An example Infdev map, note the large map size
This page relates to a removed gametype of Minecraft.
Infdev (or Infinite Development) is the fourth released game mode and is a single player survival mode test. Infdev succeeded Indev when a plan for infinite maps was set in place by Notch. Infdev's main new feature was the addition of infinite maps, hence the "inf" in the name. Infdev has been replaced by Alpha mode and no longer recieves updates. During the September 2010 crash the Infdev link seemed to be removed. Infdev works by generating an area of land for the player when they first spawn, then continues to generate more land as the player ventures into unexplored areas. The maps generated by infdev can theoretically be up to eight times larger than the surface of the Earth (though much smaller volume-wise since maps are only about 64 meters deep).
Features
- Infinite map generation
- Craftable doors, signs, ladders, Minecarts, track and more
- 3D clouds
- Much more complex cave systems
- Dynamic fluid system
Alpha replacing Infdev
Infdev was replaced by Alpha, infdev no longer gets updated and its link has been removed from the Minecraft website. As of September 2010, Notch has removed the Indev and Infdev versions.
