Help!

I am using a chromebook, and i need help! my chromebook seems not to be creating thumbnails anymore for the wiki, every page i visit that as a recipe: blank. the links are there, just invisible. Any possible way to fix? Suggestions? Also the top part of the page is the sky color, but no grass. It wasn't like this yesterday! Trigger hurt 11:40, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Opinions on which version of File:Phone.svg to use

I'm bringing this up since editors in this wiki apparently can't resolve a simple issue quickly or effectively. Because of the petty edit warring going on at File:Phone.svg, there needs to be a consensus on which version of the image to use. I've stated my reasons in the File talk page, but feel free to post your comments here as well.

The main reason I updated it was because the file is smaller, and also because that form is the generic form that most smartphones look like. Even though the image may superficially resemble an iPhone, that is not important; and in fact, the Pocket Edition is available on the iPhone/iTouch/iPad, not only on Android phones. And as Orthotope stated, "From a technical standpoint, the nominal image size is irrelevant, since it's vectorized, but the file size is considerably smaller."

Please give your opinions and thoughts on the changes. Thanks --M0rphzone(talk) 06:56, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

I prefer the original image, from a purely visual judgment. The colors and unnecessary border of the Wikipedia image, in my opinion, make it ugly when compared to the original. And compared to other images we have here, the file size of 13KB is trivial. --timrem 09:21, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
I have removed the border, and changed the color to black, so these are not problems. What do you think about the updated image? --M0rphzone(talk) 08:10, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
I vote for the newest version. All drawbacks were fixed and it looks more like "generic smartphone". and you got rid of that ugly blue color...MiiNiPaaT|C 13:04, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
Agree The newest black version is awesome. --Kanegasi C 19:23, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
I think the one Ultradude uploaded is better. It looks more like a phone. Creepergoboom64 19:49, 30 November 2012 (UTC)Creepergoboom64

servers.minecraftforum.net/servers

There has been some discussion over the links to server listing websites on the Server list and the new page Lists of servers on whether or not such a thing should be on the wiki. As suggested by me on the Talk:Lists of servers page, such a list should be banned from the wiki on the grounds of advertisement in favor of the forum's list, due to the reasons I stated on that talk page. In addition, which is why I am posting here, I suggest adding a link in the left menu to this new list of servers, preferably right under the "Forums" link under the Minecraft menu header. --Kanegasi C 19:23, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Help on hiding sidebar

Is there a way to hide the video spotlight/recent community articles/mojang tweets sidebar on the right side of the screen? It's annoying when it blocks image files I'm trying to view. sumone10154(talk) 19:46, 24 October 2012 (UTC)

There is a browser script that Ultradude25 made, but I can't find the link anywhere. An easier option would be to put the following in your common.css page:
div#curse-panel {display:none;}
div#bodyContent2 {margin-right:20px;}
Just navigate to User:Sumone10154/common.css and drop those two short lines in and save. Anyone else who reads this, make sure to replace "Sumone10154" with your username. --Kanegasi C 19:57, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks!sumone10154(talk) 22:17, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
You can see my subpage on sidebar removal for more info too. --M0rphzone(talk) 22:05, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
For other users, this link Special:MyPage/common.css will work for any user. --M0rphzone(talk) 22:08, 27 October 2012 (UTC)

"youtu.be"

May I ask why the YouTube-owned "youtu.be" short link is blocked? I find that much cleaner and shorter than the full link. --Kanegasi C 20:45, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

"Recent Community Articles" and "Mojang Tweets" need to go.

On every single article, these two tabs are placed on the upper right-hand corner, pushing the actual article aside and cutting its width in half. They add no new information to the content of the article, and therefore get in the way. For example, if I want to look up fire, so much space is taken up by the Recent Community Articles and Mojang Tweets that the description of fire only has a couple of words per line.

I realize that there are ways of removing the sidebar through browser extensions, but this should be a non-issue. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.197.7.158 (Talk) 21:39, 03 November 2012 (UTC (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

That is not this wiki's call. That sidebar is owned by Curse. It is their call and they don't want to remove it. There are one or two more discussions somewhere about it, but the gist is it will always be there. A very efficient way to remove it without browser extensions is to register on the wiki, and place two simple lines in this page. See my code post two sections above this one. --Kanegasi C 04:54, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
And for info on using external tools/browser extensions, see User:Kaydeethree/Sidebar removal. --M0rphzone(talk) 03:27, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

More transparency from curse

You might have read the top of the pages noting that mc wiki has accidentally served malicious ads.

We have managed to identify the 3rd party, who is well known to be trusted, as the source of the script. They have been contacted about the compromise and have removed the malicious script being served to not only Curse, but possibly everyone with whom they work.

