Minecraft Wiki Admin noticeboard
Shortcuts

The admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

  • This page is for reporting wiki issues. Please post any discussions on the community portal talk page.
  • Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
  • Do not post deletion requests here; instead, the page should be tagged for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
  • For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.
  • For issues with filters preventing edits from being saved: filters are not able to be disabled for specific people. However, an admin may be able to perform the edit themselves for you. "New user" filters expire after you log in and make some edits around the wiki.

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for speedy deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.

If a user must be reported here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{vandal|Example user}} Your concise reason (e.g. vandalised past 4th warning). ~~~~ in the Block requests section.

If a protection or unprotection request must be requested here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{la|Example page}} '''duration (temporary or indefinite) and protection level''': Your concise reason (e.g. constant spam and vandalism). <nowiki>~~~~ in the Protection requests section.

Please post new topics at the bottom of the page by clicking the "add topic" button above.

I recently created a 17th archive for the noticeboard, can someone update the header template to support the new archive? Thanks! 1234567890Number (talk) 11:59, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Spam filter blacklist

Both me and Bb 20 have been unable to link to Fraps.com on hardware performance because it is triggering the spam filter. Would someone be able to fix this? Thanks! -- t numbermaniac c 01:19, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Adjusted the blacklist, see if it behaves itself now. -- Orthotopetalk 09:08, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
It works! Thanks! -- t numbermaniac c 12:03, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

0x10c wiki redirect (moved out of archive because its sill a problem)

When the 0x10c was shutdown it for some reason started redirecting to 0x10c Wiki.--007a83 Talk | Contribs 06:23, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

More accurately, 0x10c.gamepedia.com is being forwarded to minecraft.gamepedia.com, which definitely shouldn't be happening. Nothing we can do here, Curse will have to sort it out next week. -- Orthotopetalk 06:43, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
I will get this resolved on Monday. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 07:07, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

Used files marked as unused

When multiple files are linked through semicolons (for example in grids), only the first file is displayed as used.

Example: File:White_Wool.png and File:Orange_Wool.png are both used in Template:Block in the article Wool, but only the White Wool is displayed as used. (White Wool links/Orange Wool links)

Is there a way to fix that? --eagle3000 (D ~ B) 16:49, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

It will be fixed when we have lua. MattTalk

Could u explain that to me a bit more? ETA for that? (because we're trying to delete all unused files in the german wiki, which we can't do in this situation) --eagle3000 (D ~ B) 21:10, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
The animation images are added and shown with JavaScript, so the images aren't "used" according to the wiki. When Curse updates to MediaWiki 1.21 (probably in a few months), we'll have lua and a lua version of the grid template which will create all the images, and JavaScript will just show them, so everything will work normally. Administrator rights

Can I be an administrator in this wiki? 1234567890Number (talk) 18:32, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

What will becoming an administrator allow you to do that isn't being done now? -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 19:13, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
Whatever. Just forget this request.1234567890Number (talk) 22:48, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Juggernaut1900 (talkcontribslogsblock log)

Made this account for my little cousin. I caught him trying to vandalize Iron Golem. I pressed the cancel button just then and the page was safe. Put him away from the computers for a few hours was what I did, so in the time I have I am typing this message. Please block just the account, not the ip address. Thanks! 1234567890Number (talk) 01:52, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

He also unsuccessfully tried twice to vandalize Wither, but the filters caught it. He hasn't done any more than other random hit-and-run vandals so he doesn't deserve a block, yet. Kanegasi C 03:18, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
Caught him again this morning doing bad edits on Block of Gold. I was too late though, since he manged to press the Save Page botton. I'm going to undo it now, and please block this time! 1234567890Number (talk) 13:25, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
Just a tip, Alt+F4 closes the current window on Windows. (Command+Q on Mac.) If he just pressed save page, closing the window quick enough might not save the edit. -- t numbermaniac c 23:15, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
I recall a very similar incident just two weeks ago. You may want to think more carefully about who you create accounts for. -- Orthotopetalk 07:47, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
I remember that too, it was with VandalMan and my little brother. I WON'T create any more accounts unless I can trust that person with it. 1234567890Number (talk) 20:53, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Filters

I feel I have been wrongfully blocked from speaking on the Talk page of Redstone. It says a unwanted word was found in my edit, but I don't cuss. I am a new user, Could that play a part?--DJDoseMinecraft (talk) 20:27, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

The filter blocks a variety of unwanted text, not just obscenities. In particular, it's used to prevent Herobrine-related spam on pages unrelated to the Herobrine article. -- Orthotopetalk 07:47, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Still having left-sidebar stuff encroaching on page.

Even with the social-disease buttons disabled, now the Gamepedia givaway and Infinite Crisis notices are doing the same thing. What's more, so is the "Minecraft Wiki" logo at the top, and that usually covers half the first button on the top. On consideration, "well, you changed your text size" is not really an answer -- dealing with that is part of webpage design, and the Wiki should be able to handle folks who don't want tiny print. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 13:05, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

I have set the sidebar to be 160px wide rather than the default 10em. Please let me know if you still have an issue. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 20:37, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
Now most of the page content (all but header and the left sidebar itself) is getting forced below the offending buttons, making a huge gap. This is actually worse -- at first I thought the Wiki was broken, until I thought to scroll down.

