The Admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, consider the following:

  • As this is a noticeboard and not a talk page, please refrain from discussing.
  • Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
  • Do not post deletion requests here. Deletion requests should be made by adding {{delete}} to the top of the target page, which will then automatically mark the page as a candidate for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comments instead.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made if a resolution could not be reached between users.

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.

Spammer

--User:Kremlin Changed the version history page (and possibly others) to just a link to a different site. CMaster 18:49, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

This guy is on a rampage - constantly replacing Tutorials and Version History. Really, really annoying. --Warlock 19:11, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
I'm busy reverting, but could someone pleae just block the spammer? -Aurelius 19:14, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Version on Main page

Hey everyone,

Minecraft 1.6.5 has been released, so it would be cool of you update the mainpage to show the right version :-)

Template

Hello everyone, I signed up to translate pages from English to Italian. I have already translated 4 pages and many other proper. I would ask permission to create the page,Template: Blocks/it for navigate between pages already translated (if possible) --RB69q - 07:05, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

The templates are generally added once you get your subdomain. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 17:20, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Oh, I saw what you said in the French translation. How can I get the Italian subdomain? --RB69q - 19:14, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Once you have fully translated the main page and resolved (translated) all pages that link to it, as well as a substansial number of other pages, we will set up a subdomain. The Italian community has to show a solid commitment to completing the translation, as well as ongoing maintenance of the Italian wiki. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 19:36, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your answer :) - 21:01, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Edit: Just one more thing: the main page will be Minecraft_Wiki/it, right? -- RB69q -11:11, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Problem with translating

Hi, admin team.

I'm a minecraft player from hungary, and I would like to take part in the hungarian translation project. Only problem, that it's not possible because the website software says that I don't have the right to create new pages. Is there a possible solution by any chance? I would like to create Items/hu and pages like that, not whole new wiki pages.

Thanks,

Kenkesey8

Imo, protect so that only auto-confirmed users can edit it, at least for a bit. --JonTheMon 23:40, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
Semiprotection would help in the short-term, but what's really needed here is a checkuser and some IP blocks. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:42, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
It looks like we're under attack by a spammer, these accounts are all sockpuppets and belong to the same person. However, their IP's are all completely different so I think they're behind proxies. We'll continue blocking these accounts for now.--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 09:04, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Hows about we just add the site to the blacklist? Even completely block of blogspot if you think it's necessary. I would, but I really have no idea how regex works. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 09:38, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Ah yeah, didn't we have a filter installed? We should look into that. (I have no idea how regex works either)--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 09:47, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
You can add an abuse filter, the rule could be :
!("Autoconfirmed users" in user_groups) & (article_namespace == 0) & contains_any(lcase(added_lines),"minecraft-guides-tutorials.blogspot.com")
With the option "Prevent the user to perform the action" (or something like that). It will prevent peoples which are not in the "Autoconfirmed users" group to add the link "minecraft-guides-tutorials.blogspot.com" to any page of the mainspace. – Scaler (t) 10:26, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
Or a filter in the spam-blacklist :
# URLs
[a-z]*\.co\.cc
minecraft-guides-tutorials\.blogspot\.com
I don't know which is the most effective. – Scaler (t) 10:37, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
I added the abuse filter, we'll see if its effective enough.--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 13:26, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
It seems to be working, he's now blanking the pages : CMIYC91349 (talkcontribslogsblock log)
Threw in a filter against that, too. Seems to be working great.--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 07:34, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Yoshi (talkcontribslogsblock log)

He has only 2 wiki edits, in which he just reverted his own edit and all the rest are in his userspace. He also kept reverting animal pictures to poor quality versions (which were fixed). I have warned him and told him to start editing properly, but he just continued editing his page. He's been blocked before by Wynthyst for a week. I suggest an indefinite ban if he continues. --Rocĸetor talk 07:35, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Template useless due to restrictions

Hi, i created a cool (imo) template, namely Template:BlockGrid, but it is currently unusable, since the loop limit (see below) is set to 100.

Many proper diagrams use more than 100 tiles, since images are two-dimensional (10×10 is not a very big area), and the limit is per page, so we would need several times the amount necessary for a single image.

An admin can configure the necessary parameter to allow as much looping as the software manages (which is far more than is needed for a single diagram) or a fixed value.

I would recommend setting the parameter to -1 (as mentioned here). I’m sure normal uses via the template wouldn’t stress the server too much (I would know, I’m a programmer). If somebody abuses it (by creating useless giant loops), he can be banned, but it would be very nice to be able to use my template more than ½ time ;)

To ease the decision: i could alter the template to circumvent this, since template argument loops are not affected by this, but that would involve a “|” after EVERY tile (as opposed to “after every row”) and use equal or more performance.

Flying sheep 11:43, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Looks useless. Just use a table and the already existing template. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 12:35, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Upcoming features (orphan) page

Would someone take a look at this and determine if it should be either: a) tossed onto the main page under the Updates, News and Events section, b) tossed under some other related section, c) fed to squirrels and deleted, or d) ignored and left on the orphans page. -Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 11:09, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Why don't you provide an actual link that we can follow? duh! –The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wynthyst (Talk|Contribs) . Please sign your posts with ~~~~!
Because it was an orphaned page, and by linking it, takes it off the page without anyone potentially dealing with it. This would defeat the purpose of me reporting it, ne? Wynthyst, your wiki-fu disappoints me. :D -Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 11:31, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Who cares -.- it's more important that it gets noticed than having it stay on the specialpage.  ANNOYING  22:39, 11 March 2011 (UTC)
Hence my original request? Not giving a link did have a purpose, that's all I'm saying. ^.^ -Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 00:40, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
Moving to solved as this page is linked on version history and the main page, and it much more popular and looked after. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 08:55, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Edit war at Mobs and Template:Mobs

I think that at the very least there needs to be some page protections or check-user runs. --JonTheMon 19:36, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Mobs has been protected, if it starts up again, the template will get protected too. It'll be un-protected once a solid agreement is come to on the talk pages. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 08:55, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Images in other languages

I uploaded a version of this image http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/File:PercentOfOreByHeight.png in english. Then someone translated it to german on http://de.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Datei:PercentOfOreByHeight.png, which replaced my original version. Then someone translated it back on the english version, replacing the original german one on the german site. Seems like the file is shared between the two sites, but the history is unique.
