Remove stub flags from pages

Some pages aren't supported by the wiki, mojang, minecraft irc and forums that are flagged as stub's. I don't think there's much to say of expanding the page since there isn't much to say about the mod. Particularly Mods/ , has a list of pages flagged as stubs. Extreme 21:11, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Change "Discussion" tab to "Talk"

I think we should change the "Discussion" tab to say "Talk" instead. Everybody calls them "talk" pages, even the namespace is "Talk:" that tab is the only time it is ever called "Discussion" and I think it just makes things confusing for newcomers, not to mention "Talk" is a much smaller word with a similar meaning, so it would help people with small screens. ultradude25Talk

Hi folks - I am new to Minecraft and need some help figuring out how to play in multiplayer mode. Is there a good forum for beginners here i can go to?

Thanks!

Redstone melodies tutorial

I'd like to create that tutorial, if I can. May I? - Creepers explode, don'tcha know? 14:33, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Sure. I recommend creating it in your own userspace and working on it there until it's a reasonable rough draft. It doesn't need to be perfect though before you "publish" it by moving it to Tutorials -- if you publish a good rough draft, others may come in and help, but they'll be more likely to help if there's something to work with. —Munin295 · Grid Book and Quill Grid Stone Pickaxe · 17:00, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

How to create crafting icons for blocks?

I created the crafting grid for the Block of Nether Quartz. but the icon for the block is missing and i want to upload it to the wiki, how do i create the image? taking an screenshot ingame then editing? or there is any other program? M05K1T0 16:12, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Which page do you mean? Block of quartz crafting grid looks fine to me. - Creepers explode, don'tcha know? 16:22, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
Do you mean the little images? Those are a part of one big image. There's File:BlockCSS.png, File:ItemCSS.png, and File:EntityCSS.png. The big item images on the right of the item page are special renders made by ultradude25. If you want to update something on the CSS pictures, make sure you know what you're doing and don't use MSPaint.
Also, when you upload a new version of an image, it WILL be there. You need to refresh your browser cache to see it. Do not reupload the same image again. --Kanegasi C 16:28, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Vector tabs

Why is the "read/edit/add topic/ view history" bar moving? --Droideka30 01:53, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

If you mean it slides left or right, that is a vector skin improvement on this wiki that collapses the tabs into a dropdown arrow if you have a small screen/small browser display. --Kanegasi C 02:02, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
Well, there's a problem with it. In the Talk: namespace, the four tabs continuously bounce back and forth for me. I've tested it in Firefox and Chrome. If I make the browser window wider, it settles down, but at my standard viewing size they just keep bouncing. --timrem 17:46, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
Yeah mediawiki's tab collapsing code doesn't understanding padding or margin and gets itself confused, if I can find the code responsible maybe I can replace it with something that works, but for now the best I could do is make them not collapse at all, which would make some tabs completely unusable depending on your screen size. ultradude25Talk

I don't know anything about code. All I know is that when viewing talk pages form my iPhone, with the default Safari browser, the tabs move wildly left and right. It is impossible to resize the window on my phone, and it becomes extremely difficult to hit the tab I want. This happens on almost all of the talk pages on the wiki. --Droideka30 01:02, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
I found the code responsible and it should be fixed now. ultradude25Talk

I'm not sure where to add this

Remove this from here and put it in the right place when you find it.

If you have a stack of 0 items, it acts like a stack of 256 in some ways.

  1. If you move it without using one, it disappears.
  2. If you place it, and it's a block, it disappears.
  3. If it has a holding right-click function, and you use it, it disappears. (Someone else said that.)
  4. This means that only blocks as items in the inventory (e. g. heads) and throwable items work.
  5. If you use 1, you'll have 255. (The game thinks you have -1, but it won't disappear like having 0.)
  6. It won't say how many you have until you have 127.
  7. You can't spawn 0 of an item with the /give command; it requires Bukkit glitches (I used ChestShop.)

