Minecraft Wiki Admin noticeboard
Shortcuts

The admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

  • This page is for reporting wiki issues. Please post any discussions on the community portal talk page.
  • Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
  • Do not post deletion requests here; instead, the page should be tagged for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
  • For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.
  • For issues with filters preventing edits from being saved: filters are not able to be disabled for specific people. However, an admin may be able to perform the edit themselves for you. "New user" filters expire after you log in and make some edits around the wiki.

Table of slscool

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for speedy deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.

If a user must be reported here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{vandal|Example user}} Your concise reason (e.g. vandalised past 4th warning). ~~~~ in the Block requests section.

If a protection or unprotection request must be requested here, do not create a new section. Instead, add * {{la|Example page}} '''duration (temporary or indefinite) and protection level''': Your concise reason (e.g. constant spam and vandalism). <nowiki>~~~~ in the Protection requests section.

Why do I get blocked?

Last night I was editing the parity issue list, I was adding some important things, it took me about an hour. When I was done and hit save, it didn't let me. Some network error popped up. Now I tried it again, this time I only edited one single line and hit save, it didn't work again, and I received the following warning:

Your action has been disallowed by an automated edit filter. A brief description of the matched rule(s) for your action is: [SOAP] Spam prevention

I wasn't "spamming", I was just trying to add important things that were missing from that page. I would like to know why this happens and how I can continue editing without getting this warning. Hobbylos1 (talk) 12:13, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

Short answer: you attempted to add a link to the forked wiki, which is against the Forking Policy.
Full answer: I assume "this time I only edited one single line" is referring to the line starting with "Player's hand and held." However, in your attempted edits, you also touched the line three lines down (the one starting with "Players have an animation"). I'm guessing you copied that line, or maybe the entire General or Animations section, and pasted it on this wiki. However, for whatever reason, this changed the link in that line: it replaced the link in the reference tag (the Minecraft Feedback link) with a link to the reference tag (what happens when you click the little [feedback 1] in the article). Those URLs, by default, take the URL of the current article and append "cite_note-x" to it. Since you were copying text from the forked wiki, that URL was a link to the forked wiki. The AbuseFilter does not allow links to the forked wiki. SLScool 00:04, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

My account is lost

Can you please move my original account's (TheGreatSpring) subpages onto my userspace as I can't move pages. Can you please also restore my old user rights? TheGreatFall (talk) 23:31, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

To the admin giving this request attention: Please restore the same user rights to TheGreatFall that TheGreatSpring had. His edits are showing up in lists of unpatrolled edits, and they shouldn't be. Amatulic (talk) 07:25, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
How did you lost your account? 105.186.117.183 10:59, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
Closed my account and accidentally did not reactivated it. TheGreatFall (talk) 11:38, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
Why did you close your account in the first place? If you wanted to have a new username you could have just used the user rename tool. James Haydon (talk) 20:16, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
Seems like they closed it for an April Fools' joke, but they were actually still able to edit during the 30 day grace period and probably did not see the notice when you log in during the grace period (probably some glitch between Fandom and Gamepedia), which is probably why it gone unnoticed until it was permanently closed on May 1st, exactly 30 days later. – Unavailablehoax (talk) 22:04, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
Can’t an admin restore it? VillagerCraftMC (talk | contribs | cheeseburger) /give @a emerald 22:11, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

Why would they do that for April fools though? Pretty risky if you ask me. James Haydon (talk) 22:13, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

You really shouldn't blame them, if you look at their logs and contribs, they were still able to do everything a regular account can during the waiting period. It's probably a bug with UCP that doesn't show the notice on Gamepedia (closing your account is a Fandom feature). – Unavailablehoax (talk) 22:26, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
So there is supposed to be a notice that your account only has 30 days until it's closed? James Haydon (talk) 22:28, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
That is not an April Fool's Joke closing. That is a serious closing. TheGreatFall (talk) 00:09, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
So I guess you didn't really want to use that account anymore. James Haydon (talk) 00:11, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

Oh I meant accidentally. Sorry. TheGreatFall (talk) 00:22, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
Okay so did you have to log back in after you accidentally closed it? Did it give you any instruction on how to un-close it? If you go on the account closing page it says that upon logging back in, it gives you instructions on how to un-close it. James Haydon (talk) 00:25, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

Well that's odd. When I played the file, it played numerous times without any issues. I have Microsoft Edge as my browser, so maybe that has something to do with it. 199.243.89.130 23:10, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
Yes, It's buggy. Why you should help this file right now? 49.228.136.56 10:13, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
Because it's on the enchanter page and having a buggy file isn't that good considering that the sounds sections are usually meant to be played repeatedly. Can't upload over it because it doesn't let you upload the same sound effect over itself, so deletion will be needed.James Haydon (talk) 20:34, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

When i undo the vandalism, why do i get internal error? 105.225.91.157 12:22, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Request for an anti-vandalism edit filter

