Instructions & Page Organisation[]

Bug Reporting[]

This page is for bugs that:

  1. Are found in the version of the game specified in the article's title.
  2. Are found in an unmodified Minecraft game. If you think a bug you have found in a modded version is not the result of the mods you have added, please be sure to reproduce it in an unmodded game before posting it here.
  3. Are reproducible to a certain extent. Please provide a short description on how to reproduce your bug along with system specs if required.

You can read Classifying Bugs for further information on what you should and shouldn't add to this page.

Bug reports should be as concise as possible without anecdotal waffle or your own opinions. We want to keep a clean, easy-to-read list of bugs for the developers to check through. This is not a place to express gameplay ideas or improvements.

Please include your system specs, where appropriate, and instructions on how to reproduce the bug. If the bug caused the game to crash or freeze, there may be a file beginning with the word "crash" in your .minecraft directory containing the crash report. If not, you can follow these instructions to obtain a crash report. Once you have the report, wrap it in the following template:

{{cr|1=your crash report here}}

If you are unsure of an issue, it's good practice to post about it on the talk page to see whether others can reproduce it.

When adding your bug report:

  1. Always prepend it with one or more issue labels.
  2. Sign your report with --~~~~ so that we know who reported the bug.
  3. Leave a blank line between each bug report.
  4. Do not place bullet points before issue labels. They are reserved for use with comments.

Once you've added a bug report, please keep track of it. Others may post comments underneath your report requesting clarification or more information.

Bug reports that do not provide enough useful information or contain too much opinionated or anecdotal waffle may be subject to removal.

When commenting on bug reports:

  1. Prepend your comment point with an indented bullet point using the code ":*".
  2. Place the comment directly below the bug report without leaving a blank line between them.
  3. sign the comment with --~~~~. This is a deliberate exception to the usual wiki conventions; normally you should only add signatures to content on talk pages.

Please don't let debates about whether something is or is not a bug get out of hand. Similarly, don't clog bug reports with discussions of workarounds or possible fixes. If a bug or annoyance exceeds 10-12 lines of follow-up comments, move the entire follow-up discussion to the talk page and link to the discussion under the original bug.

Page Moderation[]

Please do not spontaneously delete a bug report unless it is blatant nonsense submitted by an unregistered user. Try to contact the submitter by user-talk first and tell them about your concerns. Almost all active submitters will be co-operative. Always assume good faith.

You may also leave a comment explaining why you feel the bug should be removed, allowing time for others to weigh in on the decision or for the original poster to give additional information. Where possible, removal of a bug should be a group decision, not a decision made by a single individual.

Please make sure issues are given the correct category, type, and priority: issues with blocks go in the Blocks section, issues with mobs go into the Mobs section, and so on. List bugs in order of importance ( [!!] > [!] > [X] ). Annoyances go into the Annoyances subsection, with major ones [A!] before minor ones [A] . Issues that have been marked as fixed or skipped are moved to the Fixed/Skipped section. Issues that Mojang cannot reproduce should be left in their original place.

If a new version of Minecraft is released, create that page with {{subst:Known bugs}}. Any changes made to this header should also be made to this template.

Issue Labels[]

Use issue labels to indicate the importance and nature of a bug.

Mandatory issue labels come first, and must be one of the following:

  • [!!] = {{bl|!!}} = Critical bug that can crash a Minecraft client or server.
  • [!] = {{bl|!}} = Major bug. Use this tag sparingly; if there is consensus your bug is not major, it will be downgraded.
  • [A!] = {{bl|a!}} = Major annoyance. Think very carefully before flagging an annoyance as major. Is it really more important than most minor bugs? Use this tag sparingly; if there is consensus your annoyance is not major, it will be downgraded.
  • [X] = {{bl}} = Minor bug.
  • [A] = {{bl|a}} = Annoyance. Note that this is not the same as feature requests, which is not what this page is for. Remember, leave gameplay ideas/solutions up to the developers.

Please also determine which game mode(s) your issue appears in, and flag it with the appropriate label(s) if any.[1] (Also, note that if, for example, a minor annoyance appears in both single-player and multiplayer, and in both creative and survival modes, you should label it as [A] , not [A] [SP] [MP] [Su] [Cr] .)

Optional labels can be added after mandatory labels.

Labels for indicating that an issue happens only in a particular game mode:

  • [SP] = {{bl|sp}} = Single-player.
  • [MP] = {{bl|mp}} = Multiplayer.
  • [Su] = {{bl|su}} = Survival mode.
  • [Cr] = {{bl|cr}} = Creative mode.

