Wolves are new mobs introduced in Beta 1.4. Notch had confirmed the addition of these animals upon having breakfast with Peter Molyneux. On March 18th, 2011, a video was posted showing a preview of wolves, which were being made by Jeb. Wolves will spawn in forest and taiga biomes.

Wolves may also be considered the "pet dogs" as previously mentioned by Notch.

Wild wolves are usually neutral. As of now, they are not known to drop anything. At the moment you can also have as many wolves as you want until Mojang comes up with a way to limit the amount you can have tamed. Wolves do spawn on Multiplayer servers, and they continuously make whimpering noises even when they are at full health.

The Enderdragon is an upcoming mob that is planned to be in the 1.9 update.
Taming
  +
It exists only in its native dimension, The End.
They are said to be rather rare, but they will not despawn once tamed. To tame a wolf, you have to give it bones until a puff of heart particles appears and it gains a red collar, which indicates that the wolf has been tamed. The number of bones required is random. You can tame more than one wolf.

  +
This mob will use the Dragon model Notch created, but it will be black and scaly with purple eyes compared to a normal dragon. Like other dragons, the Enderdragon will have 6 limbs; consisting of 2 wings, 2 legs and 2 arms.
Once given enough bones, they will become friendly. They will now protect you, follow you around, and will attack mobs that you have attacked in melee. Tamed wolves will not attack mobs that you hit with arrows, nor will they attack creepers. Wolves will also not attack mobs if they are sitting. A wolf's tail will rise and lower depending on its health, and it can be restored with raw pork (which can also be used for luring them) and other foods. They are able to climb ladders, but will teleport to you if you create a large distance between yourself and them as long as they are not sitting or trapped in a minecart.

Jeb has made it clear that Notch plans to make the Enderdragon very difficult to fight without "enhancements." Enderdragons will also not be feasibly killed without a bow and arrow. They will boast armoured bodies, to which weapons bounce off of. To kill them, you will have to hit them square in the head or in the soft underbelly. They will drop massive amounts of experience.
Behavior
  +
The Enderdragon can destroy every block (even bedrock) except End Stone and Obsidian, which they pass through harmlessly.
Wild/Untamed
  +
Nothing else is known about it at this time, other than the fact that it is one of the few creatures that inhabit The End. Notch has stated that Enderdragon Eggs may be a possibility, and he has been working on them since the feature freeze. Enderdragons will also have unique death animations.
Wolves spawn in neutral (untamed) packs of 1-7, Wild wolves will randomly attack sheep, but will not attack the player. Wolves can swim, and will shake water droplets off of their bodies when exiting water. They cannot dive underwater, however.

  +
As of 1.9 pre-release 5, Enderdragons can be killed only by attacking their head repeatedly with a melee weapon or arrows. Defeating the Enderdragon will reward the player with many experience orbs and a single block of obsidian. It's likely that the obsidian block is only a placeholder for a later reward item. Because Enderdragons still don't seem to spawn in The End they require to be spawned through a modified mob spawner.
Hostile
Wolves will become hostile towards the player if attacked. A hostile wolf has red eyes, while a neutral wolf has eyes consisting of one black pixel and one white pixel. Hostile wolves will attack the player as a pack. On multiplayer if somebody attacks a wolf that wolf will be hostile to all players.

Note: Once you turn a wild wolf hostile, they can't be tamed.

History
Originally Dragons were a possible planned mob hinted at by Notch during the Spider Jockey update. He also mentioned that dragon lairs may be an addition. They remained a potential work-in-progress until the Enderdragon was announced.
When tamed, the wolf's eyes will change to two white pixels and one black pixel, making it look less aggressive. A tame wolf will not attack the player, even if the player attacks it, although a rare glitch can occur if you save while the dog is in sitting position, then come back and hit it. They will then jump toward you in the sitting animation and attack you. Any other wolves who were told to sit before saving will also not be able to stand up again. Tame wolves are desirable because they will join into melee combat against the player's current target, with a few exceptions. Wolves will not attack what you attack if they are already attacking something, and they will never attack creepers. They will also not attack if they are sitting.

  +
Notch has, in the past, stated that if Dragons are added, they will not be able to be mounted because it would put pressure on servers in SMP.
Wolves do spawn in "Peaceful" Mode and will still attack if provoked. When changing the difficulty to "Peaceful," tamed wolves are not removed from the game.

  +
In September 2011 Notch stated that "dragons will be added eventually".
When you hit yourself with an arrow, a tame wolf will attack you. Tame wolves that are attacking you can still pounce while they are sitting.