This might be hard, but if a page starting with "Java Edition" is created, there should automatically be semi-protection for 24 - 48 hours (due to vandalism frequently appearing in new snapshot pages/new version pages) right after it is released/announced (like Java Edition 1.17, Java Edition 1.16.4, and Java Edition 21w15a). Humiebeetalk contribs 22:50, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Creating the filter isn't hard, but auto-protection isn't available as an action. The filter would be something like:
(!user_name in page_recent_contributors) & (page_title irlike ^(Java Edition))
The actions available to a filter are: logging the filter hit, warning the user, throttling the activity that triggered the filter, disallowing the activity, revoking the user from being auto-promoted to various groups, blocking the user, removing the user from privileged groups, range-blocking an IP address range, or tagging the edit. Protecting the article doesn't seem to be available according to https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:AbuseFilter/Actions . I'd say throttling and tagging would be the best options. Initial page creations can be tagged for review and if too many of them occur during a period of time, they are simply disallowed.
I'm not an edit filter manager here on this wiki so I can't tell if a new filter is needed or an existing one needs a modification. Amatulic (talk) 18:53, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Are you referring to edit filters that detect possibly disruptive edits and block them from happening? That is standard on the English Wikipedia but I don't know what is being used here.
I'll also take this opportunity to say that if you're the same person who used to be 105.184.149.12 (talkcontribslogsblock log) (both are from the same South African internet provider), I want to publicly recognize you for the excellent vandal-fighting work you've done here. How did you now about South African? 105.225.210.9 16:17, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
Any IP address can be looked up in a 'whois' service to get information about who owns it. For example, your IP address belongs to Telkom Internet Broadband in Cape Town. I find it odd that the wiki software refers to IP addresses as "anonymous" IP addresses. You're actually more anonymous if you create an account, then you can reveal or withhold any information you want. My user profile says I'm in California, but that's only because I chose to reveal that. Amatulic (talk) 16:33, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

To be clear: I am not a hacker. IP address information is public information, that's all. I brought it up only because I wanted to thank you a few days ago for your anti-vandal efforts, and then I noticed your edits coming from a new IP address.
I encourage you to create an account. You're a good editor here.
Back to the topic: Are you referring to an edit filter? Are your edits being disallowed? I noticed you were able to remove this section (which someone else restored) without any problem. Amatulic (talk) 17:26, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
Yes, software like ipinfo.io can be used for stuff like this. It doesn't require any hackling experience of any sort. James Haydon (talk) 02:10, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

How Do I Make A New Page???

Well, you see I found some hidden stuff in Minecraft, that aren't on this wiki. like blocks and items, and pages for mobs, and since that there's so much stuff in minecraft. I think this wiki needs to grow more! Gr Memer De-Nah (talk) 18:45, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

Your best approach, as a new user, is to draft new articles as sub-pages from your own user page, and then ask someone more experienced to review it.
I am skeptical that you found blocks, items, and mobs that aren't already on this wiki.
What hidden stuff do you want to write about? If it really doesn't already exist on this wiki, I can create pages for you, or direct you to existing articles for improvement. Amatulic (talk) 19:04, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
Well, you might think I'm wrong...
I think we need a page for the new mini boss mob... the warden... Gr Memer De-Nah
There already exists a page for the Warden. It is just a redirect at the moment, but it does have some content. Also there is no mini-boss classification in Minecraft. James Haydon (talk) 16:13, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

IP 105.186.90.113

Do you guys remember this ip? 105.186.185.134 12:39, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Sure, I assume 105.186.90.113 (talkcontribslogsblock log) is you up until 19 September 2020, when your internet service provider issued you a new address, likely because you're on a dynamic IP address range.
It would be nice if you would create an account here. You're a good editor. Then all of your contributions would be credited to your account, instead of being scattered among multiple IP addresses. Amatulic (talk) 19:08, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
But my account might get blocked by admins! 105.186.185.134 07:42, 23 May 2021 (UTC)
IPs can be blocked too, but that only happens when the wiki rules are broken.  Nixinova T  C   08:04, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
But I'm scared to create my new account because my new account night get blocked by admins! 105.186.185.134 14:49, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
Why would it be blocked? You are constructive, a good vandal fighter, and you are not disrupting this wiki.
Besides, an admin can block your IP address too, and even block the entire IP address range of your internet service provider if needed. I'm an admin on another wiki and I've had to do that.
In summary, creating an account doesn't put you in any more danger of being blocked than having only an IP address. And having an account would make it easier to communicate with you because you would then have your own personal talk page. Amatulic (talk) 18:38, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
@Amatulic: I think it's because their two previous accounts, Shagufta Arai (talkcontribslogsblock log) and Venus Minecraft (talkcontribslogsblock log), got indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry. But the person who blocked the was Dhranios, who is now retired from the wiki. So they have nothing to worry about. James Haydon (talk) 01:52, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
@NineTreyBlud: so can i create my new account? 105.186.185.134 07:33, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
I wasn't aware that you already had an account. That complicates things. Creating another might be considered sockpuppetry, and an admin who is not aware of your 'good' history as an IP address may end up blocking it for that reason (for that matter, editing from an IP address would be considered block evasion). Do you understand why your account was blocked? Would you be willing to have it unblocked and continue using it in constructive ways, like you're editing now as an IP address?
To any admin watching: Is there any procedure here for appealing blocks, like on the English Wikipedia? I think Shagufta Arai (talkcontribslogsblock log) can be safely unblocked to resume contributing from that account. Amatulic (talk) 08:04, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

