Minecraft Wiki Admin noticeboard

The admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

• This page is for reporting wiki issues. Please post any discussions on the community portal talk page.
• Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
• Do not post deletion requests here; instead, the page should be tagged for deletion.
• Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
• Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
• For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.
• For issues with filters preventing edits from being saved: filters are not able to be disabled for specific people. However, an admin may be able to perform the edit themselves for you. "New user" filters expire after you log in and make some edits around the wiki.

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for speedy deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.

Current issues

Global AF caught my constructive edit

I tried to edit Tutorials/Update_Java to reflect the current status of Oracle's Java versions. I got an error message telling me to post here:

Yep, that's the abuse filter. Can you tell us what edit you were trying to make? If you can, then we may be able to do it for you. This specific filter likely blocks all unregistered users as well as registered users who have not made 3 edits yet.-- Madminecrafter12^{Talk to me} 12:18, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

Three things, mainly:

• I changed the terminology so that "development versions" (they're not really development vesions) are now referred to as "short-term support versions", same for "stable" and "long-term support versions".
• The Java 9 download link is now broken because Oracle removed it from their downloads, so I removed that and added a Note with a link to the Java Archive, also saying that Java 9 is no longer supported, will no longer receive security updates and that Oracle recommends you don't use Java 9.
• I cited the Java Archive page and the the page where Oracle lays out the End-Of-Life dates of Java releases.
• Updated the latest versions to 1.8.0_172 and 10.0.1

Template:Delete

Hi! I need to upload an image and add it to the template:Delete page, but the page is protected, I cannot make it, and an admin needs to do it for me, and I need also make some larger changes to the template, please can the protection level be lowered from "sysop" to "autoconfirmed" so I can upload a trash bin image from Wiki Pedia and use it on the delete template and make some layout changes to the template?  Oppose. There are still unresolved discussions about those templates going on, which need concensus before the templates should be modified. Please refer to for instance, this discussion about deleting redirects and its main WIP project here. Instead of lowering the protection so you can edit it, normally what is done is the changes are proposed on a talk page and an admin will add them once approved. So start a conversation there about what layout changes you wish to make, preferably by adding a mockup, and if there is a concensus someone will update it. –KnightMiner · (t) 19:27, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, although we wouldn't usually temporarily lower the protection of a page just so that one person can edit it, we may should consider lowering the edit protection of {{delete}} to autoconfirmed. Years ago, a ton of registered users vandalized the template - but I highly doubt it would still happen now.-- Madminecrafter12^{Talk to me} 14:00, 28 July 2018 (UTC)

If it's lowered, editors other than Psl85 will easily be able to improve the template as they see fit in the future without having to seek administrative attention. Cannot link mi gamepedia account to my email

Last night I created my Gamepedia account. Now I was trying to change my preferences, but I cannot, supposedly because I haven't confirmed an e-mail. All notices and help pages I have been linked say that e-mail settings are in the user preferences page, however this isn't true for me. Is this an error or am I dumb? Special:WikiPoints page is broken

Each leaderboard page -except the first- is cut at the end. Yesterday night I was in a position number that had a 9 in the second-to-last digit, so I couldn't see myself because tables are cut at the end. Could I suggest this again?  I know [[User:Auldrick|]] said no, but I have an alternative to a GIF: the way the image cycling works on entity pages and such (like [[Villager]]).  Could something be rigged up where (for Auldrick's case) there's one cycling icon for the seven besides Android, iOS, and Apple TV; another icon for the first two of those; and a final icon for Apple TV?  Then, once all versions are equal, there's one icon for everything except Apple TV?  I can experiment if my help's needed. ~~~~

Hi Scientific Guy - thanks for reporting! As for the first filter that your edit got caught in, "Extra protection for frequent spam targets," I personally think that should probably be disabled altogether (see below). What it does is makes it so that users can't edit the main page unless they're logged in and have made 5 edits. However, the first part (logged in) is redundant, as the page is already semi-protected, so that only registered users can edit it. Also, the abuse filter seems to hit many false positives and most of the accurate catches are not any kind of extreme spam/vandalism - usually just a post that was made where it doesn't belong, but that could easily be reverted, and it doesn't seem to occur that often. For the second filter that your edit got caught in, that was a false positive. Normal admins can't edit the filter, as it's global, but I've notified Gamepedia Staff and are figuring out a solution right now.