That's very nice and all, being "trusted", but as a really big community, which of most of us might have possibly come under this attack (bearing in mind that most recent browser probably blocked any attacks), we do deserve to know more. We deserve to know the name of the ad company being breached and threatening our computers' security. Currently the situation is like saying that you've come under attack by someone, but we can't tell you who. I know it is not the company's fault at all, but meaningful internet business needs transparency. I know I will most likely recieve a hardline "no way" from curse, them fearing that they may scare away advertisers producing their revenue, but still, we need transparency. I think most of us users would really like to know more about this, any information is welcome. --188.238.251.192 16:32, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

There was no "attack". It was simply a bad ad. Don't read too much into it. If you want to know the exact addresses that caused problems, check this page. --Kanegasi C 19:46, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

"Minepedia"

Occasionally (i do not know what triggers it) in my browser, Mozilla Firefox, the minecraft wiki looks JUST like Wikipedia, same icons, same format, and under the minecraft wiki symbol instead of saying "MINECRAFT WIKI" It says "Minepedia". Wtf? Is this normal? Is this supposed to happen? Is this some kind of bug with Curse? #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) 21:15, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

You'll need to provide a screenshot of some sort to help us see what you're talking about. --M0rphzone(talk) 03:09, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
Alright, when i get home today i'll use Bandicam and take a screenshot, but i will need to find it like that first. I can't do it now because, well, i'm at school, and i'm on a chromebook. I can give you system specs with DxDiag if you need that as well. #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) 12:26, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
Here is the image, i just caught it while visiting my user page with bandicam: File:Minepedia.jpeg and caught "Minepedia" again while looking at my watchlist! #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) Check out my project! 00:07, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, that's really weird. Why are you using the old white background (vector) style instead of the default minecraftforum background? So you're seeing this and the regular minecraftforum-style background? Did you clear the cookies and cache for minecraftwiki.net, and did you enable javascript/disable anything? Try updating your browser cause it's not happening on mine, (but I'm using Chrome). Also, you're running Chrome OS and you're using Firefox, right? There might be a compatibility issue involving either your OS or your browser, or both, but I'm not sure. --M0rphzone(talk) 22:44, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Actually no, as far as i knew Firefox didn't support Chrome OS, my chrome's screen is about 1/4 the size of my 1600x900 desktop screen. Firefox is up to date, using Windows XP; I've never had a cache problem with mozilla for any sites, i doubt that. It never happens to chrome either on the chrome OS or on my desktop. I never use Internet Explorer, so i don't know about that. I honestly hate internet explorer, it's too slow and crappy. Also the reason i made the icons so big is because my monitor can see all of it while still showing the curse panel, which i used my custom.css to remove. As far as cookies go, I honestly still don't really know what those are in terms of browsers, as smart as I am. It is really weird, it doesn't make any sense does it? Why would there be a random version of the site that looks EXACTLY like wikipedia? Is that possibly how the site used to be when it was first created or something? I'll try different combinations of keys to see if it is just something on my keyboard that i'm pressing which causes this, although i don't see why a key combination would do that. #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) Check out my project! 04:04, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
What you are seeing is the default theme, Vector, that comes with MediaWiki. Ultradude25 applied a custom theme to mimic the Minecraft Forums earlier this year by injecting CSS into the default theme using the MediaWiki:Vector.css page. When that fails to load (due to a bad server connection or otherwise) it defaults to the original theme (the one with the Minepedia logo). As you can see from the first image you posted, the page also failed to load your infobox properly. -- Hower64 04:28, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
I never knew that, and probably never would have known that if you hadn't told me :/ Hmn, i guess that's the issue then? Bad/slow internet? I personally connect to an extension since i am too far away from our original router to get any kind of good signal at all, mainly the issue with that being Steam won't connect through that internet connection, too weak. I already know my router extension is a piece of s***, every once in a while i need to turn it on and off, sometimes multiple times a day, others at times maybe not for 4 or 5 days, but those are rare. My dad will help me directly hook up with a wire, i believe the term is "Ethernet", so i will only have internet problems if they do, which they never do. I can't do it myself because, well, frankly I don't have permission to drill through the walls.–Preceding unsigned comment was added by Trigger hurt (Talk|Contribs) 05:00, 17 November 2012 (UTC). This is correct, seeing the default Vector look is a sign that the CSS didn't fully load. All of the default Vector stuff is packed at the top of the CSS page, while site-specific modifications are at the bottom. (iirc, the user styles are loaded in a separate page). As for why you're occasionally getting incomplete loads, I can't say. I haven't come around any other reports of this so far.
In case you're wondering why we choose to mod Vector rather than build a custom skin, it gives us a lot less headache. Modding Vector means that at worst, you have something end up unreadable or hidden on some pages after an upgrade until it's fixed. With a true custom skin, the wiki might completely break until the incompatibility is fixed, plus it can introduce problems with extensions and scripts you wouldn't otherwise have. Eyes 04:51, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for explaining completely. --M0rphzone(talk) 03:55, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
Re: triggerhurt, how far are you away from the main router anyways? An average router (802.11g) should have around 32 meter diameter range. Any decent wireless repeater should be able to double the range. Why not get a 802.11n router or use powerline adapters to extend the signal through your houses's electric wiring? Putting a cone/"dish" of aluminum foil behind the router antennas facing the direction of your computer also works. There are lifehacker guides for this stuff, and it's really not that hard to fix wireless issues. But using Ethernet is always better than wireless, so just use that if you can. --M0rphzone(talk) 04:25, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Herobrine

