The Lily Pad is a block in the 1.9 pre-release, found growing in water inside swamp biomes. Apart from this, little is known.
Breaking the lily pad will place it in your inventory. It can be replaced, but only on top of swamp water, and only by placing it against a block that is above, and adjacent to, the water surface.
Their purpose is purely aesthetic. They can be passed through or broken, but are not craftable. NOTE: Cutting the block with shears will not do anything.
