of a pick not providing resource

technically bug listed in previous versions but to me is valid to state here as it still exists/happens. the final strike, the one that makes the tool disappear from bar, will not provide the resource from the block mined out. it isn't significant to stone and stone picks but it is important for iron and diamond picks and resources that are less common than coal. 96.13.59.184 01:00, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

This has pretty much always happened and I dont think it will be fixed... Just watch the bar I guess?
(sign your comments) it is very hard to "watch the bar" when for all tools stone or higher, you can get several uses when that tool health bar is empty specially with diamond. also no it started happening around version 1.5 or 1.6 but was only affecting multiplier back then if i remember right. i didn't test much during 1.7 so i can't say for back then in single. 166.164.115.166 16:27, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Biome Generation

The only old Biome to appear seems to be desert. The only other biomes are the new ones, the Mountain Biome, Plains Biome, Swamp Biome, Village Biome, Ocean Biome, and that Snowless-Taiga biome. Liquid Ink 01:21, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Sleeping bug

lots of times hostile mobs will spawn in my well lit home when i try to fall asleep

----------------

this is not a bug, when your bed is next to a wall, mobs will "clip" you in your sleep and come into your house. Move your bed into the middle of your house.

-catron44

Well, this IS a bug, but it's a longer-standing one. Logically there's no reason why a mob should be able to get in. But it hasn't been fixed since beds have been added. Mouseas 07:50, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Ender Pearl, pumpkin, cobweb, Enderman

as it was said before: "-If you have an Ender Pearl in your inventory or a pumpkin on your head it[mob] doesn't turn hostile unless you attack it. " but it actually doesnt seem to work [Survival Single Player]

When you drop blocks like gravel or sand onto cobweb they will act odd and can stack on each other plus cobweb if there are no empty space below.

Killed Enderman doesnt drop block if he was holding one. Not sure if it's a bug or intentionall but I suppose it should drop this block uppon death.

Redstone light colour

Redstone ore gives off a yellow glow when hit. Red light would make more sense.

lava bug

The light not showing works with the npc village forge lava too. I saw that in a yogscast video. --71.123.51.188 02:31, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Sponge Block

The sponge block does not remove water around it in creative mode.

I dont think sponges have that property any more

They havent been given that ability yet. Wait for the official update and it might be added.

Creeper not destroying blocks while in water

When a creeper explodes while bobbing around in water to does not cause damage to blocks around it in creative mode. Not sure about survival mode.

I tested this by luring a creeper into 1 block water and having him explode.

Im am very sure this is SUPPOSED to happen, and is not a bug.

-catron44

Edit: Creeper's have always behaved this way. Same with TNT.

Abandoned Mine Shafts

Some minecart tracks get removed by water streams in the creation of the map

Thats not a bug... Its a side effect of map generation.

Redstone

Glowing redstone ore now creates a lot of light. Even with no light around, it is as light as a torch

Chests

Apparently, when you try to open a chest while holding a normal torch, the saving chunks screen appears, and the game crashes. Even after extensivly trying to reapeat this after this happening on accident 3 times in a row, i could not, and i tried with iron ore smelting like it was when this first happened.

Grass Lag

The game itself lags more then usual in 1.8, but in areas with a large amount of 'tall grass' the game slows to a crawl. Makes me wish there was a 'don't render grass' option.

An XP bug that WILL delay 1.8 again!

Before I go in to detail of the glitch I will talk about what xp is. XP is a cool thing which has no real purpose atm. You collect it after you kill an animal/monster and it stores endlessly in your invetory. Like everything in minecraft XP takes up space tiny but it still takes up space like when you drop a block.

The glitch is when you have played on a server for a LONG time and dont die you have TON's of XP in your invetory wether you can see it or not. When a player dies all of their xp is dropped (this is when it gets complicated)

Griefers use invetory drops to lag or kill servers right. It's when they drop all 9 slots all at once. Every block takes up space even if it is waiting to get picked up. So lets say 1 floating block = 1 xp that would mean 10,000 xp would = 10,000 floating blocks. So when a player dies they would drop the equivilent of 10,000 blocks (which kills or lags certain areas of the server.

I have came up with a couple ways to fix the xp crysis and hope that mojang will use them.

1) Create different xp's that group together. So lets say you have x green/yellow xp floating around near each other they would forum together to create another color xp which would be the equivilent of x xp. (x is the number of xp) (Other games have used this option in the past)

2)Go the easy way and remove dropping xp. Its your xp you should not loose it

3) When you die xp is gone forever When you die all/ or some of your xp is gone forever and you keep it in your invetory.

