Organization of This Page & Instructions

Please do not spontaneously delete an issue report or comment, unless it is patent nonsense submitted by someone who has not logged in. If possible, contact the submitter by user-talk first and tell them about your concerns. They will almost certainly oblige. As always, assume good faith.

If you're unsure of an issue, it's good practice to post about it on the talk page to see whether others can reproduce it. Make sure you're testing the bug in the correct version (for this page, that's weekly 12w05b) with no mods installed. Also, make sure to proofread your issue report before submitting it; unintelligible issue reports come off as inconsiderate and disrespectful. Finally, please determine which game mode(s) your issue appears in, and flag it with the appropriate label(s).[1] (Also, note that if, for example, a minor annoyance appears in both single-player and multiplayer, and in both creative and survival modes, you should label it as [A] , not [A] [SP] [MP] [Su] [Cr] .)

Be sure to sort issues by category, type, and priority: redstone issues go in the Redstone section, etc.; bugs go in the Bugs subsection, with major bugs listed before minor bugs, annoyances in the Annoyances subsection, with major ones before minor ones, and issues that Jeb has marked as fixed or skipped are moved to the Fixed/Skipped section. Issues that Jeb cannot reproduce, however, are to remain in their original place.

Please sign all issue reports and comments by typing ~~~ (three tildes; tilde may be found above Tab ↹ on USA keyboards, and to the right of @ on British keyboards).

There is no need to place bullet points before issue labels. Use bullet points only for comments. Be sure to leave a single totally blank line before each new issue (but not before comments), unless the issue appears directly beneath a header.

Issue Labels

Please mark your issue with one of these issue labels: (listed from highest priority to lowest)

  • [!!] = {{bl|!!}} = Critical bug that can crash a Minecraft client or server.
  • [!] = {{bl|!}} = Major bug. Use this tag sparingly; if there is consensus your bug is not major, it will be downgraded.
  • [A!] = {{bl|a!}} = Major annoyance. Think very carefully before flagging an annoyance as major. Is it really more important than most minor bugs? Use this tag sparingly; if there is consensus your annoyance is not major, it will be downgraded.
  • [X] = {{bl}} = Minor bug.
  • [A] = {{bl|a}} = Annoyance.
  • [?] = {{bl|?}} = Potential issue that you are unsure of or that the community (on the discussion page) believes requires further vetting. Note: do not use this label to indicate this-is-not-a-bug; instead, replace the issue's current label with [A] or [A!]. Furthermore, it is inappropriate to use this to flag something you disagree with; instead, express your opinion in a comment. When you apply this label to an issue, place it after the issue's existing labels; do not remove those labels.

Labels for indicating that an issue happens only in a particular game mode: (These labels cannot stand alone; you must use them in addition to, not instead of, the ones listed above.)

  • [SP] = {{bl|sp}} = Single-player.
  • [MP] = {{bl|mp}} = Multiplayer.
  • [Su] = {{bl|su}} = Survival mode.
  • [Cr] = {{bl|cr}} = Creative mode.

Labels for indicating that an issue is restricted to a particular OS:

  • macOS = {{OS|OSX}} = Mac OS X
  • Windows = {{OS|Win}} = Windows
  • Linux = {{OS|Linux}} = GNU/Linux

Labels that Mojang (not you!) uses: (Please place these tags in front of existing issue labels; do not remove the existing labels.)

  • [F] = Issue for which a fix will appear in the next update.
  • [N] = Not a bug; intended behavior. By definition, this label is inapplicable to annoyances; annoyances are not bugs.
  • [S] = Issue that will not be fixed in the next update.
  • [U] = Issue that Mojang has tested but was unable to reproduce.

To produce these labels, use the following code: {{bl|c}} where c is the code of the label you wish to use. (e.g., a for annoyances, etc.)

The default issue type is minor bug; you can produce this label with the shorthand {{bl}}.

Crashing/System

Bugs

Annoyances

[!!] After entering the Nether, the client or server will freeze up after a period of time, regardless of what dimension you are in. (Tested in single-player.)

[A!] Many chunk errors have generated, causing a few worlds to be trashed (Not tested on sp).

[A] Windows[SP] offline. With every snapshot the fps go down. In 1.1 20 - 30, now 10 - 20. Also if you look in two certain directions, the fps slow down. In the other two directions the fps goes up.

