Minecraft Wiki Admin noticeboard
Shortcuts

The admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

  • This page is for reporting wiki issues. Please post any discussions on the community portal talk page.
  • Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
  • Do not post deletion requests here; instead, the page should be tagged for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
  • For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.
  • For issues with filters preventing edits from being saved: filters are not able to be disabled for specific people. However, an admin may be able to perform the edit themselves for you. "New user" filters expire after you log in and make some edits around the wiki.

Table of slscool

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for speedy deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.

If a user must be reported here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{vandal|Example user}} Your concise reason (e.g. vandalised past 4th warning). ~~~~ in the Block requests section.

If a protection or unprotection request must be requested here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{la|Example page}} '''duration (temporary or indefinite) and protection level''': Your concise reason (e.g. constant spam and vandalism). <nowiki>~~~~ in the Protection requests section.

Please post new topics at the bottom of the page by clicking the "add topic" button above.

Why is editing through tor blocked?

Am i wrong for using tor? Do you trash our internet privacy? If you want to prevent abuse, then why isn't vpn blocked but tor? Do you think there are more people using tor than vpn? Just why? Why do you block tor users from editing? -- 196.245.151.215 08:04, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

Editing through Tor is blocked due to extensive abuse by bad-faith users. I can ask around and see if people think the block should be lifted, but I don't think they'll agree. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 11:32, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
Then why isn't vpn blocked as well like wikipedia? I believe the amount of abusers will decrease even more if you do so. -- 209.58.163.233 15:05, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
The problem with tor is that we cannot identify the editor, since the IP address would be different each time. If you really want to edit through tor, you can create an account. The BlobsPaper 16:43, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

VPNs are blocked on Wikipedia due to them using open proxies. VPNs that use closed proxies are able to edit Wikipedia. 173.0.77.8 13:22, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
In addition to being able to circumvent blocks, another major problem with VPNs: even if a user is constructive, it's really difficult to notify them about something if they keep switching their IP. I don't know much about IPs and VPNs, but how would we be able to know for a fact that a certain user is in fact using a VPN?--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 16:55, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Coral Fans redlink

Please fix the redlink by recreating the redirect Coral Fans to Coral fans. 49.228.176.243 09:55, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

There is no reason for such a redirect to exist, since the Coral Fan page will just appear as you start typing Coral Fans. Honestly, I am not sure why we have the Coral fans redirect. The BlobsPaper 15:51, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
Well, the search suggestions take a minute to show up, so it's not true that they will appear immediately when you start typing Coral Fans. The redirect also useful for linking; it's impractical to go through every single edit made by anyone to make sure they use the format [[Coral fan]]s instead of [[Coral fans]] (and for all other items with potential plural forms). Furthermore, redirects are absolutely harmless; they take up barely any space and they don't clutter the search bar because the "actual main page" takes priority when searching, making any redirects to that page that are in a similar format not show up at all. In addition, the current style guide allows any alternate capitalization or form, meaning that both Coral Fans and Coral fans would be valid redirects. Citing existing rules/guidelines as I did isn't a reason for supporting/opposing a proposal, but that's not the purpose of this particular discussion.
The redirect was actually created as Coral Fans initially, but moved to Coral fans (which is not an appropriate way of deleting or creating redirects, as it makes the edit histories confusing).--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 16:26, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

Sprites

How do you add a sprite? Minecraftexpert123 (talk) 14:44, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Go to the sprite template in question (such as Template:InvSprite) and click "Edit sprite", right next to the normal edit button. All the sprites are organized into categories below; you can add one by clicking "New image" in the sprite-editing toolbar. When you're done, click save. It's a pretty simple and user-friendly way to update both the image and the module as needed at the same time.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 14:47, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