Collapse nav templates by default

The recent addition of the Redstone template (conversation) along with its addition to every linked page made me realize how cluttered some pages ended up, like Redstone Repeater. Initially, when I previewed that particular page before it was added, I suggested to put the smaller template, Redstone, on top due to the bullying size of the Blocks and Items. Thinking back to that, I remembered seeing a wiki, with tons of nav templates, default them to being closed. We don't have a ton of nav templates, but now that some pages have three, with the potential to have more in the future if the larger ones are split, I believe this should be a possibility. --Kanegasi C 04:14, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

Agree I was just thinking the same thing. However, it would be nice if they didn't shrink to the left when collapsed but just window-shaded up. —Munin295 · Grid Book and Quill Grid Stone Pickaxe · 04:30, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
That's how they were to start with, then someone whined about having to open them when viewing the wiki on a phone.
Not that it really matters, they're at the bottom of the page. Unless you're planning on clicking on some categories, they're not in the way uncollapsed. ultradude25Talk

xbox version

In the wiki i noticed that you can see the dates for when the computer version is going to release there update. I am one who plays the xbox version and was thinking why on the xbox page it does not show the date for our next update? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Jeftut1993 (Talk|Contribs) 20:30, 20 January 2013 (UTC). Honestly, I believe the Pocket Edition should do the same thing. The only edition Mojang has complete control over the release date is the PC version. The Pocket Edition release date is at the hands of Apple and Google, as updates have to be handled by their respective app review department, which takes weeks and either app store could get it earlier than the other. The XBox version is much worse. It takes much longer for Microsoft to finish reviewing updates. Because of these three companies and their review processes, which are a necessary evil to ensure bad apps don't make it to millions of mobile devices and XBoxes, this invites speculation and other guesswork to show itself in the release date column. Speculation does not belong anywhere on a wiki. --Kanegasi C 01:18, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

As the title implies, this would contain all content removed from the game, for example human mob, rana, gear, crying obsidian, winter mode etc. It would look better outside of the normal templates. Xeoxer 15:17, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Enhanced Recent Changes

Ever since I started here, the enhanced javascript recent changes have been technically "broken" for me, where the show/hide arrow did nothing and the page loaded with the arrows closed (pointed to the right) while all page revisions were shown. Most of my common.css enhancements came from ultradude25, but I specifically left out the change that forces everything closed, since I liked my recent changes "broken". Now, out of the blue, my recent changes started working. Everything collapses, and I can't figure out a way to force everything open. There is no, or I can't find any, obvious opposite to "display: none;". Could anyone shine a light on this? Was there some ninja wiki software update? Special:Version still reports 1.18.6, which I believe it has been there for ages. Kanegasi C 02:28, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

I like them open by default too. This is keeping them open for me, but won't allow them to close (which is fine for me): table.mw-enhanced-rc tr { display: table-row !important; }. —Munin295 · Grid Book and Quill Grid Stone Pickaxe · 02:47, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

That's neat, but we're still staying away from a release date column in the Xbox 360 Edition upcoming features page, and eventually the Pocket Edition upcoming features page will follow, but we haven't gotten to the point where that release date column causes an issue yet. {{Xbox}} and {{Pocket}}

Is it just me or are these icons a little intrusive in to the article body? I would much rather see icons next to the article title, like is done on many Wikia's. Assassin's Creed Wiki for example. It would be less intrusive and still get to the point of telling which versions have this feature and don't. CRRaysHead90 09:45, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

Update mediawiki?

Hi guys, This is just random, but apparently the latest version of mediawiki is 1.20 something, where as the wiki has only 1.18 something. Does it need an update? Numbermaniac 09:54, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Strictly speaking, yes, but Curse has to test any updates before they're actually deployed, which required a non-trivial investment of time and effort, so updates are by necessity few and far between. That, combined with some of the long-awaited improvements that are not yet stable in MediaWiki core or Wikimedia-deployed extensions (the parser rewrite, the WYSIWYG editor, and Lua templates, primarily), leads me personally to prefer holding off on an update until said improvements hit stable. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 10:17, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
Oh. Thanks. I was just wondering why it hadn't been updated, but it makes sense now. Thanks Numbermaniac 11:10, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
I've seen some of curse's newer wikis which have the global login system implemented are updated to 1.19.3, so I expect when we eventually get that system we'll be updated. I too would like to hold off until lua (or hopefully server JS!) support is added, I've already converted some of our templates to lua and they work pretty well. ultradude25Talk