Fixed/Skipped

Redstone/Pistons

Bugs

[X] Standing middle of block that piston pushes, makes you fall through pushed block. (tested on sp) 188.238.156.140

[X] If you use piston to break redstone signal that powers another piston, signal goes away but piston does not retrac. (tested on sp) 188.238.156.140

[X] Standing on downwards pointing piston, while it retracts, makes you fall through. Also possible to walk through retracting piston. (tested on sp) 188.238.156.140

[X] This kind of 1-2 tick clock gets jammed after save/load sometimes. (tested on sp) 188.238.156.140

Blocks

Bugs

[X] Mobs can be right-clicked through glass. This is very annoying with cats and wolves; in fact just now I was trying to build a glass structure with sitting cats and I kept accidentally making the cats stand when I was trying to put down more glass.

[X] Blocks can be brought into the top most layer by using liquids. Their top surface are completely black.

Annoyances

[X] You can place blocks over wild grass and it will replace the grass and no seeds will be dropped.

  • I think this was intentional. GhengopelALPHA
  • This is intentional, yeh.
  • You can easily grow it back with a bit of bone meal.

Crafting/Enchanting/Brewing/Interface

Bugs

[X] [SP] If you put enough Items in for 2 Pickaxes or other things that can't stack, instead of whatever amount you should get, you only get 1.

  • anyone experiencing this bug, are you sure you are running 12w05b and not 12w05a? because i just tested b version and bug did not appear single- or multiplayer. 188.238.156.140
  • This was supposed to be fixed in 12w05b. 109.246.254.186 17:22, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

[!] In SSP, making a valid crafting recipe in the inventory (Not a crafting bench), then leaving the inventory without taking out the item that was crafted, causes all the recipe's resources to fall to the floor but leaves the crafted item in the inventory crafted box. This allows for item duplication. SMP not tested, but imagine this with diamond blocks. ;) - Video showing bug: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjoOe8D5fMY

Annoyances

[A] Although Jeb previously stated that the Silk Touch enchant was 'fixed in an unacceptable way,' the enchant is still almost useless. There is no reason ice blocks should not be available using silk touch. Ice blocks should simply disappear when placed in the nether, exactly how water does when placed. SvenBoogie 06:29, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

  • Better yet, ice should explode when placed in the nether. It makes more sense than exploding beds.

[A] Although all types of giant mushroom blocks can be mined using a Silk Touch enchanted pick, once mined all giant mushroom blocks appear exactly the same, with the beige spotted texture from the top of giant brown mushrooms. Despite all blocks looking the same once being mined, and having the exact same name in the inventory screen, they will not stack together depending on what type of mushroom they are mined from originally. SvenBoogie 08:50, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

[X] In the statistics menu, when showing the Items section, spawn eggs are called 'Spawn'.

Gameplay

Bugs

[X] [MP] A very old bug but, Jeb, will you fix the mob spawners one day ?

Instead of seeing a pig inside it til the end of time. =p
( You could also add them to the creative inventory, by the way. )

[X] [Su] Shearing a Dead Bush now makes it into Pickup form, but does not damage the Shears.

[X] [Cr] Horizontal movement through fluids while flying is very slow. It should be sped up like every other form of motion is when flying.

Annoyances

[A] Direct Connect doesn't show the latest Server Address used.

[A] We can't select a world and enter it by pressing Enter, like with the multiplayer list.

[A] In the multiplayer list, the latest entered server is not on top of the list, like the singleplayer list.

[A] When exiting a world while in a boat, and then rentering the world, you will be ejected from the boat. Tested is SSP creative and survival.

[A] Direct Connect doesn't show the latest Server Address used.

[A] If only there could be a /tp <player> <X,Y,Z> command...

[A] Saplings in swamp biomes will not grow swamp trees.

  • Swamp trees are normal trees. Also this belongs to blocks. 188.238.156.140
  • They are not normal trees, just compare the swamp trees to the normal ones.
  • They really should have a different tree for swamps, at least it would make them less stale.
  • They are normal trees but the biome just changes their shading I think we have covered this already.

[A] macOS Pasting text into Minecraft only works with Ctrl-V and not Command-V, which is the Mac command for pasting.