Labels for indicating that an issue is restricted to a particular OS:

  • macOS = {{OS|OSX}} = Mac OS X
  • Windows = {{OS|Win}} = Windows
  • Linux = {{OS|Linux}} = GNU/Linux

In addition, [?] = {{bl|?}} can be added to tag an issue that you are unsure of or that the community (on the discussion page) believes requires further vetting. Do not use this label to indicate this-is-not-a-bug. Instead, replace the issue's current label with [A] or [A!] . Furthermore, it is inappropriate to use this to flag something you disagree with. Instead, express your opinion in a comment.

Labels that Mojang (not you!) uses: (Please place these tags in front of existing issue labels. Do not remove the existing labels.)

  • [F] = Issue for which a fix will appear in the next update.
  • [N] = Not a bug; intended behavior. By definition, this label is inapplicable to annoyances. Annoyances are not bugs.
  • [S] = Issue that will not be fixed in the next update.
  • [U] = Issue that Mojang has tested but was unable to reproduce.

To produce these labels, use the following code: {{bl|c}} where c is the code of the label you wish to use. (e.g., a for annoyances, etc.)

The default issue type is minor bug; you can produce this label with the shorthand {{bl}}.

Further information is available at Classifying Bugs.

[!!] Windows all modes: When I push the button Open Texturepack Folder minecraft freezes. My System is Win 7 64bit, java 7u3 64bit, lwjgl2.8.3. It is a fresh minecraft installation and a newly installed java. I have mentioned this before, so you should test it with java 7u3 and not with 6u30 or so. I think it's a problem with java, but minecraft should work with java 7. I can't and I will not change always the java version, only to become minecraft to work.

  • I updated my win 7 64bit system to java 7u4 and still couldn't reproduce the issue :/ If the client is freezing it should be dumping a crash report to your .minecraft folder? --Mattrition 12:15, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Sadly there is no dump. Minecraft freezes. I have to use taskmanager. It says minecraft is running, but it is freezed. When I interrupt minecraft, a window appears with 'quit program'. After quitting, the minecraft windows disapears and a windows error message pops up, which says that there was a problem with java and if I want to find a solution online. And yes, it is a freshly installed java 7u4, not updated or so, new installed.

[!!] macOSAfter about 5 minutes of being connected, the server disconnects the client and creates a crash report. After this, the server becomes unresponsive over the network, but still responds to console commands.

[!] [SP] macOS Minecraft keeps running out of memory upon downloading terrain, but does not crash, instead spurring a "Read Timed Out." It seems that Minecraft (or that instance) is not running using all of it's allocated memory, and instead is using ~63MB, apparently not enough for loading the world. • Could you see if it's saving an error report? There might be one being saved either in the .minecraft folder, .minecraft/server folder, or even one of the server.log's --Mattrition 12:18, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Yeah, it had a report. Might not be the memory, but oh well. --Wormy14 11:17, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

[!] [SP] When trying to open an old world or when trying to create a new world, the game displays a dirt screen, then "Connecting to server" before displaying "Could not connect to server; Connection refused: connect" -- 17:53, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

[!] Enchantment tables cannot be used to enchant tools and weapons.

  • You can still enchant armor. --RichardG867 14:59, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
  • It seems to me, that the enchantment on old enchanted items is no longer displayed (mouseover is only "Diamond Pickaxe", shimmering effect is missing), the enchantment seems to work, though. -- omu, 8.5.2012

[X] Movement is less smooth (its now like 12w17a mp).

[X] [SP] Creative mode doesn't work in singleplayer. Even with a newly generated world.

  • You have to use a command to change it now. But I doubt this was intended. (Ps, added the [x] label) Mustek 13:57, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Also agreed. Creative mode does not work in single player. No blocks appear in a new game, many blocks disappear in a previous game, float doesn't work and I think mods are also broken since I tested both with and without mods.

-- 13:46, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] Respawning is glitchy, your view location rapidly switches between your old location and your new location

[X] Tool repair does not work anymore.