Im pretty sure i saw herobrine, I dont know is he real? at least i think its herobrine. Id like to know more about him. Thanks HerobrineReserch 00:47, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

Read the Herobrine page, it clearly states he doesn't exists, and there is no evidence in the code itself for Herobrine ,nor is there any kind of texture to use. He isn't real. It's a simple as that. If you saw herobrine, someone modded your game, changed a texture, saw someone with the herobrine skin, or the server is modded to make them look just like herobrine. #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) Check out my project! 05:13, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

Curious about something

When looking at Special:Preferences, I notice the "Live Preview" option says it requires javascript. This can't be true, It works just as well on my chromebook and on my PC. See, chromebooks do not support Java, for those of you who didn't know that already. This is one of the 2 reasons trying to play Minecraft on it doesn't work (the other being bad/outdated video card drivers). Unless there's some other explanation i'd like to know why it says that it requires javascript. #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) Check out my project! 12:45, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Despite the similar names, Java and JavaScript are completely unrelated programming languages. Whether or not Java is installed makes no difference to how browsers handle JavaScript code. -- Orthotope 20:36, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
Oh, so it doesn't matter whether java is installed or not, javascript is just what the web site/browser offers? I really am trying to learn java and how to make mods for minecraft, I'd love to see some of my ideas work. #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) Check out my project! 12:24, 20 November 2012 (UTC)

wtf?

Whenever i lose my internet connection (happens often) when i try to visit the minecraft wiki it keeps trying to reach this site and it starts to lag my mozilla out, but not too hard.

the url i copied is here. I have no clue why this is happening, so I came here to see if anyone else has seen this... Then it redirects me once i go online while it is spamming to this site. wtf is MyStart Incredibar? Never heard of it. #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) Check out my project! 00:36, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Sounds like your computer got a bit of browser-hijacking malware installed. A spyware removal program will help. -- Orthotope 01:13, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
Ironically, I have Avast Antivirus, and I have some spyware? Weird. #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) Check out my project! 16:03, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
Most antivirus software doesn't deal with spyware, unfortunately. There are some exceptions, but you'll usually need two separate programs. -- Orthotope 20:28, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
Okay I think I've fixed this. I decided to go into my Mozilla folder that hold plugins and such, and deleted a folder called something like 'MyStart' or 'Incredibar' or something like that. It never pops up anymore, hopefully that worked. Something I never even noticed was that my Internet Explorer has some kind of "AVG" bar or something like that. But I won't worry about that, since I hardly use it because it's so slow. #trigger_hurt(I|T|C) Check out my project! 14:57, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Bit of a problem...

So, I've just noticed that all of the block pages have the word "EPPPPPIIIIIIIICCCC" or something along those lines next to each of the block names. Is it just me who's having this problem?

Is there any way to hide the User creation log from showing in Recent changes without hiding all User pages? Currently, hiding the User pages is the only way to hide the User creation log. --Kanegasi C 18:37, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

Warn viewers not to add on to issue pages that have been moved.

These pages have been repeatedly marked for deletion. I put a message box on the page discouraging people that just couldn't realize that issues posted there weren't going to be fixed. I had also removed the ability to post there, but someone had undone it. Extreme 16:50, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

I'm Hungry! Please help

For some reason my character's ability to eat no longer works. Everything else seems to be fine. I have the same problem on each world I have saved. I have gone to the options area but do not see any way to address this. I have deleted the program, emptied the trash containing it, but when downloading it again, the problem is still there. It seems that the best resolution may be to reload the program, possibly through a forced update but I cannot find a way to do that. Any help on a resolution would be appreciated. I'm playing 1.4.5. I am using a mac osx 10.7 Thank you SpinelessMenace 05:19, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

I can only think of two reasons for not being able to eat. One is if your hunger bar is full (which usually includes Peaceful difficulty and Creative mode). The other is that your 'use item' control may have been changed to a different button/key, so double-check that setting. If it's not either of those, I have no idea what the problem is. -- Orthotope 08:05, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Add info to Admin Notice board.

I propose of adding this to the Notice Board:

  • Do not report pages here, add the template {{flag|optional reason}} flagged pages can be found at
Category:Pending Review

This was undone by Hower64 for "same functionality as delete". This is a flag template that represents the page needs to be reviewed, Not deleted. The exact meaning isn't defined and you may add any flag you wish.

I don't see when this template would ever be useful, however. If parts of the page are in violation of the rules, simply remove said parts. We have notice templates for specific problems which would be more helpful than a vague "Pending Review" category. Thus, this template is practically the same as {{delete}}. -- Hower64 22:48, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