As for actually making the edit, the best thing I can think of is for me to do it for you. However, that would technically be forging your signature. Do note that once you've made 5 edits, you should be able to bypass both filters just fine, so if you even just want to edit your sandbox twice, that would be an easy way to do the trick. ;)-- Madminecrafter12^{Talk to me} 03:35, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Well, after looking at more of the filter hits, I was wrong about the first part of my post. The filter is quite effective actually, and I don't think the filter should be disabled altogether. However, I do think the required edit count should be lowered to 2 (or even maybe 1), rather than 5 - as almost all of the accurate catches are by users who haven't made any previous edits.-- Madminecrafter12^{Talk to me} 03:38, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Anyways, for the future, I've changed the abuse filter so that any registered user who has made at least 2 edits can now edit the Minecraft Wiki talk page. Tutorials/Command block: Revision deletion request

This diff on Tutorials/Command block: The edit has a offensive edit summary, which might be deleted, and has some offensive language, and i would this summary be deleted and has some swearing and bad things, and please can this be deleted so other users visiting the recent changes page, history on the page, or the ip's contributions would not see it, please? psl85 (talk • contribs) 16:42, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

(edit conflict) Normal swearing or offensive language wouldn't warrant revision deletion. However, "Grossly insulting or degrading material" would warrant revision deletion. This might fall under that category, but I'm not really too sure. I think I'll leave this to another admin to see their opinion. I don't see why you would need that. There has been literally no incident whatsoever of this yet on your page. Usually pages are only protected if it is an active target of multiple vandalizers, or if it is a high traffic page and vandalism is to be expected. IPs can't edit user pages, there is a global abuse filter "New User Editing Another's Userpage" which prevents anyone with less then ~5(?) edits from editing the page. A semi-protection would be useless.   MarkusRost (talk) 10:42, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

Your computer or browser might be infected with spyware or other malware. Update your anti-virus, run a computer-wide scan and see if turns out with any positives. If not, check if your antivirus can detect spyware besides virusses. I don't think this has anything to do with the page itself, because I don't get any such problem with the page. disruptive editing by Giorgosarv18

The user Giorgosarv18 (talk • contribs • logs • block log) is disruptively editing the crossbow page, repeatedly ignoring and edit warring the redirect page to make it a content page, after having been informed to refer to the style guide. he never gives any reason why he thinks his action should be made, besides believing the page should exist. Crossbows are not in the game yet in any version, and according to the style guide, articles have to exist in some development version before they meet notability. – Jack McKalling [ ] 20:16, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

@Nixinova: That makes sense, and I'm not criticizing the fact that you did that at all. I was just saying that at this point, due to the complexity of this edit war and that it's having to be taken to the admin noticeboard, this change should now be discussed on the talk page, and I pinged you because you were one of the users involved with this. That being said, I encourage you to take it to the talk page of the Crossbow page or the community portal now, if you believe what you did benefited the encylcopedia. The filters appear to be working correctly. As per the style guide, articles must contain a reasonable amount of content, and should not duplicate existing pages (such as this one). -- Orthotope^talk 01:04, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, the filter that "prevents creation of unwanted pages" is quite strict and it makes it extremely difficult for unregistered and new users to actually create a page. I would probably support lowering the strictness of the filter. We can't disable it completely because most of the pages it catches are unconstructive and without the filter the Minecraft Wiki would be overrun with vandalism pages. In you're case, I'm not sure about EE 1.7, as looking at the website it seems like it's actually Education Edition 1.7. If that's the case then we should make it a redirect but again, I'm not really sure enough to do anything. As for TU1, I've now redirected it to the Console Version History page. It's a likely search term and readers, like you, may think that there is no article on it yet if it doesn't redirect. We may should create redirects to the LCE version history page for all versions (e.g. Patch 24, TU63, etc.) for ease when searching. Thanks for letting us know. I've removed the YouTube video, but I'm not sure about removing the whole section completely, as it does contain some info other than the video. Imbedded Twitch link

The Twitch link that is usually at the top of the page disappeared after I reloaded the page. After reloading the page several more times it still didn't come up again and I can't figure out how to get it to appear again.