Are you referring to the {{unsigned}} tag? What is wrong with it appearing in archive pages? I see no reason why the tag shouldn't be archived along with an unsigned comment. Amatulic (talk) 00:38, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

List of...

May move to MCT:CP
Currently, there are a lot of these "list" articles. They follow MCW:SG and all of the wiki rules. However, there are several problems with them.

  1. Most of them are orphans with very little links outside of other "List" articles.
  2. For the List of x texture articles, they are simply galleries separated into sections.
  3. They don't feel right in the wiki, similar to Tutorials.

Fixes:

  1. Delete these pages.
  2. Move them into a List: namespace (probably not)
  3. Move them into a User: namespace
  4. Make a separate lists wiki and export all the pages there (probably not)

I really don't think these pages should exist, they are just lists of things. Humiebeetalk contribs 01:28, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

I noticed that many of these list articles are lists of images. These may be converted to categories. For the other lists, perhaps redirecting would be a better option since the history would preserved? What about splitting list sections from articles into their own standalone pages to reduce the loading time of the main article? Fadyblok240 (talk) 01:34, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
Agree with this as the fixes I mentioned seem too stretched or just removing the lists entirely. Also, for List of minerals, List of sediments, and List of foods, they can be moved to Mineral/Minerals, Sediment/Sediments, and Foods (intentionally plural). As for List of renewable resources, that is a duplicate of Renewable resource so it should be deleted. List of screenshots of missing Java Edition versions seems so ridiculous that it should just be deleted. The rest can be changed to what you said.Humiebeetalk contribs 01:39, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
So basically, I agree with converting the texture lists to categories but the other lists should be moved or deleted. Humiebeetalk contribs 01:45, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
Here are my thoughts:
Any list that doesn't impart useful information beyond a category listing should be deleted, and the listed articles be added to an appropriate category if not already.
I  Oppose a new name space for lists, or a separate wiki. List articles can coexist nicely with other main space articles if properly managed. List articles are way more numerous on the English Wikipedia and they don't need a separate name space.
Any orphan list article for which one user is the primary contributor, move it to a user sub-page, especially if a category would already serve the same function as the list.
An ideal list article would provide useful information beyond just a graphic image for topics that have something in common. The Tree article, for example, could have easily been called List of trees. Same for the Farm article I just created recently. Amatulic (talk) 02:20, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of R

Much of the CSS is broken right now, schematics is just one of many. It will probably resolve itself when Fandom fixes the CSS issue. KnightMiner (t/c) 04:23, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
Well it's been like this for a day now and no fixes from Fandom. Who knows how long it will take for it to be resolved. James Haydon (talk) 14:37, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

Display weirdness

What

In mobile while registered, this look's weird. 105.187.25.214 15:48, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

I see something similar in Firefox on a Mac. All the infoboxes are unformatted. Amatulic (talk) 16:07, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
It looks like you're using FandomDesktop on Mobile. maybe use FandomMobile instead. James Haydon (talk) 16:14, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

mobileve bug

(Unrelated) When I use mobileve, it did not respond. 202.137.119.4 00:11, 11 June 2021 (UTC) (I can't edit with my TheGreatFall account because of mobileve)
It's really a vital bug. If you choose the 'mobileve' skin in your Preferences page, you will no longer be able to visit the Minecraft wiki - all pages show 500 errors. Unless you clear your browser's cookies to log out.
A temporary solution is adding ?mobileaction=toggle_view_mobile to the URL, such as https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Minecraft_Wiki?mobileaction=toggle_view_mobile, then going to Special:Preferences to change your skin back.--145.239.77.243 01:08, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

Text unreadable on FandomDesktop (dark mode)

FandomDesktop text

Not very readable...

As you can see in the image, it seems as though some navigation and infobox text is grey on a white background. I assume this can be fixed by editing the theme settings for dark mode? Thanks :) Le Rekkso Gamer 09:36, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

This requires a lot of sitewide CSS work given how so many color styles on MCW are inline. These particular styles are fixed; I'll keep on fixing other things that are broken. --AttemptToCallNil (talk) 11:53, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
