This article is about the Lapis Lazuli ore. For the block, see Lapis Lazuli (Block). For the dye, see Lapis Lazuli (Dye).

Occurance

Lapis Lazuli ore is a block that can be mined underground with a stone or better pickaxe. It is usually found at a depth of 32 and below, similar to Gold. The highest concentration of Lapis Lazuli Ore is found at level 19. At this level the concentration is about 0.05%. The concentration drops linearly from this level to 0% at level 0 and level 35. Overall, Lapis Lazuli is around 1.5 times more common than Diamond ore, but is only found in the same concentration at level 20. [citation needed]

  • As of Beta version 1.2_02 Lapis Lazuli ore can be found at bedrock level.

Usage

Lapis Lazuli ore is blue in colour and when mined, it drops 4-9 blue dye that can be used to create blue wool or be crafted into a Lapis Lazuli block. When combined with bone meal it creates light blue dye, and when combined with Rose Red it creates purple dye.

Rarity

Speculation suggests that it is as rare, or possibly rarer than Diamond (Jens Bergensten has acknowledged that the ore is too rare, and stated that it will be changed to provide more dye, probably by making the ore drop more pieces, like Redstone [1]). The most efficient way to find this ore is to explore caves in the depths it spawns in, seeing as it is spread out more than diamond with the same rarity.

  • As of Beta version 1.2_02 you get 4-9 Lapis Lazuli per ore, (current yield average: ~6 per ore)
