Strider Jockey

There should be a strider jockey page in this wiki. Also, if you add it, put it in the "Compound" section in Entities.–Preceding unsigned comment was added by 108.195.126.69 (talk) at 30 June 2020 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Thanks for letting us know; for now I've created strider jockey as a redirect to the Strider page, so anyone searching for the former will automatically be taken to the latter. I don't think there's enough information about the strider jockey in particular that can't be said on the Strider page to warrant a separate article, but then again looking at other pages like Spider jockey this does seem to be done for other rideable mobs. If you think it should be its own page, I'd recommend starting a discussion on Talk:Strider.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 01:39, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

Nether update biomes

You really need to add the description of the Nether biomes and what they are like you can take screenshots of all the different biomes so players like myself could see what they all look like I have never seen the Nether Wastelands and the basalt deltas I don't even know what they look like. It will be really cool if you added this and Imam a big big Minecraft fan. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 151.230.141.182 (talk). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Error in Editing Nether Structures

I tried to edit the Structures page by correcting the info on the Nether Fortress and adding Nether Fossils and Bastion Remnants. When I tried to save the changes, it said I had removed a "significant portion" of the page and as a "new" user, it didn't allow me to save the edit. First of all, I did NOT try to remove a large part of the page. All I tried to do was remove a couple incorrect words from the Nether Structures table and add a couple of structures. Second of all, I am not a new user. My account has existed for months, maybe even years, and if I remember correctly, I have made several edits in the past. Please fix this error! Adding talk page for beta 1.3_01 due to discovery

The beta 1.3_01 version page lacks a link to the server.

It is not official, but I found a list of server links including beta 1.3_01's server, and attempted to create the following comment for somebody seeing the talk page to examine further:

```
I spotted a version 1.3_01 server version (and tested it) at this link: https://sites.google.com/site/mikkelssversionproject/home/server-jar-and-exe-download
There are a several other server versions on this page which I have not tested, but there may be other missing or unlisted servers to be found on this page. --Relinies15710 (talk) 22:38, 20 July 2020 (UTC) Relinies
Change Semi-protection
I want semi-protection to be changed so that users must have made 10 edits and have an account that is at least 4 days old, similar to how it is on Wikipedia. As of now, semi-protection only prevents IP users from editing, and since it is so easy to create an account, semi-protection wouldn't be that helpful if all the recent IP users created accounts. --Fadyblok240 (talk) 01:14, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
 Support All you need is an email, username, and password. By requiring a bit of experience, it would be possible to catch vandals before they edit semi-protected pages. The BlobsPaper 04:17, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
There are technical reasons behind semi-protection preventing only IP edits (something to do with the auth system), and local admins can neither do it themselves, nor, apparently, is such a change possible on Gamepedia at all. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 06:53, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
Someone removed the old .json code in a tutorial
I was browsing about behavior packs and a way to make one, then I found that the manifest.json example in https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Creating_behavior_packs was very different from the one in resource packs tutorial.
Can you rollback the changes? Btw I already found the right files in Mojang's Vanilla Behavior Pack example, so I can still progress through the tutorial.
Thank you.
Finally back / RE Herobrine's page
Hello current Minecraft Wiki admins. I am Kizzycocoa, a former admin for a period of 8 years, if I recall correctly. I've finally regained control of my account following several years of waiting and back-and-forth with the staff. Apologies for the stray comment on the talk page - I am not permitted to remove it it seems. It has been a fair while.
Sadly, the way it has worked out, they've essentially had to fully reset my account. I'm about to go on a soul-search to reacquire old pages from the source code. It is going to take some time I fear, to convert the old HTML to wiki markup.
I had an agreement when I left the wiki team. I would be permitted to make edits to the Herobrine page. I had quite the extensive history there. Now that I have finally regained control, can I have that privilege reaffirmed?
