This page is about the block type. For the structure, see Tree (structure)
Log is a type of block first seen in Minecraft Creative mode 0.0.14a. They have a skin resembling bark on the four side faces, and a crosscut face on top and bottom. Logs are greatly abundant in naturally generated maps, as they are used as the foundation of Trees and currently the branches of trees in Alpha mode. Wood can be mined relatively quickly by hand, but using an Axe is faster. Logs are flammable, but sometimes don't burn away when lit.
Log blocks are available for use in Creative mode. They are often used to make plants, trees and wooden cabins.
In Survival mode, log blocks drop 3 - 5 Plank blocks when mined. In Indev, Infdev, and Alpha, mining a log block will cause just 1 to drop instead. This allows the use of logs as a building material. The log's only crafting use is to be made into four Plank blocks.

Trivia
- The number of rings on the inside of a tree counts the age of the tree. If one counts the rings of a log, the sum is two years.
- For a log to be destroyed by fire it must have several sides simultaneously burning. If only one side is burning, the fire and log will last forever. This is probably a bug but makes for nice fireplaces.