[A!] On older worlds like 1.7 etc. ice starts to generate on coast lines. This happens on mp and sp. --82.131.114.214 15:41, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

  • More than likely, biome shuffle. Terrain generation (and biome locations) were radically changed between 1.7 and 1.8, and a smaller change between 1.8 and Full Version 1.0. 1.0 and 1.1 are consistent despite adding "edge" biomes (though taiga biomes were unintentionally not-snowy in 1.0 and fixed in 1.1), but with the addition of jungles in 12w03a, more than likely 1.2 will shuffle everything again. --67.183.173.198 17:24, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

[A] In SMP, PVP = false, attacking another player with a fire aspect sword sets them on fire

Fixed/Skipped

NPC/Animals

Bugs

[X] Cats won't breed. This bug can be solved by saving the world and then loading it.

[X] Cats and kittens sometimes won't scare of creepers, they get close enough to explode.

[X] Animals wont follow you over water when wheat is in hand, once they move follow you in the water they just stop and can't be made to follow you again, until they get out of the water

[X] Cats' head, when sneaking to kill a chicken, will disassemble from their body.

[X] Cat's randomly duplicate themselves creating another cat that responds to the first cat's owner. Discovered in SMP.

Annoyances

[A!] Animals, when you have wheat in your hand, will not follow you if they go into water that is not shallow, and get stuck there. This is a HUGE annoyance, as animals are very valuable.

[A!] When you attack a creeper, tamed dogs won't attack it with you. Discovered in SMP.

*Not a bug, this is intended. Dogs would pretty much always die this way.

[A] Cats currently teleport to your location when you are hit by a mob (like dogs) and then do nothing except get in the way while you're trying to defend yourself. I imagine that this is a work-in-progress bug since the cat AI is still being tweaked.

  • There also seems to be a glitch where you won't be able to get them to sit down after they teleport. Probably due to the fact that they are already technically "sitting" but become standing after they teleport to protect you.

Fixed/Skipped

Mobs

Bugs

[X] Creepers and skeletons no longer strafe

[X] sometimes the creeper explode when dieing. tested on mp.

  • also happens on sp, and A LOT. if you are near the creeper, it explodes anyway.

[X] monsters hurt from fall damage seem to jump about uncontrollably.

  • can be fixed by saving the world and then loading it.

[X] In SMP, in the nether, ghasts would spawn on the surface of netherrack and stay immobile, however fireball spewing still occurs. ( This happened on my server, don't know if it does on others. )

[!] [SP] If you let a cat sit in a offline game, save and play then online (not multiplayer) you can't let the cat stand and move. The cat don't respond. It also works vice versa, when you play online and then offline. Tested in flat world and creative.

  • This is a bug that has been around as long as wolves have, and is not restricted to any OS. The reason is that cats and dogs are bound to the player by their name, even in singleplayer, and Minecraft treats "Player" (the name of the player in offline mode) as a separate player from your identity in online mode. I agree that this is a problem. If possible, a special exception should be made for singleplayer so that single-player tames will obey anyone.

[!] After you die, aggressive mobs will still attack your dead body. Happens with all aggressive mobs; especially annoying with creepers. Tested in SSP.

World generator

Bugs

Annoyances

[A] A super-flat world generates to low for people who want to work with redstone. It is hard to wire around void level.

Fixed/Skipped

Graphical/Lightning

Bugs

[X] When destroying a block under a Fence Gate and then replacing the now empty area with another block, the dropped resource of the first block will sometimes appear black. Example: File:2012-02-03 13.44.05.png

Sound

Bugs

Annoyances

[A] Rain sound does not play in some areas, mostly the hills biome.

Fixed/Skipped

Language

Bugs

[X] I am not familiar but it Afrikaans "multispeler" Is not capitalized

[X] In the original en_US language file, the "B" in "Lava bucket" and "Golden boots" is not capitalized. Related items set a precedent for this letter to be capitalized in the names of these items. This error has been fixed by the community in other English-language translations, but only Mojang is able to change the original en_US language file.

[X] In Catalan, adjectives go after the noun. This affects to potions. And in Catalan, capital leters should be able to be accentuated.

Annoyances

[A] The splashes at the Title screen are not translated. (Possibly a future feature?)

  • Many splashes are not translatable because they contain jokes with phrasal verbs etc.

[A] The ending and credits are not translated.