Thanks in advance for your reply,
--Kizzycocoa (talk|contribs) 23:52, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
Great to see you back. :)
The Herobrine page is currently only semi-protected, so you (and any registered user) should be able to edit it, but let me know if you can't (I've also removed the duplicate post on the admin noticeboard talk page, as I presume that's what you wanted).--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 23:57, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Opened it to the public? A tad risky, but I suppose by now, the meme has probably died down. Good to hear though, I suppose I only saw I couldn't edit it as I wasn't properly logged in.
Still, thanks for the reply and help! I wish there were some way that Gamepedia would recognise the true age of the account, but eh. I guess this is the best that can be done. All because Twitch screwed up my original account with an auto-deleted account that refused to merge, then GDPR wiped my page away. Bleh.
Thanks again! --Kizzycocoa (talk|contribs) 00:01, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
The protection has been at its current level for a while now and it hasn't received an excessively large amount of disruptive edits. I remember how annoying it was before, where any registered user who wanted to modify the page would have to ask an admin to perform every single edit. And do note that it does still have semi-protection, so anonymous users are still not able to edit it. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Madminecrafter12 (talkcontribs) at 02:11, 7 August 2020 (UTC). I am trying to edit https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Bedrock_Dedicated_Server and add a new paragraph under the section "Connection" to explain how it's possible to connect to a BDS on Minecraft for Windows 10 on a local machine but I get the following as the error message: "Global AF - New user posting suspicious links". Everything after this sentence is exactly what I wanted to post to the page (I had to separate the offending URL with spaces and replace the "."s with DOT but if you go into the editor you can remove the spaces and replace the dots to see what I was trying to reference):
By default Minecraft for Windows 10 does not support connections to a server hosted on the same machine (where you connect via 127.0.0.1/localhost). To fix this you must launch Windows PowerShell as an administrator and run the following[1]:
I think maybe we should keep it as it would be a nice relic of an older time. James Haydon (talk) 18:30, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
I don't see a point. Especially since inactive subreddits can be claimed by a new admin staff, so inactive means its a bit of a risk. KnightMiner · (t) 01:19, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
So someone else or some people could claim that entire subreddit because it was inactive??? James Haydon (talk) 03:12, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Sprites can't be updated
Currently, the sprite editor is broken, so I tried to added Broken Anvil manually to {{BlockSprite}} and {{InvSprite}} by editing the module and image, but it didn't work. Sprites from {{InvSprite}} link to minecraft.gamepedia.com/media/4/44/InvSprite.png/revision/latest?cb=20200823200309?cb=20200823200309, which doesn't go to revision 20200823200309, but instead the "latest" revision, which actually uses revision 20200822212120 (static.wikia.nocookie.net/minecraft_gamepedia/images/4/44/InvSprite.png/revision/latest) This means that Broken Anvil for {{InvSprite}} still shows which is replaced with the actual Broken Anvil in the latest revision of InvSprite.png. I'm not sure if that is the problem, but that's what I think might be it. --Unavailablehoax (talk) 08:53, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
I also confirmed that. I thought the reverse proxy server cache was lagging, but it's not going to go away after quite some time. Pneuma01 (talk) 10:07, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
The one reason is that Template:FileUrl, which is used in Module:Sprite, should be updated. revision/latest?cb=.... (which was't returned by {{filepath:...}} before migration, at least I think so) need to be cut off. Then minecraft.gamepedia.com/media/4/44/InvSprite.png?version=... works well.--Chixvv (talk) 12:06, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
It wasn't returned, but it seems versions need to be exact now. Just any version will not work. minecraft.gamepedia.com/media/4/44/InvSprite.png?version=actual_version_but_with_any_changes will show a blank image.
