Combat Test 8b is the eighth experimental version of a future combat revision.[1] Although it is a development version for a future release, this combat experiment is a fork of 1.16.2. This version was released only on Reddit, so it does not appear in the launcher or in any Minecraft.net blog post.
Combat Test 8 (or 8a) was privately released earlier for user testing.
Changes
Items
- Instantaneous effects on tipped arrows are now scaled by 1⁄8, just like the duration of other effects.

- Instant Health potions now heal 3x2level (was 2x2level).
- Potions can now be drunk faster (20 ticks, was 32 ticks).
Gameplay
- Returned eating interruption for getting hit (by players or mobs), also applies to drinking.
- Liquid food (stews, honey, milk) can now be consumed faster (20 ticks, was 32 or 40 ticks).
- Weapon enchantments are now included in the base damage when calculating crits and potion effects.
- Cleaving now adds +2/+3/+4 points of damage (was +1/+2/+3).
Fixes
- From the previous development versions
- Fixed shield protection arcs.
- Improved server-side attack range calculations.

Trivia
- Combat Test 8b has the same protocol version as Combat Test 8c, which means these versions are cross-compatible with each other.
- This is a rare time 2 development versions have had the same protocol version excluding joke versions. The last one was on September 15, 2017, with 1.12.2-pre1 and 1.12.2-pre2.
- Combat Test 8b has the same data version as 21w14a even though these versions should not be compatible with each other.
- This means that they are compatible on singleplayer but not multiplayer.