  • Maybe it got removed because it was kinda wasteful... <MCKMan>
  • Repairing gives you a new tool with more remaining uses than the sum of the remaining uses of the two repaired tools, so in what way is it wasteful exactly?
  • I think this is somehow related to enchanting bug, because you can repair armor. 12:06, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] When you die in single player your skin is now reset to the "Steve" default. --Gmng24 23:10, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

  • This definitely happens and it's definitely a bug. --Mattrition 14:16, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
  • I think this has been around for a while. At least for as long as I can remember. Probably doesn't make it any less of a bug though. 12:41, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

[A!] [?] Sapling drops have been reduced significantly to the point of being unable to perpetuate a forest for extended periods of time, and making tree farms impossible to maintain.

  • Are you sure this is true? I do not seem to have this problem. Tested on SSP, growing Oak trees. -- 15:51, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

[A!] I think that this new possibility of using a singleplayer world as a local server would be better if optional: in my worlds, I can't pause in caves or at night, because the game doesn't stop, like in multiplayer... (I know that the annoyance of the pause menu was already reported)

  • This isn't something you should report - its not a forum to express your own opinions and ideas on the game. This is a place to report subjective bugs. But I'll say now that this is obviously not the finished product and they'll surely allow you to pause the game when you're the only one on the server. --Mattrition 10:38, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

[A!] The enchanting system has always, and continues to be frustratingly unfair. sometimes producing Efficiency III when a level 50 enchant is used. Considering you need to kill NINE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE zombies/creepers etc, to get to Level 50, users are naturally in consensus that, to quote Yahtzee Croshaw, the ratio of difficulty to find versus actual usefulness is completely arbitrary. While we respect the mystique Mojang have tried to create about enchanting, the numbers need serious review. Kizzycocoa

  • There is hardly a consensus regarding this. I think the enchanting system is pretty well balanced. It would be much less fun if it were any less random. The only thing I would like changed is the ease of picking the desired enchantment level, so you don't have to spend 15 minutes trying to get a specific level. Maybe a slider or something. But hardly a Major Annoyance, there are tons of real bugs that have yet to be fixed. Therefore, demoting this from Major Annoyance to Annoyance. --Kcin 15:10, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Repromoting. consensus has been reached many times that the enchanting system sucks. Please read past known bug talk pages.
  • This is a long standing issue. I respectfully ask that in future, you take issues to the talk page and check previous talk pages, before asserting your own opinions on the entire community. --Kizzycocoa 19:11, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Agreed (I readded this issue). I can't stand enchanting being underpowered. I got silk touch I and nothing else on a level 50 diamond axe, which is unacceptable. Calinou - talk × contribs » 19:28, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
  • I have experienced this as well. I enchant my diamond swords more than anything else, and for the past three times I've enchanted a new diamond sword (same survival world), I have always gotten Bane of Arthropods (III, IV, and V, ascending). Not that Bane of Arthropods is a bad achievement, but I expected that at level 37 (that was the level which I got V), I would get something different than Bane of Arthropods. -- 16:09, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

[A!] When playing offline, our username will be "Player", so if we want to play without internet with friends on a local server, there will be a problem since we're all "Player" (while we typed our real username in the launcher).

  • This has been a "feature" ever since offline mode existed, not merely 12w18a. Cronos Dage 04:46, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
  • It's actually a launcher bug. (Are you CronosDage on reddit? If so, you messed up your emote :P [](/ra209) doesn't exist. I guess you meant [](/ra20)) --Nallar 13:12, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] After killing the dragon, it spawns 2 portals. When relogging, the second portal is gone. [1] Mustek 14:51, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Was this MP or SP? I couldn't recreate it in SP. -- 18:11, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
    • Singleplayer, but I've had it occur on multiplayer too. Mustek 18:36, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Maybe the second portal is a client-side generated one. --MCKMan 16:50, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] [SP] The server (when in singleplayer) seems to revert blocks. This happened randomly when mining, once every small while it'll revert 2-3 changes making mined blocks reappear. -- 20:07, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

[A] Ready to be harvested wheat is still green rather than completely yellow. It would be more helpful if the plant turned completely yellow as it does in real life. (Trenix 16:00, 9 May 2012 (UTC))

World Generation[]

[!] Sometimes when returning from the Nether chunks of glowstone will be generated in the overworld, they will yield the block they replaced, allowing for dupe bugs if generated under sugar cane. Here you can see an example (attempting to reproduce and make a video about it). --MCKMan 11:53, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

[!] The Nether and The End will not generate when you enter them for the first time. Reconnecting will sometimes generate the world. --

