Organization of This Page & Instructions[]

Note: When reporting or commenting on a bug or annoyance, please sign your remarks with ~~~. This is a deliberate exception to the usual wiki conventions; normally you should only add signatures to content on talk pages.

Please do not spontaneously delete an issue report or comment unless it is patent nonsense submitted by someone who has not logged in. Try to contact the submitter by user-talk first and tell them about your concerns. Almost all genuine, active submitters will be co-operative. Always assume good faith.

If you're unsure of an issue, it's good practice to post about it on the talk page to see whether others can reproduce it. Make sure you're testing the bug in the correct version (for this page, that's the 1.2.5 pre-release, labeled '1.2.5pre') with no mods installed. Also, make sure to proofread your issue report before submitting it; unintelligible issue reports come off as inconsiderate and disrespectful. Finally, please determine which game mode(s) your issue appears in, and flag it with the appropriate label(s).[1] (Also, note that if, for example, a minor annoyance appears in both single-player and multiplayer, and in both creative and survival modes, you should label it as [A] , not [A] [SP] [MP] [Su] [Cr] .)

Please make sure issues are given the correct category, type, and priority: redstone issues go in the Redstone section, problems with mobs go into the Mobs section, and so on. List crash bugs [!!] first, then major bugs [!] , then minor ones [X] . Annoyances go into the Annoyances subsection, with major ones [A!] before minor ones [A] . Issues that have been marked as fixed or skipped are moved to the Fixed/Skipped section. Issues that Mojang cannot reproduce should be left in their original place.

Please sign all issue reports and comments by typing ~~~ (three tildes; tilde may be found above Tab ↹ on USA keyboards, and to the right of @ on British keyboards).

There is no need to place bullet points before issue labels. Use bullet points only for comments. Be sure to leave a single totally blank line before each new issue (but not before comments), unless the issue appears directly beneath a header.

Note: Please don't let debates about whether something is or is not a bug or annoyance get out of hand. Similarly, don't clog bug reports with discussions of workarounds or possible fixes. If ever a bug or annoyance ends up with more than about 10-12 lines of follow-up comments, please move the entire follow-up discussion to the talk page and put in a cross-reference to the discussion under the original bug.

Issue Labels[]

Please mark your issue with one of these issue labels: (listed from highest priority to lowest)

  • [!!] = {{bl|!!}} = Critical bug that can crash a Minecraft client or server.
  • [!] = {{bl|!}} = Major bug. Use this tag sparingly; if there is consensus your bug is not major, it will be downgraded.
  • [A!] = {{bl|a!}} = Major annoyance. Think very carefully before flagging an annoyance as major. Is it really more important than most minor bugs? Use this tag sparingly; if there is consensus your annoyance is not major, it will be downgraded.
  • [X] = {{bl}} = Minor bug.
  • [A] = {{bl|a}} = Annoyance.
  • [?] = {{bl|?}} = Potential issue that you are unsure of or that the community (on the discussion page) believes requires further vetting. Note: do not use this label to indicate this-is-not-a-bug; instead, replace the issue's current label with [A] or [A!]. Furthermore, it is inappropriate to use this to flag something you disagree with; instead, express your opinion in a comment. When you apply this label to an issue, place it after the issue's existing labels; do not remove those labels.

Labels for indicating that an issue happens only in a particular game mode: (These labels cannot stand alone; you must use them in addition to, not instead of, the ones listed above.)

  • [SP] = {{bl|sp}} = Single-player.
  • [MP] = {{bl|mp}} = Multiplayer.
  • [Su] = {{bl|su}} = Survival mode.
  • [Cr] = {{bl|cr}} = Creative mode.

Labels for indicating that an issue is restricted to a particular OS:

  • macOS = {{OS|OSX}} = Mac OS X
  • Windows = {{OS|Win}} = Windows
  • Linux = {{OS|Linux}} = GNU/Linux

Labels that Mojang (not you!) uses: (Please place these tags in front of existing issue labels; do not remove the existing labels.)

  • [F] = Issue for which a fix will appear in the next update.
  • [N] = Not a bug; intended behavior. By definition, this label is inapplicable to annoyances; annoyances are not bugs.
  • [S] = Issue that will not be fixed in the next update.
  • [U] = Issue that Mojang has tested but was unable to reproduce.

To produce these labels, use the following code: {{bl|c}} where c is the code of the label you wish to use. (e.g., a for annoyances, etc.)

The default issue type is minor bug; you can produce this label with the shorthand {{bl}}.

[!] Mobs (including the player) can breathe when submerged in lava. (I have tested this in Survival with a potion of fire resistance.) This is certainly not intended behavior.

  • This is not a bug you could breath in lava in real life notch even said that you was supposed to breath in lava. --MasterFighter

[X] End Portals are invisible from below.

[!] update 1.2.5 just came out.I got the update but now every time I try to login the minecraft window just goes black.

[A!] Frame rate tends to decrease as you go deeper underground and vice versa.

[A] It is very annoying that you can't make portals that are 3 blocks wide, it can make you have to give the entire place a makeover just so the portal can fit symmetrically.

  • Downgraded to Annoyance.

[A!] It is frustrating that there is no storage block for the most common and inventory-clogging ores, redstone and coal, yet there is one for the rarest ore, diamond.

[A] Once you already have a good wheat farm, you don't need to keep wheat seeds because the seeds that the grown wheat drops will be enough for replanting your farm, and you will have too many useless seeds left over after. They are annoying to dispose of and they would at least be useful if they could be used as (inefficient) fuel in a furnace.

