Explosion update (20 October 2009)[]

While there is proof of this version's existence, it was never released to the public.

- Creeper explosions no longer destroy stone or stone-like blocks.
- Explosions leave black smoldering particle effects over the effected area.
- Optimized resource usage by making far away entities invisible, the distance they are visible in depends on entity size.
- Removed gradient from GUI's.
Dirt slab test (22 October 2009)[]
This section documents an unreleased version.
While there is proof of this version's existence, it was never released to the public.
- Half-sized dirt block test.
- Dirt slabs replaced dirt upon generation.
- Slabs caused the tile they are in to be darkened.
- Cannot be climbed or made into double slabs yet.
- You cannot break blocks behind the slabs, as their hitbox is that of a full block.
- Rain
- Dynamic and bounces around.
- Created by pressing F5.[verify]

- Thinner rain.
- Ceilings prevents rain from falling through.

Slab progress (23 October 2009)[]
This section documents an unreleased version.
While there is proof of this version's existence, it was never released to the public.
- Half block nearly finished.
- Dirt is no longer converted to dirt slabs on worldgen.[1]
- The player can now properly climb up slabs.
- No longer cause adjacent blocks to be darkened.
- The top layer of water is now fully bright.
Spider test (23 October 2009)[]

While there is proof of this version's existence, it was never released to the public.
- Spider test (originally were passive, as seen in the picture by Notch, but were later given a new AI).
- Mushrooms only spawn underground.
- Slabs have a new hitbox, allowing blocks behind them to be broken.[verify]
New blocks (23 October 2009)[]
This section documents an unreleased version.
While there is proof of this version's existence, it was never released to the public.
- Mossy cobblestone, TNT, block of iron, bookshelf, and bricks.
- New gold block, gold ore texture.
- Creative inventory may have been temporarily enabled in order to obtain exact numbers of the new blocks (notice the random nature of the blocks placed versus the empty hotbar).
