This article is about publicly-released development versions for the PC. For the official versions' history, see Version history.
Starting in the period between Beta 1.7.3 and Beta 1.8, Mojang publicly releases testing versions of the full update in order to get major feedback, especially for bug reporting, so that the official update is considerably more stable. While these versions were public, they were not auto-installed by the game and are completely optional.
In Beta, these versions went under the tag of "Pre-Release", candidates subject to release for 1.0.0 as "RC#", and post-1.0.0 were given a name under a special syntax (see below).
YY is the two-digit year, WW is the two-digit week number within the year, and x is a unique identifier, starting with "a", in case there is more than one release per week.
Shift-Clicking gives half the amount of items that you would get from repetitive left/right clicking when crafting, and can also consume additional items (eg 11 stick and 12 coal, shift-clicking the torches consumes the extra coal)
When right-clicking a sitting cat with your bare hands, the game crashed (in 12w05a only).
Cats are sometimes unable to be breed with fish thus only able to consume them.
An unruly user that wrote the Afrikaans language translation put offensive text on the singleplayer button.
Another unruly user created a bogus language called [Ingles (Uruguay)] that contains the text "Otra razon para odiarte...", which translates to "Another reason to hate you..."
The left side of a Ghast and Creeper's head will change to white when taking damage.
The left side of a Creeper's head does not have light effects applied to it. (Noticeable under light level 7.)
Zombies and skeletons don't know the difference between water and lava when attempting to avoid sunlight. This is probably due to them only attempting to go to areas with low skylight levels, of which both water and lava have.
A fire charge that is shot from a dispenser into water will not go out, making fire be possible underwater.
Even when it's raining, zombies and skeletons will still occasionally attempt to avoid sunlight.
Fixed a bug that caused all tools to break quickly after loading an old map in Minecraft 1.0.0RC1
Notable Bugs: (Complete bug list)
Taking fall damage as the player causes both the normal damage and fall damage sounds to play, though they sound very similar and are difficult to differentiate.
Considered the "Lost Update",[13] a full version under the name "Beta 1.9" never came. Instead, Mojang opted to delay the release of this update until MineCon 2011 and release it under the name "Minecraft 1.0.0". This decision was made after a few development versions tagged as Beta 1.9 were already sent out, so the name Beta 1.9 was kept for all of the development versions in the gap between Beta 1.8.1 and Minecraft 1.0.0, other than the Release Candidates.