No i mean how do you create a new sprite image? Minecraftexpert123 (talk) 16:54, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
Do you mean add an icon for a specific sprite? If so, we've already answered that; just edit the sprite and click "New image" and Blobs explained how you create the image itself to begin with. If you're talking about a whole new sprite sheet, I'm not sure exactly why we'd need one. Please elaborate on what you mean by "new sprite image", as what I thought you meant by that doesn't seem to be what you're referring to.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 16:59, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
I mean create a new sprite (one that doesnt exist, like the sprite for non-renewable resources in enviroment.)Minecraftexpert123 (talk) 17:11, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Go to the sprite sheet you want to edit, for example {{BlockSprite}}. Click "Edit Sprite". Click "New Image". Upload a 16x16 image. I do not know what else to say, it really is that simple. KnightMiner · (t) 21:35, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Why can't I edit the talk page of the main page? 111.88.15.200 10:40, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

The talk page was semi-protected in 2013 because it is "99% junk". However, there has been a more recent movement to avoid indefinite protections.
If there is a good reason to keep the talk page protected, you can still propose changes here, or at Talk:Minecraft Wiki/editcopy. The BlobsPaper 15:19, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

Looks like they've stopped, but if it happens again warn them on their talk page. IPs don't get a notification if their edit is reverted AFAIK, and they may not know the History tab exists. Also, one IP disruptively editing usually isn't a reason to protect a page; warn them, try to get them to discuss, and if they refuse then contact an admin to block them.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 15:48, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

A tutorial for creating an infinite water source in only one block of water

We need more Tutorials for this Wiki, but it is vanilla. I found two ways to create an infinite water source in only one block. It is also possible on survival. Can we do it? Minelogic (talk) 05:19, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

If that's really the case, could you take some screenshots demonstrating this so we can figure out where to add it? You can upload images at Special:Upload and then add the image here using the syntax [[File:FILENAMEWITHEXTENSIONHERE|200px|thumb]]. Unless it's something very intricate and detailed I doubt we'd need a whole tutorial on it, but it's certainly something should be added to this.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 15:40, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Remove the word filter for "S*xy!"

The splash "S*xy!" was changed to "Moderately attractive!" in 1.16 pre-3. However, the Wiki currently states that it used to be "Shrek see!", because the word it used to be is blocked; S-e-x-y-!.–Preceding unsigned comment was added by User-100192636 (talkcontribs) at 19 June 2020 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Unfortunately, we can't disable filters for certain people; and since this is one of only a few cases where such a word could be used constructively, it doesn't make sense to remove the filter completely. However, if you run into a problem like this again, do let us know here, and we can certainly perform the edit for you. Additionally, once you have made at least 5 or so edits while logged in you will be exempt from most abuse filters. In this case, another user has already fixed the issue.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 18:20, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

Someone removed the old .json code in a tutorial

I was browsing about behaviour packs and a way to make one, then I found that the manifest.json example in https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Creating_behavior_packs was very different from the one in resource packs tutorial.

Can you rollback the changes? Btw I already found the right files in Mojang's Vanilla Behaviour Pack example, so I can still progress through the tutorial.

Editing Talk:Minecraft Wiki (section)

I can't edit in the Talk section of a page. I sincerely don't appreciate it. I'm not using a VPN, nor a proxy. I'm getting this error:

Error: Your action has been disallowed by an automated edit filter. A brief description of the matched rule(s) for your action is: Extra protection for frequent spam targets

Thanks for checking. --Jahus (talk) 14:08, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