  • The Nether is completely empty and will not generate. Entered the portal in Creative mode. The client/server crashed as well when I fell out of the world and respawned, "Internal server error". The world will still not generate when I'm there.
  • Mind posting the crashlog, as I'm not getting this. Chunks load very slow in the nether though. Mustek 14:37, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
  • I've added the exception from server.log that I get when I spawn in the Nether for the first time --Mattrition 14:32, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Seems like the worlds don't load when you enter a portal. It does load after you disconnect and reconnect. Mustek 14:39, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Reconnecting generated for me aswell. -- 14:50, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
  • On the other hand reconnecting will not to generate The End on my side. 16:01, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
  • I checked, and it spawns you away from the island at times, you have to fly to the end, if you are in creative mode. --~DaleK 17:06, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

[!] Just like abandoned mineshafts were before the floors were implemented, strongholds generate weirdly when they cross a ravine. The seed -623160645725253637 is a good example of this with a stronghold in a hole close to spawn which crosses an underground ravine. TorchicBlaziken 22:00, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

[!] Created a new world with seed -623160645725253637 (like above) but minecraft fails to connect. (Internal exception: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out) Using other seeds seem to work fine. Only tested on SP.

  • Confirmed, I added the crash report that gets saved after attempting to create the world and log in. --Mattrition 15:26, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] World Generation may be bugged, Mountains and Ocean intercept on a new world. --Firefox4 04:04, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

  • As far as I know, the world generation code hasn't been changed recently. --Mattrition 08:45, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
  • That would make for a really epic base! I wouldn't even report this. --MCKMan 10:51, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] Bonus chests are not generating!

  • This is because multiplayer has not had bonus chests implemented as of yet, and in this snapshot, singleplayer has 'become' multiplayer.--Pigisdeado - talk + contribs 16:05, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] Villages may generate very buggy half houses, relog fixes the problem.

[X] Villages spawn very bumpy roads, and sometimes a pit in front of a house that villagers can not get across.

[A] [SP] When generating a world, the progress is hidden. Minecraft5025 22:10, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] When a mob and a player occupy the same position the player won't be pushed/nudged at all but the mob will. (When two players are in the same space they also won't push/nudge each other.)

  • I agree that a mob not being able to push a player is a bug, however players not being able to nudge each-other is intended to prevent you from pushing someone off the edge of a cliff. --MCKMan 10:03, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] In SSP, Mobs have lagging issues like in SMP. (Made some experiments on creepers, they are buggy like in SMP!) Serpen64 21:09, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Not a major bug. I don't think you can call it a bug at all, since lagging issues are an optimization problem rather than an error in the code. But I'll let the community decide that. --Mattrition 14:01, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] Mobs/Animals can push each other through wall, then they seemingly appear where they actually aren't. You can boost this effect, by making small quarters, on animals wielding wheat, and on mobs aggravating them. Strangely they dont get pushed through fence. 11:32, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] [MP] When you let tamed animals (dogs, cats) sit down, after a while they spawn near you and on a server (v. 1.2.5) this is not only annoying this is very bad, because many people have fun to kill your animal. This is the reason why I classify this as a bug. Also this is mentioned every version and snapshot since, I think 1.1. It also happens in single player, but there it is not so bad. Thanks for your attention. reptile311

[X] Mobs will walk past the 30,000,000 block hard limit and fall into the void since they cannot distinguish between normal chunks and the non-solid far lands chunks. --Privatejfx141 18:27, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Corrected your grammar for clarity. --MCKMan 09:53, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
  • And I further corrected yours. E-102 Gamma 05:59, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
  • What do you mean? I don't remember having any errors there. --MCKMan 10:53, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

[A] In biomes where snow golems die, or cannot produce snow, this effect persists even far underground, or at nighttime. If the "logic" behind the effect, is that these biomes are "hot" (which isn't even necessarily true of plains and swamps), it doesn't make sense that surface temperature can subsist so many meters under the surface, or at times when the temperature is much lower (at nighttime, deserts are extremely cold). I don't really know how to fix this, though.

  • Actually, deeper than a few meters, temperature raises underground (around 3°C/100 meters).

[X] The magma cube's jumping animation is missing. Mustek 13:56, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] some Enderman animations (like the nice mouth and the tremble animation) are missing.

[X] When there is a thunderstorm in multiplayer the sky does not darken.

[X] When rain/snow starts, then no starting animation is done. For reference, in single player downfall starts by slowly fading in. The same applies when weather stops.