Can we check that all versions used in sprites are valid? --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 12:19, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Also, the caching issue may be fixable. I'm not sure we should hurry to update a key template in a manner that might break everything and end up useless. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 12:24, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
I don't know why you said the version used in sprites might be invalid. It doesn't need to be completely exact. For InvSprite.png, 20200823200309, 99999999999999, 1598212989555, 1598212999999, etc. work the same now. Template:FileUrl should be update anyway because it can't work properly now, which has nothing to do with caching issue, and simply cutting off revision/latest?cb=.... will not break any existing content.--Chixvv (talk) 13:19, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Oh, it works? Probably just took too long for me to load at first. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 13:22, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Do you have some way to also retain support for downscaling images used as URLs? The format of them is /revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/%d?cb=..., where %d is the width in pixels. I couldn't find a way to get a background image both use a scaled-down variant and the version string. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 13:36, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
I edited it, and it seems to work--Chixvv (talk) 14:25, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Now it stopped working if a query is specified. I added a test case to the docs. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 14:28, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Gotta say i like that banner pattern . James Haydon (talk) 15:12, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Now I have no idea. I think we have no way to make it with minecraft.gamepedia.com/media/. How about discarding the parameter of size? Through searching, I found that no page uses this parameter. And if you like, we can also make FileUrl2 a separate template that uses static.wikia.nocookie.net/minecraft_gamepedia/images/ to support for downscaling images.--Chixvv (talk) 15:17, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, I fixed it, the error was in my testing code and not the template itself. I passed the query as the second (size) parameter. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 17:18, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
InvSprites should be fixed. Modules should return back to using version for images. Enjoy your broken anvils. (: --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 17:21, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
Protect Piglin
Now the main reason would be the change from hostile to neutral and back and forth.---Humiebee Discuss anything with me Look at my edits 19:29, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Hostile
They are hostile because that is their default nature. Baby piglins spawn much less frequently than normal piglins and piglins are neutral if the player is wearing gold armor a very specific term, if we called piglins neutral, why is the drowned called hostile? they are passive during the day, that is why that terminalogy is incorrect, most of the edits that change hostile to neutral are from ip-adrresses so it would be nice to protect it with semi protection.
Suggesting that the categories of "hostile", "neutral", and "friendly" mobs are disbanded due to definition ambiguities with whether a mob is neutral or not. I believe the categories are always replaceable, including by more detailed introduction sections. --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 20:00, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
citricsquid founded the Minecraft Wiki (English, German and Dutch). While the English and German wikis demoted him some time ago, the Dutch wiki did not. I would leave the decision to the local administration of the Dutch wiki though. MarkusRost (talk) 13:56, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
Being one of the two admins there, I'd say go and demote him, being the founder is no reason for excluding them from the permission loss from inactivity rule. You should make Dark a beaurocrat then. Dhranios (talk) 14:01, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
I support demoting citricsquid per reason given by Dhranios. I wouldn't be opposed to gaining the bureaucrat role, but I do have to note that I am fairly inactive due to a general change of focus mostly away from Minecraft and towards Yellowstone (which may have been induced by Fandom acquiring Gamepedia). Occasionally I do get the itch to do something (such as fighting Lua again in drafts :P) and I keep an eye on the recent changes regularly. DarkShadowTNT (talk) 15:42, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
I mean, Dinoguy1000 and Majr were both beraucrats but we were able to get rid of their rights, so it makes sense that we should do the same to Citricsquid. James Haydon (talk) 16:07, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
We got rid of their rights on MCW-EN; just because we do something doesn't necessarily mean all the other Minecraft Wikis need to. Living on the California coast, any "winter" theme logo looks weird. And it would also for the entire population south of the equator. ~ Amatulic (talk) 21:01, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
While it may not be enabled globally for everyone on the wiki, users may still wish to enable such a theme themselves.
Is there any other textures outdated? Such as the dirt/grass blocks on the background and tabs? Dhranios (talk) 14:45, 12 October 2020 (UTC)
Thee grass texture is overly outdated, switching to the newest grass texture makes the header look a bit weird though. As for the Minecraft Chinese Wiki background, I personally think it's slightly too bright. – ItsPlantseed|⟩ 12:02, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
The grass texture could be tinted to look as bright green. The grass header was actually made in 2012, after grass was made less green since 2010. – Unavailablehoax (talk) 14:23, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
Changes to "Useful pages" list in wiki sidebar
I have two changes proposed to the "Useful pages" list in the sidebar of the wiki to the left, if it is possible to implement.