A brief explanation - For the past year, the Curse php team has been developing a platform for our wiki network that has been dubbed "Hydra". As Ultradude25 pointed out, our new wikis have all been launched on this platform, incorporating a universal login, as well as the new Curse footer (front-end). The larger purpose and benefit of this platform is giving our team the ability to update all wikis on the platform at one time, as well as improving the efficiency of adding extensions, and changing configurations based on the various communities' requests (back-end). We are now at the point where we will be starting to migrate our older existing wikis to the Hydra platform which will automatically upgrade them to 1.19.3. As our most trafficked wiki, Minecraft will most likely be migrated towards the end of the process, guaranteeing most of the kinks have already been worked out of the migration system. Once all of our wikis are on Hydra, upgrading them all to the most current, stable version of Media Wiki will no longer take months of our team's time, and will therefore happen much more regularly. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 01:21, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
I know there will be a time when questions can be presented and more info can be given, but in the case of unified logins, my Curse account and my wiki username are the same, as is the email, so I should not have any issue, correct? Kanegasi C 01:24, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Correct, but we are implementing a "Nickname" type system as is used on MCForums, where if your wiki username is unavailable in the curse.com databse, you will be able to continue to use it as a display name even if your actual account name/login name is something different. And yes, as it comes time to migrate MCW onto Hydra, I will be providing much more detailed information. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 01:28, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Windows 8 Logo or Windows XP/Vista/7

Which logo should be used as the icon of the Windows OS on this wiki.

The old Windows XP/Vista/7 logo Or the new Windows 8 logo.

Do you  Oppose the new logo or  Agree to the new logo.

Agree We shoud use the most update logo--007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 22:10, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
Oppose We should use the logo that most represents Windows. The windows 7 logo represents Windows all the way back to Windows 3.1 (1992), whereas the Windows 8 logo only represents Windows 8.
Additionally, at the size this image is used (20px), the Windows 8 logo just looks like a blue blob (especially on our already blueish background), so you can't actually tell it represents Windows at all. ultradude25Talk

Oppose Same reason as ultradude25. It's not about having an up-to-date logo, it's about having a logo that represents Windows. Kanegasi C 23:11, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
Oppose According to usage data for January 2013, about 2.5% of computers run Windows 8, compared to 75-90% of computers running all versions of Windows. More people are using Vista than 8. At this time, the Windows 8 logo is not at all representative of Windows as a whole. We should switch at some point in the future (perhaps once 8 is the second-most used version of Windows, beating XP), but not now. -- Orthotope 02:08, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
Oppose I definitely think we should stick to the old logo. That has been the logo since almost the beginning of Windows, where as the newer logo only represents Windows 8. Orthotope is Windows XP really the most used? Because that is what I have. I have no intention of getting Windows 8 until my computer becomes really outdated. If the blue logo stays, perhaps we can change to that once Windows 15 or something comes out, because by then, most people would probably have something higher than Windows 8. I made an extension for this a while back, however I doubt Curse will want to install an extra extension just for this purpose. Also I never bothered adding a special page to it, so you'd only be able to change the filter by getting Curse staff to do it, i.e it'd never get done. ultradude25Talk

It's not surprising that Special:Random on a random-language Wikipedia only results in pages written in that Wikipedia's language; new-language projects of Wikimedia Foundation wikis are started on the Wikimedia Incubator, instead of being an assortment of subpages on the equivalent English (or any other language) project.
It should also be pointed out that the extension Ultradude mentioned is not installed here or on any Wikimedia wiki, so even if he had bothered coding a specialpage for it, you wouldn't be able to view it here. ;) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:13, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

In the pocket edition, There are 3 blocks that are not (as far as I can see) on the wiki. These are glitch grass (id 253), glitch leaves (id 254), and glitch stone (id 255). I have tested their physics so I would like to post info about them. ~~Z. Hammitt Zachthegamer98 20:36 12 February 2013

They're mentioned on Data values (Pocket Edition). If there's much more to say about them, Technical blocks would probably be the best place for it. -- Orthotope 18:26, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
If you're sure that it is called glitch stone, you can add that in Data values (Pocket Edition). The article doesn't list the name for 255, so you could add that in.
