Light gray dye is a tertiary color made by combining bone meal and gray dye in a crafting square or alternatively, two units of bone meal and an ink sac.

Both of these recipes require 12 units of primary dye to produce 12 units of tertiary dye. The first recipe uses 4 ink sacs and 8 bone meal. The second recipe uses 3 ink sacs and 9 bone meal. Therefore, the second recipe is generally more cost-effective, unless you value bone meal for its alternative use as a fertilizer.