  1. Change the link texts of "Resource pack" and "Redstone circuit" to plural form, for consistency to the other links in the list and the links from "Popular and useful pages" on the main page.
  2. Exchange some links from the sidebar "Useful pages" and the main page "Popular and useful pages" that one or the other does not already have. I'm not gonna specify any links myself because I haven't thought it through, but you can discuss it if needed.
In my opinion, suggestion 1 should be implemented regardless. 82.102.22.7 02:05, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
 Done suggestion 1, as it seems pretty straightforward and non-controversial. Doing the later sounds like a good idea to me, but I'd be interested to see what other people think and what exact links should be added and removed to/from both of the lists. --Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 15:46, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
Semi protect Splash
A week ago User:Nixinova protected Splash for a week, but the disruption resumed after the protection lifted, and one anon is currently edit-warring about it. There is talk page discussion about this too, with the anon basically stating an intent to continue disruption. I recommend semi-protection at least until the US federal election is over on 3 November. ~ Amatulic (talk) 23:48, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
Seems like semi protection would have been sufficient to prevent anonymous IP addresses and brand-new accounts from editing. Does semi work differently here compared to Wikipedia? ~ Amatulic (talk) 06:05, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
Semi = registered on Gamepedia, annoyingly.  Nixinova T  C   06:11, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
Huh. Isn't there a means of protection here that imposes an age and activity threshold? On the English Wikipedia where I'm an admin, "semi" protects against registered accounts that are less than 5 days old OR have less than 10 edits. We also have "extended confirmed", which protects against registered accounts less than 30 days old OR have less than 500 edits. And of course full protection. Oh, and there's another one called "pending changes protection" that I rarely use because I regard it as useless; it's weaker than semi, letting anybody edit but not making that edit visible publicly until a user with the "reviewer" right approves the change (as far as I've seen, this protection level just creates more work for others). ~ Amatulic (talk) 06:30, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
Here on Gamepedia users become autoconfirmed upon registering, so semi-protection allows all accounts to edit. If I recall correctly, you can't directly add a protection level that restricts editing to a custom user group; that is, we would not be able to have autopatrol protection or patroller protection. A possible but not very practical solution would be to use abuse filters. --Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 15:41, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
A lot of the edits are not necessarily vandalism but rather editorializing and other forms of disruptive edits. There also seem to have been several constructive IP edits in the last month, and the most recent case of vandalism was actually from a registered user, which semi-protection would not be effective against. I'll wait a week or so and if there's a significant amount of disruptive editing by unregistered users in that time I'll protect for a month or so, otherwise leave it alone.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 16:09, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
Looking at the new history of the Wolf page, it seems that 90-100% of the recent IP edits were disruptive/vandalism, and/or unconstructive. I see no reason to blank someone's userpage unless for some reason the contents of their userpage are disrupting the wiki. So basically, unless they are linking a ton of broken files/templates, there is no reason to blank anyone's userpages (and even then, I would hesitate to do it)
In any case, there is no policy that says userpages of inactive users must be blanked. If you want one, go propose it on the community portal. I don't support such a policy though. KnightMiner (t/c) 04:02, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
  2. Protect Java Edition 1.16.4.
    1. Ever since it's page creation, it's been flooded with vandalism.
  3. Protect Java Edition 1.17
The first page seems to have really died down with the vandalism, so not worth protecting at this point. The second one has a bunch of constructive IP edits and a lot of the recent vandalism is from two specific IPs who were blocked for their actions. I'll keep an eye on it, however; if it gets worse it should probably be protected for a month. The 1.17 page definitely requires protection; semi-protected it for a full three months. --Madminecrafter12 (talk) 12:57, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
