Plugin API Update[2]
  • Initial versions of the Plugin API will be released in a couple of months. The release was originally planned for 1.3, then for 1.4, and then it was accidentally stated by Curse that it would be implemented in 1.5, but has since been delayed.[3][4]
  • It aims to make mods (to be known as plugins) easier to install and less prone to destroy your game.
  • The Minecraft website will be revamped, helping to bring the most interesting community plugins and custom maps to the surface.
  • It will be easier to add and animate models.
  • Changing the way the game stores data regarding its many materials and items
  • Support for in-game persistent servers.
    • So we’ll integrate our own server provider in the game. Our hosting service will probably be too simple for the hardcore who buy servers now; we’ll aim for servers with eight-to-ten people max. --Jeb
  • An in-game tutorial similar to the Xbox one.[citation needed]

Account System Update[5]
  • Not a game update (will not modify the game itself and will be applied regardless of the version you're playing).
  • The possibility to change your username and the e-mail address that is associated with your account will be added.
    • Global Mojang accounts are already available and can be merged with Minecraft, Scrolls and Cobalt accounts.
      • Once the synchronization has been made, logging into Mojang games is made by using your e-mail address instead of your username.
      • Possible implementation of the long-awaited online synchronization of achievements and statistics.[6][7]
    • In-game usernames will be changeable, but all usernames on Minecraft accounts have to be unique (doesn't matter if it's a legacy Minecraft account or a Mojang Account).
    • It is unknown how the username change feature will be adapted to server whitelists and blacklists.

Other planned features, items, and blocks

Feature Description
Focused updates Upcoming updates will mostly be more focused on a specific topic (e.g. biome updates).[8]
Virtual reality compatibility Notch stated that he might make Minecraft compatible with Oculus Rift.[9]
Audio loops Audio loops have not yet been added to the game, but may be implemented to play when the player is in a specific location (In caves, forests, oceans, and beside a waterfall). This has been partially added in 1.4 with the addition of lava and water ambient sounds.
Server portals Mojang has marked a player's suggestion of server portals on Get Satisfaction as planned.[10]
Friends list, limited maps, video support The Minecraft documentary team of 2 Player Productions filmed a Keynote roadmap, also containing these lines.[11]
Rainbow crystalline caves A player's suggestion of rainbow crystalline caves on Get Satisfaction had been marked by Mojang as a planned feature.[12]
Rewriting the skin system Dinnerbone displayed interest towards looking into switching the skin system to edit right and left player limbs separately, once they're done rewriting the "rendering stuffs".[13]
Dual-wielding Jeb stated that Notch is working on dual-wielding of items.[14]
Zipline Mod Notch had stated that he is interested in working with the zipline mod creator to implement parts of the mod into vanilla Minecraft following Minecon.[15] As of 1.3, Dinnerbone has added placeable string, one of the components present in this mod.[16] This, however, ended up being a new redstone component, tripwire.
Red Dragon Notch revealed during the 8th Seecret Friday Update that he would add dragons, one being the Ender Dragon, the other being red tameable dragons.[17] Jeb informed players on his AMA on Reddit that he would add red dragons, but was unsure exactly how.[18]
More animals Jon Kagstrom commented on Reddit that he would like to add more animals, such as fish, birds, and tree animals, to make the game seem more alive.[19]
Spikes or spike blocks Jeb hinted a possibility of implementing spikes that would work like pistons but push out Spikes. He later considered making a Spike Block that could be pushed by Sticky Pistons instead.[20][21] Dinnerbone showed interest in adding spike blocks after adding tripwire.[22]
Custom paintings Notch has said that custom paintings may appear in a future update.[23]
New fishing content Dinnerbone has stated on Twitter that he has plans for new fishing content, stating that fishing isn't fun at the moment.[24]