Number 2 is the only reasonable option. Number one would be pretty pointless... Loads of lag made worse by all them orbs moving around? Lag fest. Number 3 is a bit harsh dont ya think? Play for an hour and get lots of XP to lose it all?

Double Chests from 1.7

I loaded my 1.7 SMP world into 1.8. I walked up to a chest and right clicked, instead of opening (on one side) it did this: http://imgur.com/tPG7w (the block I was holding placed on half the chest). The chest still operates normally as a double chest. If I break the block, the chest was still inside it. The other half of the chest is the only portion that works properly. Didn't see this bug reported elsewhere. Running client on windows, server is on linux. Maxallen 05:11, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Slab/Plate Bug

Set up a crafting row with 2 wood, 2 wood and 1 wood. Now Shift-click once in the output area. You will receive 3 slabs (expected) and a pressure plate (not expected). All input materials will be consumed (expected). This same bug also manifests for stone slabs and plates.

Just some bugs

This was found in SMP - Most of THE paintings turn black. - Once while it was raining and darm outside i saw endermen dying to the rain.

Thats all. Love THE update though. Argotny.

render problem?

when chopping wood the blocks would act normal buyt after a while they still act normal but the graphic remains. AThis eventually results in a game crash.

Experience points

Okay so after playing for 5 hours without dying i died and i dropped all my experience and it extremely lagged my server up i could not do anything maybe change the experience to a solid block instead of millions of floating orbs i see this causing a lot of lagg if left the same. Bubblychicken 08:49, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

This is a pretty big bug. Luckily, whenever I die its in lava so my orbs are burnt. Mabey just dont pick up the orbs? They dont realy have a use yet to my infomation.

If you play more than half an hour, you tend to have at least enough orbs to create some lag. I think a way to fix this would be just to drop a single orb with a value in it saying how much exp its worth. Also, when picking up these orbs under laggy conditions, it takes a loooong time to pick up, exacerbating the problem of too many orbs...

EX Points causing extreme lag

Further to this, When I die after playing for a few hours, usually everything is okay, altho laggy until my experience comes back to me. But sometimes the graphics for the XP coming back will remain in my vision when I already picked it all up.

Also, if I die in SMP on my multiplayer server (which is running linux, but my client is windows xp), and then dissconnect without respawning. upon reconnecting i am still dead, and the world is so laggy it is unplayable, even after respawning and fighting you way back to your experience points to pick them up. May be related.

EX Points causing extreme lag

Same here, first i put my server online it was runing on 5gb of ram 50 slots, and after few hours it start to extremly lagg, i didnt know what it was , so i restart the map and change it to 30 slots, but after another few hours it start to lag again, i restart the map about 10 times more , and even i put 10gb of ram..., this didnt help. but once i seen someone falling down and drop the "orbs", there was too many of them and that was the problem for the laggs, i seen lag on all servers.

2 cows in a tree

Redstone torches and set time

In creative or survival, after a few seconds of changing time with "time set 0", redstone torches that are part of a circuit burn off and all circuits break. If I replace them, they burn again. After 3-4 minutes they begin to light-up again. It might be a timing issue and torches are considered to switch on/off too fast even if they are not.

This happens in singleplayer as well though the cause is unknown currently but probably related to beds or using f6/f7 to change time since setting time is what broke it in smp.

pressure plate bug

If you stand on a pressure plate, and quit the game while still on it, when you re-enter minecraft, the pressure plate will be stuck down, even when you get of it. It can only be fixed when you destroy it, then replace it.

Chunk updates can cause FPS to become permantly low

After some flying in a newly created world, sometimes the FPS rate becomes fixed to the number of Chunk Updates that second. Since standing still means low number of chunk updates, then the FPS becomes very low as well.

Pressing Escape brings up the menu, prevents chunk updates and the FPS rises again to normal levels. Leaving the menu drops the FPS back to single figures again after a few seconds.

I've not yet managed to find the trigger for this behaviour, but I've had it occur in 4 of the 5 Creative Mode sessions I did. So it should be reasonably easy to reproduce. In all of those I flew around a bit, basically exploring the 500 radius area around the spawn point.