--MentalMouse42 (talk) 21:35, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
Your personal text settings are doing this. this is not a problem with the wiki.--007a83 Talk | Contribs 14:34, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
Excuse me, but exactly how is that supposed to work? My common.css has all code commented out, and changing the text size would not (and never previously has) cause a major change in page layout like that. I am using a standard browser, namely Firefox, updated to the Ubuntu standard. And I am having no such problems with any other page I visit. At this point I've got scripts completely enabled and AdBlock disabled (not that either of them has caused problems on that level before). So, exactly what in "my text settings" is causing all text content to be forced below the left sidebar? And just to make my previous statement more explicit, if a web page's formatting breaks whenever a viewer changes their text size, then that page's design is broken. The buttons and logo overlapping contents were "a little broken", though worse for actually blocking links. This new problem trades some of that minor breakage (the logo still covers some pages' corner links) for a serious presentation failure. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 20:57, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
MentalMouse, you are the ONLY one that sees the mainpage this way. No one on our wiki team, or our dev team have been able to replicate the issue, I don't see anyone else on the wiki saying they are having this issue. The images used for the contests are 140px wide, the logo is 160px wide. FOR EVERYONE. We aren't somehow singling you out for special treatment. Looking at your screenshot I can see that for whatever reason, your content area is moved over (your links all go underneath it, while the images go above it). Since you have nothing in your personal css that is causing this, and there is nothing in the global css that is causing this (since absolutely no one else sees it) the ONLY conclusion I can draw is that you have made some change in your browser, or your display settings to change this on your machine only. You know how MediaWiki handles images, you know how it handles text. We don't have the luxury to make this do whatever we want like a standard website, we have to work within MediaWiki parameters. We also don't have the luxury of enough dev time to figure out exactly where you are breaking. Until this "problem" affects more than just you, I have to call it tabled. (I removed the hard coded width from the panel, so you should be back to the overlapping problem.) -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 00:07, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
I cannot replicate this at all. I've tried changing DPI settings, overriding the font size and using zoom and none of them cause this to happen. In all cases there are no overlaps (overriding the font size doesn't scale up the images though, so they look too small, but that's the complete opposite of what you're seeing), so this is definitely some browser addon/setting or OS setting you've got that is causing this. I suspect you've got something that scales up images independently of the font size. Try setting firefox to safe mode and see if this still happens. MattTalk

I am indeed back to the overlapping without the pushdown, and thanks for trying Wynthyst. If nobody else is seeing this, I don't know what to think, but I'll look around my browser options. I am not doing anything odd with plugins (at least not odder than NoScript, which has been apparently exonerated by experiments). I'm using 10 point fonts, 12 for monospace, with a minimum of 9 and default fonts of Century Schoolbook L, DejaVu Sans, and "monospace" (which I believe are all Firefox defaults). Shifting to various zoom levels doesn't affect it either. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 02:41, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Sound clips claimed to be not supported

On the Villager page, each of the sound clips in the infobox gives the following message:

Sorry, your browser either has JavaScript disabled or does not have any supported player.
You can download the clip or download a player to play the clip in your browser.

This message remains even if I tell NoScript to enable all the (many) domains wanting to serve scripts here. (As an aside, when I enabled googleadservices, the first thing I saw was a beer ad. Not child-friendly, at leastt by US standards.) Clicking through gets to a page which says I need OGG support, which is built into Firefox -- which I'm using. And I've certainly played OGG files on other sites, nor have I seen that message here before. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 00:02, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

There's an issue with the extension now being used for ogg files; Curse is aware of this, and it's on their list of things to fix. See Minecraft Wiki:Gamepedia migration issues#Soundbuttons. -- Orthotopetalk 01:44, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
Sounds like they're on the case, thanks. --MentalMouse42 (talk) 11:22, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

unnecessary panel divider + header

In the german wiki there is a panel divider and the header "Navigation" in the sidebar at the top (above "Hauptseite") which immediatly disappears when you have scripts enabled. If you disable scripts (for example with ScriptSafe in Chrome) this two things stay. I figured out that this doesn't happen in the english wiki. Any solution? --eagle3000 (D ~ B) 19:51, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the fix. --eagle3000 (D ~ B) 00:27, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

I would like to reference a web-based tool in the Stronghold page

I was trying to add this bit to the Stronghold page:

  • http: //www.purplefrog.com/~thoth/MinecraftStronghold/stronghold.html Eye of Ender throw plotting tool]

but since it's an external link and all my previous contributions have been to non-minecraft Curse wikis, this one considers me too much of a noob to let me add it. I know how the WoWpedia does external links, but could someone familiar with minecraft's style guide put this in a proper place on the Stronghold page? MutantBob (talk) 16:00, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Because it confused one person already: I know how to put a square bracket on the beginning to make it an external hyperlink. The wiki just rejects my edit when I try to save text that includes an external hyperlink (even if the text originally had that hyperlink). "An automated filter has detected external links in your edit. As a new user, your action has been disallowed." MutantBob (talk) 23:07, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
I added the link under External Links. Once you have made the required number of edits successfully without adding any external links, that filter will stop blocking your edits. It's a safeguard we have in place to stop vandals from spamming inappropriate external links on the wiki. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 23:13, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Ad redirecting me

I don't know what it is, but 3 times in the last 10 minutes I have been randomly redirected to mysearch-engine.com without being asked and without me clicking on anything. Looks like a bad ad to me. -- t numbermaniac c 08:00, 5 October 2013 (UTC)

I have the same problem with one of my computers. Weird, isn't it? Try checking your spam or pop-up filter or run a computer scan, Numbermaniac. 1234567890Number (talk) 22:39, 6 October 2013 (UTC)
Not sure how to do that on an iPad, but at least I know it's not just me. -- t numbermaniac c 21:04, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Please update {{Version}} for TU13

Could an admin or 'crat please update the {{Version}} template to reflect the latest change to the Xbox 360 Edition, which is now using TU13. This currently incorrectly displays TU12 as being the latest version, on the Main Page of the wiki. Thanks. Augur 19:54, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
