Infdev was the fourth released game mode, like its predecessor Indev, it was a survival mode test. Infdev's main new feature was the addition of infinite maps, hence the "inf" in the name. Infdev has now been succeeded by Alpha and is no longer being developed.
Infdev works by generating an area of land for the player when they first spawn, then continues to generate more land as the player ventures into unexplored areas. The maps generated by infdev can theoretically be up to eight times larger than the surface of the Earth (though much smaller volume-wise since maps are only about 64 meters deep).