The filter was implemented because ordinary protection has pretty much just two modes: 1) stop unregistered users only; 2) stop everyone but administrators. The page used to get a lot of edits (and looking at the filter's logs, still gets some every now and then) from new accounts that aren't appropriate for that page. While the talk page is intended solely to discuss the main page itself (which is, admittedly, what you were doing), people use it as a help desk, suggestions platform for Mojang, or a place to post of promotional material, gibberish, or non-English text.
Your edit causing a false positive activation of the edit filter is unfortunate (especially for someone's first experience). I implemented a warning notice specifically for that page, but I'm not certain all editors will see it.
As for your comment itself, I'm not sure the RTX beta from Xbox Insider would be a good fit for the main page given it's not even a "mainstream" development version. The combat test snapshots aren't there either, so I guess a discussion could be started for whether to include them. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 14:53, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for letting us know; for now I've created strider jockey as a redirect to the Strider page, so anyone searching for the former will automatically be taken to the latter. I don't think there's enough information about the strider jockey in particular that can't be said on the Strider page to warrant a separate article, but then again looking at other pages like Spider jockey this does seem to be done for other rideable mobs. As of now, semi-protection only prevents IP users from editing, and since it is so easy to create an account, semi-protection wouldn't be that helpful if all the recent IP users created accounts. --Fadyblok240 (talk) 01:14, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Support All you need is an email, username, and password. By requiring a bit of experience, it would be possible to catch vandals before they edit semi-protected pages. The BlobsPaper 04:17, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
There are technical reasons behind semi-protection preventing only IP edits (something to do with the auth system), and local admins can neither do it themselves, nor, apparently, is such a change possible on Gamepedia at all. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 06:53, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
Support I will support this change because some user are being vandalizing and an few long-term abuse accounts, also what to being no needed twitch login. Nashdelacruz25 (talk) 00:18, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

also, can you block the https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/UserProfile:ThePrinceOfAllSayinsIsBack? They are a sockpuppet of Prince_vegeta356. The link below says why. Also, look at the controbutions of both, the exact same.Humiebee talk contributions 23:46, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

I and others have blocked all their accounts and I've also protected the Human page for a few days as well as rev deleted some of the more extreme personal attacks. Let us know if they come back.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 02:49, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

They seem to have stopped for now, will block if they continue.  Nixinova T  C   08:28, 2 August 2020 (UTC)
They continue to vandalize the page. 49.146.42.113 01:23, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
They haven't vandalized in several hours, but since they did 2 days in a row I've gone ahead and blocked them for a few days. Thanks.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 01:26, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

About Bedrock 1.16.20

if Bedrock 1.16.2 dont get released please make it a redirect page like Bedrock 1.16 redirects to Bedrock 1.16.0. 77.241.128.250 20:14, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

1.16.20 will get released eventually, not sure why you think it won't. Also, this page is generally for issues that require the help of an admin. General discussion belong in the community portal. The BlobsPaper 01:22, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

can you please reopen my bug

my bug https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-196972 is not fixed can you please fix this. 49.146.42.113 09:14, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

The Minecraft Wiki is not affiliated with the Mojira bugtracker. Plus, even the Mojira moderators can't fix the bug and Mojang themselves decide when to fix a bug. ---- Elite hog (talk) 09:20, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
The bug report was resolved not because it was fixed, but because it is a duplicate. The bug that it duplicates is still open, so nothing needs to be reopened. The BlobsPaper 18:52, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
For future reference, requests for the bugtracker should be made on its subreddit or Discord server. As Blobs mentioned, your report was resolved as a duplicate of a still open issue, so nothing needs to be done. –Sonicwave talk 19:08, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
But this is not a duplicate. 49.146.42.113 00:21, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
It's clearly a duplicate. And also works as intented like why are you asking this, stop✋. Humiebee talk contributions 00:25, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
The screenshot at least shows the same issue as the report it's marked as a duplicate of. The wiki (especially this page in particular) is not the right place to discuss bugtracker issues; please move further discussion to the Mojira subreddit or discord linked above. –Sonicwave talk 00:57, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Finally back / RE Herobrine's page

Hello current Minecraft Wiki admins. I am Kizzycocoa, a former admin for a period of 8 years, if I recall correctly. I've finally regained control of my account following several years of waiting and back-and-forth with the staff. Apologies for the stray comment on the talk page - I am not permitted to remove it it seems. It has been a fair while.

Sadly, the way it has worked out, they've essentially had to fully reset my account. I'm about to go on a soul-search to reacquire old pages from the source code. It is going to take some time I fear, to convert the old HTML to wiki markup.

I had an agreement when I left the wiki team. I would be permitted to make edits to the Herobrine page. I had quite the extensive history there. Now that I have finally regained control, can I have that privilege reaffirmed?

Thanks in advance for your reply,

--Kizzycocoa (talk) 23:52, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
