Note:
  • Expand on Salah’s role in the prequel novel, “The Rise of The Arch-Illager.”

The mob, Salah is a villager from the novel The Rise of the Arch-Illager and a resident of the Squid Coast village. He was against the idea of allowing Archie to stay in the village with Yumi, and was responsible for Archie’s banishment from the village by getting a hero’s attention.

Appearance[]

In the novel, Salah is introduced in chapter four as wearing "a wide-brimmed hat and clothing streaked with sweat and dirt.” He is also described as "brandishing a garden hoe"

Story[]

Salah was a resident of the village that Archie took refuge in for a time. While he disagreed with Yumi about taking Archie in, he eventually relented and allowed him to stay, with Yumi mentioning Salah’s cousins to make her point. Despite disliking Archie and the illagers, it is mentioned that he eventually had conversations with Archie about the illagers as a whole, showing that he seemed to have a genuine curiosity about the philosophy of the illagers and why they raid villages. However, his curiosity didn’t stop him from taking the first opportunity he saw to get rid of Archie. He is responsible for getting Smacker’s attention and provoking a short fight between the arrogant hero and Archie, resulting in Yumi getting hurt and Archie punching the hero. Salah and the other villagers ultimately decided that Archie should be banished from the village to avoid upsetting the trade agreements they have with the heroes.

Trivia[]

  • It is mentioned in the novel that Salah has multiple cousins who occasionally visit the village. Yumi uses this information to convince the rest of the village to allow Archie to stay.
    • Presumably, Salah’s cousins are Wandering Traders because they don’t live in the village and they occasionally visit, meaning that they are not Illagers either.
