Fight your way through an all-new action-adventure game, inspired by classic dungeon crawlers and set in the Minecraft universe! Brave the dungeons alone, or team up with friends! Up to four players can battle together through action-packed, treasure-stuffed, wildly varied levels – all in an epic quest to save the villagers and take down the evil Arch-Illager!

Discover a trove of powerful new weapons and items that will help you defeat ruthless swarms of new-and-nasty mobs. Fight or flee through canyons, swamps and – of course – mines! Any adventurer brave or foolish enough to explore this blocky and beautiful world will need to come prepared. So quickly, gear up!

Gameplay

The game supports up to four players and features various new weapons, items, and mobs, as well as a variety of environments to explore and an overarching quest that'll see players face off against a main antagonist, called the Arch-Illager.

The game has specific quests and locations, along with procedurally generated elements.[6] The player is not restricted to one class, and can pick up more armor or weapons and use them. Players will not build or mine because the game is focused on action/adventure. The game will take place both above ground and below. Players can re-play levels they have previously beaten. There is "Something similar to a hub world." Levels are procedurally generated, and Mojang is considering using World Seeds. There will also be key golems, which are new mobs that will run away from the player, and must be hit several times before they can be collected. Their use is to open doors with key holes.[7]

Players can choose their avatar from a variety of skins provided, with more to come as paid DLC. Character creator skins and skins purchased in vanilla Minecraft will not be available for use in Dungeons.

Development

The game was announced at MINECON Earth 2018.[6] It appears as a visually enhanced version of the base Minecraft game, but has a different gameplay style.[8] The game is inspired by classic dungeon crawlers.[2] On September 17, 2019, Double Eleven announced that they are assisting Mojang and Xbox Game Studios with development, particularly with multiplayer and the console versions.[9]

Minecraft Dungeons was given an April 2020 release date in November 2019[10], though this date was delayed to May 26, 2020, due to the outbreak of COVID-19.[11] The closed beta for the game ran from March 25 to April 24, 2020.[12][13] Minecraft Dungeons, in either the US$20 Base Game/Standard Edition or the US$30 Hero Edition (consisting of all DLC passes), is available to pre-order on PC and Xbox One.[11][5]