  +
On October 7th 2011 Notch revealed the existence of the Enderdragon.
Health
  +
On October 10th 2011 Notch released a video showing a small clip of The End which also shows the Enderdragon fly into the top of the frame.
A wolf's health status may be determined by checking its tail; a tail in the air indicates high or full health while a tail pointing towards the ground means lower health. Tame wolves turn their head to the side and beg if the player is holding a raw pork or a bone. Tamed wolves will whimper if they are low on health. Feeding a wolf pork (both cooked and raw pork) will increase its health, but feeding it bread will cause damage.

  +
On October 11th 2011 A player named stropping_notch asked Jeb if Dragon riding is an idea, to which he replied it is. It is not clear whether this means it is an idea under consideration or not, however, or whether it would apply to the red Dragons or the Enderdragon.
Movement
  +
On October 12th 2011, in a Reddit post Notch also said, "They will be different dragons. The Enderdragon will probably become larger, and the ones in the main world will be this size, won't go through terrain, and will be red because dragons are red."
Tame wolves will follow you but also wander around. They will take an available path to the player, not just walk directly towards like hostile mobs do. They will not walk through open doors, but they will walk through 1×1 holes. Wolves will attempt to walk through obstacles in order to attack, but will not path around them.

  +
On October 12th 2011, in a twitter post Notch also said: "Dragons have 6 limbs" Which would consist of 2 wings, 2 legs and 2 arms.
Wolves will teleport to you if they get too far behind (which happens often). It is possible for tame wolves to teleport to an inaccessible location (such as under ice) and may die as a result. A Wolf in a minecart will have trouble teleporting to you, and a wolf will not teleport to you if you are swimming in water that is deeper than 1 block.

Wolves will not avoid walking into lava, cacti, or fire, and so may die even if they're following a player taking a safe route.
+
On October 13th 2011, 1.9 Pre-release 4 was released along with The End. The Enderdragon exists in the code, mostly functional, however the dragon had not been enabled ingame yet. A community-made mod allows players to spawn Enderdragons by parrying with a golden sword.

  +
On October 27th 2011, 1.9 Pre-release 5 was released and Enderdragons could finally be hurt. They still do not seem to appear naturally in The End and need mods or a mob-spawner to be brought into the game. However, when slain, it has a very distinct death animation: it will rise upwards, emit purple beams of light from its body while the body itself disappears pixel by pixel, until it's all gone, and the lights fade away.
When you right-click on a wolf they will sit and stay in that spot. A wolf will stand up if it is in water or when it is hurt (including by being on fire, so it is difficult to keep a wolf on fire from wandering back into the fire).

Wolves cannot travel to the Nether; if the player does, the wolves will remain in the first world until the player returns.

This article describes content that may be included in a future update.
This content has appeared in development versions, but the full update containing it has not been released yet.

The Enderdragon is an upcoming mob that is planned to be in the 1.9 update. It exists only in its native dimension, The End.[1][2][3]

This mob will use the Dragon model Notch created, but it will be black and scaly with purple eyes compared to a normal dragon.[4] Like other dragons, the Enderdragon will have 6 limbs; consisting of 2 wings, 2 legs and 2 arms.[5]

The Enderdragon can destroy every block (even bedrock) except End Stone and Obsidian, which they pass through harmlessly. Nothing else is known about it at this time, other than the fact that it is one of the few creatures that inhabit The End. Notch has stated that Enderdragon Eggs may be a possibility, and he has been working on them since the feature freeze. [6][7] Enderdragons will also have unique death animations. [8]

History

Originally Dragons were a possible planned mob hinted at by Notch during the Spider Jockey update.[9] He also mentioned that dragon lairs may be an addition.[10] They remained a potential work-in-progress until the Enderdragon was announced.

Notch has, in the past, stated that if Dragons are added, they will not be able to be mounted because it would put pressure on servers in SMP.[11]

In September 2011 Notch stated that "dragons will be added eventually".[12]

On October 7th 2011 Notch revealed the existence of the Enderdragon.

On October 10th 2011 Notch released a video showing a small clip of The End which also shows the Enderdragon fly into the top of the frame. [1] [2]

On October 11th 2011 A player named stropping_notch asked Jeb if Dragon riding is an idea, to which he replied it is. It is not clear whether this means it is an idea under consideration or not, however, or whether it would apply to the red Dragons or the Enderdragon.[13]

On October 12th 2011, in a Reddit post Notch also said, "They will be different dragons. The Enderdragon will probably become larger, and the ones in the main world will be this size, won't go through terrain, and will be red because dragons are red."[14]

On October 12th 2011, in a twitter post Notch also said: "Dragons have 6 limbs"[5] Which would consist of 2 wings, 2 legs and 2 arms.

On October 13th 2011, 1.9 Pre-release 4 was released along with The End. The Enderdragon exists in the code, mostly functional, however the dragon had not been enabled ingame yet. A community-made mod allows players to spawn Enderdragons by parrying with a golden sword.[15]
