Java Edition is an edition of Minecraft for Mac, Windows 7, 8 or 10 or Linux. It is also the first edition that was ever made and was originally just called "Minecraft".
Originally called "Cave Game" by Markus Persson, he started to develop it from inspiration from Dwarf Fortress and Infimmer. He left Mojang Studios in 2014 when the company was bought by Microsoft, leaving Jens Bergensten behind the development.
This edition of Minecraft was officially released in 2011 and has been renamed to Java Edition because it is programmed in java. Over time it has been altered to provide a deep customization of the game with data packs and resource packs, and has been reverse engineerd allows the creation of mods and many plugins. Whether in terms of gameplay or customization on dedicated servers, Java Edition has become more robust and polished since it was introduced, and therefore was the best received by international critics.
For now, Mojang Studios aims to improve the game experience with one to two themed updates for year. For exemple, the Update Aquatic from 2018 brought more life to the oceanic biomes, with new mobs and structures. An update launched in 2015 in particular, the Combat Update, changed the core of combat as well as certains physics.
