Player Journal Description

The Sunset Cow is a variant of the cow covered in black and golden brown fur exclusively found in Minecraft Earth.

Appearance

Sunset cows are a rather brightly-colored variant of the cow with their whole body covered in a golden-brown coat of fur, with the exception of their face, nape, and back where they have black fur instead. Their head is rather dark in color with a long patch of golden-brown fur on their forehead, they have slightly dark-brown tips on their ears, and a white muzzle running around their nose, they also possess dark hooves.

Obtaining

Sunset cows are of an uncommon rarity and can be obtained through cow tappables with a 2.5% chance of obtaining. They can also be obtained as a prize in Season 5.

Behavior

Main article: Cow § Behavior

Similar to normal cows, sunset cows wander around, mooing and breathing occasionally. They avoid water, lava and walking off cliffs high enough to cause fall damage. They flee for a few seconds when harmed.

Drops

When killed, the sunset cow can drop:

Trivia

 • Sunset cows were previously the second rarest cow variant in Minecraft Earth with a 1.8% chance of getting it from cow tappables. It was then replaced by the cookie cow.
 • The sunset cow's chance of obtaining was changed from 2.2% to a low 1.8% making it harder to get from cow tappables.
 • The chances of obtaining the sunset cow was changed yet again when the cookie cow was added, previously 1.8% to a more common 3.9% making it rather easier to obtain, then lessened to 2.5%

Obtaining
Mob loot
Zombies
Zombies, zombie villagers, zombie horses, husks, and drowned drop from 0 to 2 units of rotten flesh. Looting can increase this by one per level, for a maximum of 5 rotten flesh.

Zoglins
Zoglins drop 1-3. Looting III grants a maximum of 6.

Zombified piglins
Zombified piglins drop 0-1. Looting III grants a maximum of 4.

Chest loot
rotten-flesh

Cat gifts
Cat#Gifts

Tamed cats have a 70% chance of giving the player a gift when they wake up from a bed, and the gift has a 16.13% chance to be a rotten flesh.

Usage
Food
Tutorials/Hunger management

To eat rotten flesh, press and hold use while rotten flesh is selected in the hotbar.

Eating rotten flesh restores 4 hunger and 0.8 hunger saturation, but has an 80% chance of inflicting for 30 seconds. Note that the duration does not accumulate when eating multiple pieces. However, if more is consumed and the Hunger status effect is inflicted, the duration resets to 30 seconds.

Wolves
Rotten flesh can be used to breed and heal tamed wolves, lead them around, and make baby tamed wolves grow up faster by 10% of the remaining time.

Wolves are immune to the Hunger effect.

Trading
Novice-level cleric villagers buy 32 rotten flesh for 1 emerald as part of their trades.