[X] [SP] [?] Can't use Commands in singleplayer, not even /help

  • Yes you can. You are probably don't have cheats allowed. -ZuppaHD 00:44, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] You can get the infamous "error wool block" if you type in the commands /give <player> 35 1 16. Here is an example with the drop and here is an example with held item (Note: it returns to data value 0 if placed).--MCKMan 12:05, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Vote to remove. Not a bug, the error wool block is wool with damage value of 16. You asked the server to give you wool with damage value 16. What were you expecting it to do? --Nallar 16:06, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
  • This is a bug because if you ask for Stone Bricks with a damage value of 4, you will get the normal ones! --MCKMan 10:56, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] Using the /give command to give yourself multiple tools causes them to be picked up as a stack. They can then be used as a stack and all of their durabilities will decrease equally.

  • I tried this with golden shovels (a stack of 64) and after the durability decreased only one of the 64 shovels was depleted. I agree with the fact that stacking them IS a bug and it should be fixed. --MCKMan 18:08, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
  • One solution would be, when stack has more than 1, items taken from stack will be full health. I like fact that they can be stacked (by give command), for instance if you have them on dispenser. 08:47, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] The /kill command will show "*** fell out of the world" and "Ouch. That look like it hurt.", but the first line should not appear.

[X] [SP] You can ban, IP ban ( or kick yourself in singleplayer, leaving a server instance running and forcing you to remove yourself from the banlist

  • If you did this, you can unban yourself by removing the "banned-players.txt" and "banned-ips.txt" files in the "server" folder in ".minecraft". Calinou - talk × contribs » 19:28, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] [Su] The /kill command does not work (no op) (Su mp).

  • Are you even listening to yourself? You just said you aren't op. Non-Ops aren't supposed to be able to use commands! I think this should be removed... Anyone? --MCKMan 10:58, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
  • /tell, /me, and /kill can be used by all players, not just ops. —kpreid 13:29, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

[A] Cheats cannot be turned off!

  • This is probably intended behaviour, would be common sense that you don't want to enable cheats when playing legit all the time and reversed, demoting to annoyance
  • I believe the post is referencing how "cheats" are enabled by default, and can't be disabled. It would seem that this has to do with the local hosting transition, as all SP worlds behave like servers now...

In-Game Interfaces/HUD[]

[X] [SP] When going to the Game Menu while in-game, the game no longer pauses in single player.

  • This happens with any GUI that normally pauses the game as a result of single player being hosted as a server

[X] The client is unable to download some texture packs. Examples of not working links :

  • I don't have time to check the links for their resolution, but at the moment clients cannot download texture packs with a larger resolution than 16x16 without being patched using a program such as MCPatcher. See Dinnerbone's reply to me. However, the specific link you're giving may be the 16x16 version of Painterly, I'm not sure. Cronos Dage 04:51, 6 May 2012 (UTC)
  • It's the 16x16 version. By the way, I wasn't aware there is a 32x32 version. --Gimlao 10:31, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

[X] You cannot shift-click items from your inventory into the last slot of brewing stands.

[A] The server asks you if you want to 'automagically' install a texture pack even if you already have it. (I hope this made sense) --MCKMan 11:36, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

  • It's not so much asking you to download, but asking if you want this particular server to decide what texture packs you should use on it. Dinnerbone 21:24, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

[!] Ever since the first release of 1.2 the download dosen't come with sound files in the resources folder. [X] Sound system appears to only properly launch half the time you start the game, not sure if this is a bug or something with my client

  • This happens with me as well. It's been happening since about 1.2 20:32, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
  • This is odd. I thought they fixed this in 1.2.5. --MCKMan 13:13, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
  • It seems that for some reason, the stats/prefs reset, which means music/sounds are not enabled, and so Soundsystem has no reason to start. It will start if invoked, like moving the sound sliders. --Wormy14 19:45, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Language/Text Files[]

[!!] If you set the language to Espanol (Mexico) and click Opciones then Controles, the game crashes. This bug has existed since languages were first implemented. NetherrackCreeper (talk) 16:40, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

  • This is a bug that can crash your client, hence the [!!] tag. User:heldplayer 20:14, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks, I never find crash bugs in the game so I got used to never using the [!!]. NetherrackCreeper (talk) 18:49, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

[A] The single player text is misleading, as you are now actually hosting a Minecraft server. Singleplayer should now say something along the lines of Start Game and Multiplayer should say Join Game. NetherrackCreeper (talk) 16:40, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