Missing red flowers

After exploring several square kilometers of terrain between a few different worlds, I've found that yellow flowers generate pretty often, but red flowers never do (c10t's option to output the total number of blocks of each type in a world confirms this.) It is still possible to grow red flowers in Survival by using bonemeal on grass. Polkakitty 11:43, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Cows Aren't Dropping Leather

I saw this somewhat referenced by someone else, but not outright stated yet: Cows are not dropping Leather. I have been playing on a 1.8 generated world since the 'leak', and I have 2 stacks of beef, and 0 leather.

Uh... They dont ALWAYS drop leather you know? It's possible for all the cows you kill to be unlucky and drop 0 leather.

1 - Enderman teleport to me even if they are really far away. What's the safe staring distance? if there is one. On the edge of "Short" fog viewing distance, they will teleport. Bug or intentional?

2 - Sprinting. Needs to be fixed. Not good when you're on a ledge and tapping to be more precise in your movements. Either bind sprinting to a key, or allow the user to set the "double key-tap" speed necessary to activate sprinting. (Like, how fast you have to double click)

3 - Mobs. Do certain mobs only spawn in certain biomes? I built a base and 90% of passive mobs are sheep. I have to travel a bit to encounter sheep in greater frequencies. Also, I find from 1/3 to 1/2 of mobs swimming in water when I come across a good sized body of water.

4 - Sword lifespan. Oddly, I believe my stone sword lasted much longer than my iron one. Not sure why, but if breaking wrong blocks reduces the lifespan, make an exception for tall grass. It's quite easy to miss and hit grass and break it when you're chasing pigs.

5 - Chests are smaller. They take up the same amount of space but have transparent side walls making the actual chest smaller in visual size. Intentional?

6 - Experience Orbs. On SSP, I've had no problems with lag due to dying, and I'm using a laptop. However, the xp orbs are invisible if they fall in water. XP orbs should "level stick". Once you reach a level, that level sticks and won't drop orbs below that level. Example: 10 orbs per level, you gain 54 orbs > you level up to 5 and have 4 remaining orbs. You die, you only drop 4 and keep the 50 that got you to the 5th level.

Placed bedrock in the Nether in multiplayer aren't breakable

Observed at least on a Linux server + Linux client. Works in single player, but in multiplayer, you cannot break bedrock in the nether that you have placed; on the client, it appears to break, however you are not able to pass through the blocks, and if you attempt to put any other block in the location, it will instantly change appearance back to bedrock. Creative Mode: Missing Items

Not all available items are present in the item suppository in Creative Mode. So far, I have noticed birch and redwood saplings and their leaf types, all of the dyes (including lapis lazuli ore, cocoa beans, and bone meal; inc sacs are present however), and, whether intentional or not, the cracked and mossy stone bricks are missing. Along with this, dead shrubs, a selectable item in the menu, are unamed. --Sandman 17:32, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

Mushroom Glitch

A couple of creative bugs

Hey guys!

I've just been playing creative for 5 minutes and found a few bugs:

o Leaves still drop saplings when they decay

o Chests let you see your inventory (Identical behaviour to survival, it should show the hotbar only shouldn't it?)

o Arrows aren't infinite (Is this intentional?)

Trappingnoobs

- Leaves are supposed to do that.

- Yeah, I noticed that the inventory is still enabled, that's a bug.

- Arrows should be infinite, but I wouldn't count on a fix.

Other problems:

- You can stack infinite items (cute, but pointless).

- You can not place items directly into your item hotbar (inconvenient).

I think I've figured out the audio glitch

I often play MC with the Music muted, but sound on. I have noticed with 1.8 that If my game is launched and the music was muted, then I have NO sound or audio at all - where as if the game is launched and the music is anythign above muted, then all audio works fine. Windows 7 64-bit.

Achievement Sniper Duel doesn't work

The Achievement "Sniper Duel" where you have to kill a Skeleton with an arrow from more than 50 meters doesn't work.

I tested it with a friend on a private 1.8-Server:

He stood directly by the Skeleton (in Creative-Mode for unlimited healt) at x = -1280

I stood at x = -1225 (in Survival-Mode) and killed the Skeleton with some arrows

-> No Achievement (I had the "Monster Hunter"-Achievement already)~

NPC building above ravine

I don't know if this is supposed to happen or not, but it's unrealistic. In real life, a building just wouldn't be built on top of a canyon (unless it had to be there for some reason.) Plus a foundation that big can be a bit of an eyesore.