  • If seeds were used for breeding animals while wheat is used for getting them to follow you (or vice-versa), that would give extra seeds a purpose as well as solving the problems people have where unbreedable animals get in their way while they try to feed the others. --Rifflesby 00:50, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
  • Downgraded to Annoyance.

[A] Walking over a block plays the sound effect like normal, however when you stand still and jump up and down on the block no sound effect plays.

[A!] The enchanting system has always, and continues to be frustratingly unfair. sometimes producing Efficiency III when a level 50 enchant is used. Considering you need to kill NINE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE zombies/creepers etc, to get to Level 50, users are naturally in consensus that, to quote Yahtzee Croshaw, the ratio of difficulty to find versus actual usefulness is completely arbitrary. While we respect the mystique Mojang have tried to create about enchanting, the numbers need serious review. Kizzycocoa

[A] The light levels should be on a separate line from the line with the biome detector. Since they are in the middle of the screen they get in the way.

Items and Tools[]

[X] [Cr] Saddles are used up when used on pigs.

[X] [Cr] Raw Fish is used up when used on ocelots.

[X] [Cr] Dyes are used up when used on sheep.

[X] [Cr] Potions and Splash Potions are used up. Consider how fun it would be if you could go flying around rapid-firing splash potions; this should be no exception to the rule that no item gets used up in Creative.

[A] When using tools to break blocks that are instantly broken with a single bare-handed punch, durability on that tool is used up. This is incredibly annoying when doing something such as trying to kill a chicken in tall grass.

That's your fault. Also mark your posts. --Moxxy 22:32, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
  • And the doctor replied, "Well, don't do that." It wouldn't be a bad change. You don't lose durability using a tool to put out fire. --Rifflesby 23:33, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

[A] Leather armor, and leather itself by extension, is useless. It was only ever useful as a decent stopgap when animals could respawn and you could go around killing every cow you saw without having to worry about extinction. Now, however, it is far easier to just mine iron for iron armor. Even golden armor is superior to it in every way, as it has higher defense, durability, and enchantability.

  • It sees some use in player-made challenge maps where you're given limited resources, but yeah, it could use some more purpose in the main game. My suggestions: leather-only armor enchantments, and leather blocks/slabs/steps for making furniture. --Rifflesby 01:16, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

[X] When smelting Redstone and Lapis Lazuli Ore, it only gives you one measly Redstone or Lapis Lazuli.

[A!] [SP] End Portals are not in Creative Mode's Item Selection. So, if a player breaks all the portal blocks in a Stronghold, or the ones that the Ender Dragon drops, they will be irreplaceable. This is not a problem in multiplayer because of the /give command.

[A!] Pressure plates function on top of fences. They should revert to the way they were in 1.8 where they didn't work on top of fences, so pressure plate tables (including the ones in villages) aren't so noisy and annoying. While I understand that the fact that they work allows for some neat redstone inventions, it could be made so that pressure plates still work on top of nether brick fences even though they wouldn't work on wooden fences.

[!] Several sound instances do not play:

  • Buttons make the 'on' noise, but not the 'off' noise. --Rifflesby
  • Mob/Other Player stepping sounds.
  • Other Player mining sounds (the sounds playing before the mining is finished - see Obsidian or Bedrock for examples).
  • Fishing rod sounds (reeling should not make a sound).
  • Cave sounds (or at least, they are not synchronized between players).
  • Slime and Magma Cube sounds.
  • Hoe breaking sounds.
  • Armor breaking sounds.

[!] A few graphical elements are missing:

[!] Mining takes longer in multiplayer than in singleplayer. This is caused by a click-mining 'fix' that was added in Beta 1.3 and is not needed.

How is it not needed? Unless you provide proof this is a side effect of preventing a bug and not a bug itself. --Moxxy 22:36, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

[!] Slimes and Magma Cubes randomly warp up and down when they have a ceiling above them.

[!] Knockback and damage screen calculation is often wrong in multiplayer, actually dealing knockback when it shouldn't (like drowning or being on fire).

[X] Arrows "warp up" when shot on walls. They also disappear and become impossible to collect when shot on ceilings.

[X] The anti-spam does not really prevent spam.

  • I can type 4-5 messages a second as non-op and I do not get kicked. Calinou - talk × contribs » 23:43, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

[X] Arrow shooting is buggy and sometimes "resets" the charging progress.

[X] Not able to breed chickens and only able to breed some cows and sheep.

[X] Having trouble making dogs change from sitting position.

[A] Instead of saying "Outdated Server!" when going on a 1.1 server, it says:" Internal Exception: java.net.SocketException:Connection reset"

[A] When connecting to an outdated server/client, protocol version/game version should be shown.

[U] When the "/" key is designated as the Chat key, it will automatically insert a "/" into the chat window. Should not do this if the Chat key is designated as such.

  • Unable to reproduce this. Can you give us a screenshot of your Controls option screen and edit this bug to report what OS you're running please? --EvilSeph 09:50, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

[A] When changing the size of the window, anything entered into the direct connect box disappears. nuker2

[!] macOS CMD-V does not work when typing things into the world name, seed, direct connect, and edit server info textboxes. CTRL-V works, but it is not good on the muscle memory of a Mac user.

[A] [Cr] End Portals are not in Item Selection.

  • Downgraded to Annoyance.

[A] [Cr] Dragon Egg is not in Item Selection. (Even though it doesn't do anything it's still a good decorative block, and a load of fun to play around with.)

[A!] [Cr] Potions are not in Item Selection.

[X] In the original en_US.lang, the "s" in "Add server" is not capitalized, while "Join Server" is.

[X] Many languages using common characters that are found in the default font still use Unicode fonts, such as french.

  • Maybe a "force unicode font" button should be added if you want to use english and unicode font. Calinou - talk × contribs » 09:54, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