Some new bugs discovered

-Animals don't spawn on ocean biomes. If you spawn on a small island, you will die probably, cause there are no trees to get wood and no animals to get food. also no passive mo farms will work there

- enderman can pick up anything beside iron bars, glass planes and fences. they can even move bedrock and monster spawners. if they place a spawner, it will become a pig spawner. therefore it's now possible to get pigspawners in survival without cheating.

-there are no rainforest or snow biomes

- sometimes the pattern of dirt and sand in the oceans breaks at the chunk boarders

-Chests are able to be opened when there is an iron gate above it

-Iron bars/ Glass panes end up being iron bars/glass PAINS due to the small surface of the edges, causing the creation of large walls to be rather annoying. (hopefully not intended)

Furnace

Sugar Cane

Sugar Cane can now grow on sand near water // This is most likely not a bug. Sugar Cane can also be placed on sand next to water, and it is probable that this was intentional. Mouseas 07:19, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Bugs(?)

-Pigs, when hit, will run slightly faster and in an erratic manner as though to escape(probably intended). // not a bug

-In Creative (have not tested Survival) I hit shift inadvertently to crouch while going to sleep, and the camera shifted to inside the head while lying down, and could be done and undone by pressing and releasing Shift.

Grow huge mushrooms and keep the small mushroom

If you place a small mushroom (I only tried with a red one, but a brown one would probably work) in water and quickly right-click it with bonemeal before the water washes it away, a huge mushroom will grow, but the small one will still be dropped. Flarn2006 01:31, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Random Crashing

Some reason the game seems to crash when I change the advanced openGl settings and fancy/fast settings I can change that in-game(Thank goodness)But it can get confusing.

Numbah90 01:53, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

For some Strange and unexplainable reason, Minecraft "crashes" randomly when playing, showing the main menu screen from 1.7 (Dirt Background), Saying: "Saving Chunks". After a While, you will get a black screen, and therefore you need to run Minecraft again. But, Nothing is affected.

Dongirses 07:16, 11 September 2011 (UTC) ^ This may be the well-known furnace bug. Were you smelting anything at the time?

Vine Overgrowth

Vines grow too fast and are too widespread, they can easily cover all the trees in a swamp biome in 5-10 Minecraft days. Here's a small proof: http://i51.tinypic.com/2468588.png

It would make more sense to have Vines generate on *some* leaves in the swamp's trees instead of having them generate on *all* the leaves. In my opinion it would make the swamps look better. Here's a small example: http://i51.tinypic.com/30cn508.png

Nameless023 01:57, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

EDIT: I just realized that the vines do spawn on some of the leaves and not on all of them. The problem is that they spread in every direction (upwards, downwards, sideways, diagonals, even across short distances) and adding that to the fast spread of it you get areas quickly covered in vines in a corruption/plague spread way.

Screenshots: This used to be a hill: http://i52.tinypic.com/50qpg4.png Vines slowly spreading into a cave: http://i54.tinypic.com/t5ge8h.png

The swamps a fairly ok. The vines dont grow all that fast and can be easily controlled. If you go to a real swamp in reality it would be much worse with mud and slime.

Slimes

I saw a slime in a cave, and it seemed to be constantly disappearing and re-appearing, but it was still able to hit me, it almost looked like it was falling through the ceiling at random.

It was sure hard to kill because I couldn't see it half of the time. –The preceding unsigned comment was added by 97.88.49.149 (Talk|Contribs) 02:07, 12 September 2011. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

(Potentially) Repeatable Furnace crash

This happened to me 4 times in a row.
Method:

  1. Place 16 Cobblestone in a furnace
  2. Place 2 Coal in said furnace
  3. Observe Saving Chunks screen
  4. Observe Black Screen
  5. Restart Minecraft

I did this on four separate furnaces, each in the same room. The first time I was placing the coal in individually and lost the entire stack I was holding. For subsequent attempts, I made a stack of 2 Coal and put that in the furnace. Other than the crash, I find no problems (ie no save regression or lost items except for what you have on your cursor when you crash).

I may, if I need more smoothstone, test other stack sizes and fuel types to see if I can get more repetition out of it.

UPDATE (02:56, 12 September 2011 (UTC)): Just had this happen again with 8 cobble upon placing the coal in the furnace, it crashed. And I lost another half stack of coal in the process.  :(

UPDATE (03:00, 12 September 2011 (UTC)): I believe this is related to the, iirc, already mentioned Furnace State Change bug. I've just had my Minecraft crash each time the furnaces have finished. Oddly enough, I've not had this problem at all for any smelting other than Cobblestone. I've smelted Iron and Gold just fine.
